There are only two NHL teams that are affected by a rename and that's Phoenix and Atlanta. You can rename them, but then you have to add two new teams to the database called the Phoenix Coyotes and the Atlanta Thrashers. I've done it many times moving both Phoenix and Atlanta to Winnipeg and Quebec respectively with no problems as long as I create/add both teams to the database.robotco wrote:just for anyone who's having the same issue, you can just click 'add new' and put in the original nhl team that you renamed. this solves the issue of the game not being able to read the index.robotco wrote:the only problem i'm getting from this now is that if i rename a team with one of the nhl ones that i abandoned, when i start the game, it says it can't find the OTHER team's index now, but everything still loads and i haven't had a crash. so do you guys know if it's safe? or are there particular teams i can manhandle in the editor without having to see that error message when i load a new game?robotco wrote: i'm having this same issue. so if i rename a defunct team, the problem is solved... why will this cause problems later?

this is confusing for other people. to be clear, yes, you can rename nhl teams. but, the index has to still be able to see that they exist when loading a new game. so, let's take atlanta thrashers. rename them, and confirm. then go to the 'not assigned' team list and click 'add new'. then in the new field, put atlanta thrashers. you have a renamed nhl team, and the game loads with no problem.Primis wrote:You can't rename the NHL teams. You *have* to move them somewhere so they're still in the game, and then bring another team of your choice in. If the game doesn't detect all of the team names with the ™ symbol at the end of the name (as well as many of the ECHL and AHL teams I know for a fact) it will crash.robotco wrote:thanks mcqwak, but i'm not fiddling with the league structure, just renaming some teams. don't matter to me if lecavalier is playing for halifax!
Just move the team you want to move to another lower league, move the new team in to the NHL, swap the staff, and go at it that way.
Renaming the primary teams in the game will always result in a crash, there is no workaround.

I feel dumb. I have used the editor before with success but now whatever edits I make are not showing up in the game. I can load the database back up through the editor and all of my edits are there even after I close the editor and reopen it. I know I must be doing a simple thing wrong.
I have changed the data folder under the games preference menu to match where I installed the the game but that still does not work. This problem is very frustrating](./images/smilies/wallbash.gif)

I've added this to our SkyDrive account, assuming MNE has no objection to that?mne2 wrote:That is v1.6 - here is a link to 1.7 - http://www.filefront.com/16873661/EHM_E ... 7.1.7.exe/
Also, could you provide us with the info that would go into THIS SCREEN, in the same way we have info on version 1.6
Thank you!

Yes 3.04Tasku wrote:Don't you mean 3.0.4?rudel.dietrich wrote:A little more info on my problem. I am using 1.04 and I never see an option to select a database. Or at least an option like I am used to in the Football Manager series. I think I am missing something there.
I tried this morning and I am still having issues. I can go to the file manualy and see that it was updated but the game pulls up the default database every time. I am not even sure which database the game is using. I manually overwrote the games default database with my changes and the game still loads up the default database. Yet if I use the pre game editor and open up the edited database I can see the changes I made.
At this point I am completely lost.

This is how I remember doing it when I used the editor two years ago. The problem though is that the editor will not let me name my save file. I only have the option to 'save', 'save as' is greyed out.Tasku wrote:You get the option of picking your database only if you place your alternative database into the database folder, not overwriting it.
Not sure why the changes you've made have not come up, though, because by overwriting the default db, you should have no choise than use the edited one...
If I remember correctly when I used the editor before I was able to rename my database to what I wanted using the save as function.
I wonder if switiching to Windows 7 from then to now has some sort of implications. This is the only major thing different about my system from then to now.

Sorry for so many posts in quick succession. I am not trying to spam the board.
However I did fix my problem and what to share my solution. First, I think the problem is a result of Windows 7. I think the default installation path and the editor don't play well together. I uninstalled the game and the editor and then installed the game back using a custom path to 'My Documents'.
I reinstalled the editor and manually changed the loading point to My Documents as well. The 3.04 patch automatically wants to look here for the database so I thought it natural to put the game there. Sure enough I did some test edits and when I loaded up the game it shows my edits.
So in short, if you are having the same problem as me. Uninstall your game and then install the game back in your documents folder and that should cure the problem.
One problem however is that the editor still did not let me name my database. I had to overwrite the games default database. You should probably make a copy of the default database just in case you screw yours up.
I hope this helps someone out there. It only sucked away about 6 hours of my life

I had a really easy time turning Phoenix into the Seattle Thunderchiefs. I simply edited the Coyotes to the data that I wanted and created an arena for them to play in.philou21 wrote:Is it hard to use the pre-game editor for somebody like me who sucks in computers?I really want to put back the Nordiques at Quebec City to start a new game but I'm scared to mess things up.
Next I saved this data. Then under the club tab I created a new entry and named them the Phoenix Coyotes. I made the team status invalid and put them in the generic Ice Hall that is the first entry under the arena selection menu. You have to create this new team because the game does a check upon new game creation and looks for certain teams. If you name a team the Phoenix Coyotes then the game will be satisfied. This will prevent crashing.
So in short you just need to pick the NHL team to want to put back in Quebec and then create a new team for the team that you change. Make sure the status is set to invalid and the new team you create will not mean anything.

Ok....I will check it out. I take a look yesterday at it and it looks more simple than I thought. I didn't see anything about create a new team though but I've been able to turn Phoenix to Winnipeg.
So I can create a team from nothing or just take a nowhere team and renamed it Phoenix Coyotes? Does I need to put roster in it?
P.S. Should I copy the database? So I got the original and mine.

Make sure all of your database files are not set to be read only files. You can right click inside the directory and then look under properties and uncheck read only.philou21 wrote:Mmmmm I copy the database to make my modification into that one. But when I want to quit and save it says that he cannot create the file.

Hey just to let you know that everything is working ALMOST well with the editor I'm pretty impress of myself.
All my teams are change and some players edited.
The 2 problems I got is that when you choose your team to start a game there's no team logo appear. The second is that when you're in the "desk" of your team, the colours and logo are there but the old team name is wrote. IS there another place I need to check to change this?
