[EHM 2004]Facepacks: How to create a player picture

Post by archibalduk »

Dimensions and formats

The image must be no larger than 200x200.
There are two formats that NHL: EHM allows: jpg and png
In theory, png's are higher quality than jpg's. However, if the compression of the jpg is set to 1% then there will be little difference in quality.
Due to the nature of the jpg compression, images are smaller in file size than pngs.
I'd recommend using the jpg format since certain compressions of png's do not seem to work in EHM. Jpg's, however, work fine.
If using the jpg format, be careful not to use too high a compression since this will result in the image being too pixelated. A compression of about 10% is probably a good compromise between quality and file size. See the examples below:

Image 1% Compression - 23.6kb

Image 10% Compression - 9.27kb

Image 25% Compression - 5.52kb

Image 40% Compression - 2.95kb

Filenames

In order to give the image the correct filename, the player's name and date of birth must be known.
The filename is not case sensitive so the first and surnames can be completely in lowercase rather than starting with a capital letter.
The filename must be in the following format:

firstname_surname_dd_mm_yyyy.jpg

If, however, the player's birth day or month is a single digit then the appropriate format would be:

firstname_surname_d_m_yyy.jpg etc.

Here are some examples:

John-Michael_Liles_25_11_1980
marc_vaughan_23_7_1971
Matt_Cullen_2_11_1976
Tim_Taylor_6_2_1969

Installation

Simply place the file in NHL Eastside Hockey Manager/data/pictures/players/
