I started to consider sending Mason to juniors too, now when CatchUp brought it up. As I mentioned in my blog, I sent most of my young players to juniors or on loan in OHL/WHL or ECHL teams, but it didn't even cross my mind to check Mason's junior eligibilitybruins72 wrote:Really? I didn't even realize that Mason was still eligible for junior. That hadn't even crossed my mind because of his skill level.CatchUp wrote:I may be crazy, but I sent Mason AND Gagner back to junior. I want them both to develop properly and I've found keeping most players in junior for as long as possible is best.
I'm thinking Ryan will start the year in the AHL - but I haven't quite hit training camp yet, so things could change.

As I'm a reality fan, I decided not to take over any team affiliates this time (that saves some time too, that's the secondary reason). Now I just send guys down and keep hoping they'll got good training there. That is a bit easier in this situation, when both San Antonio and Dayton doesn't have any other team affiliates than the Jets.

My defense will be one of the first things I look at revamping! I just had a game that I won 8-5. Did either team's goalie even show up for this game or was the defense just that bad. I'm pinning this on the D. Or maybe it's my tactics? I've always been better at setting up offensive tactics than defensive.

I feel your pain Manimal! I just got beat 10-2 by Vancouver and no one seemed interested in playing defense. Numminen is a solid d and Keith is okay, but after those two, we're playing like a beer league team.
Am I the only one who isn't getting production out of Talbot? 1 goal and 4 assists in 32 games isn't the kind of production I was looking for.

Ha I'm én-route to the Stanley Cup right now. I'm in the conference finals vs. Dallas and we're up 2-0. I'm being so careful with my lines and my tactics right now. Steen went down for 2 weeks, but he's healed and I'm wondering if I should keep him benched and play a youngster or play Steen on the 2nd line... Like I said, being really careful. I want that freaking cup. So close. Ugh. I've never spent 2 days going through the playoffs before
this is nerve wracking just watching your lil 2d skaters play while all you can do is control the tactics.

Same here. Both of my goalies are under 0.900, lost 9-0 and 6-7 in first twenty matches, and couple of more games where I allowed too many goals. Is it that I suck at tactics or does the defense suck? I honestly thought that this team has good defensive core. But again, it might by problem in me.Manimal wrote:I really suck at this game! I don't know how to play defense. My goalies are great but my d-men and checkers are not playing good.
Talbot is my 4th centre since I sent Gagner back to juniors. But who's putting up some darn nice numbers, though versatile performances is Mr. Battaglia. In 3 games he has 9 points. Including a 2+3 performance O_O. Playing on checking line. Seriously, checking?Laker2415 wrote:Am I the only one who isn't getting production out of Talbot? 1 goal and 4 assists in 32 games isn't the kind of production I was looking for.
I am 11-6-3 through first 20 games. Fairly good, and if I can keep that darn puck out of my net I can be a lot better.

Almost all teams offer me to trade Gagner. Best offer I got was 1st+5th picks in 2007 draft and Tomas Kaberle! Too bad we can't trade now. I would go for it even without the draft picks or I would switch them for another good Toronto player.
I have Gagner's player status set to "Untouchable", but other teams still continue offering me trades involving him

Catchup, I have. San Antonio is 4th in the West in the AHL, but by far the best team is Grand Rapids, 33-4-1! I've never done well in the AHL, but I have a line (Battaglia-Bourque-Ryan) that is just destroying people this season. Dayton (ECHL) and Arizona (Central Hockey League) are both clinging onto playoff berths.
I actually enjoy playing as affiliates because it gives me a first hand look at the prospects and whether or not they're career minor leaguers, which, I'm finding out that I have a lot of.
As far as deals go, St. Louis wanted to trade me a 5th rounder and a prospect for Doan, who I want to sign long term. But other than the earlier Ryan deal that I had (which I'm glad we aren't allowed to make), I haven't had a deal that would grab headlines.

I added a GM so I could run my San Antonio (AHL) affiliate. They just didn't have any staff and I wanted my top prospects to develop. Latendresse has already done quite a bit of improving since being down there.CatchUp wrote:Just curious how many have added additional GMs to manage either of the farm teams...

Don't forget that we can't accept draft picks in trades. You also can't send draft picks out in trades.McQwak wrote:Almost all teams offer me to trade Gagner. I'm thinking I will incorporate Gagner into a deal for a center more my style or maybe a defenseman. I don't see Gagner in my team's future.

As did I. I was able to bring on Peter Laviolette, Bobby Carpenter and Billy Smith to my coaching staff down in the AHL. They have done wonders with McArdle, Latendresse, Stralman and even Kyle Chipchura. If i did not have Mason up in the NHL I would have called up Corey Crawford, hes been the best goaltender in the AHL all season.bruins72 wrote:I added a GM so I could run my San Antonio (AHL) affiliate. If only the Jets where as sucessful as my AHL team, id be heading for a Cup run instead of fighting for 4th in the West.

Im with you on this one. I look at how much my team has struggled with keeping pucks out of the net, players like Steve Montador will have to be replaced. I have McArdle and Latendresse beating down the door so it makes sence to trade Gagner for a better Goaltender or Defenseman.

Thanks for the input guys. I have re-started (I hadn't even made it to training camp yet) and added a GM for San Antonio. I was a little leery that Ryan et al would come out of there in one piece without making some big changes. Sounds like you got some solid coaching in there, Johnnyluc.
Did anyone replace Carlye?
