If you want to continue with the Challenge, I'd suggest the following in order to make it a level playing field:

- Seasons 3 and 4 don't count for points (but continue to record your stats on the site like normal)
- No further trades allowed until you have balanced out your quota (i.e. apply the 3 trades too many in season 3 against your quota for season 4, 5, etc) - so no further trading until it has been evened out.
I had already made 1 trade in season 4, before it started. But if I stick to that 1 trade and no trades in season 5, would that be OK? If my math is correct that would balance the quota out. And seasons 3 and 4 gets scratched.

I made one trade between 1999 SCF and July 1st, and I made 3 trades so far in season 2 !!

Really soory i know in pat challenges i remember that rule now...but tottally frgot about it this one and last one...would it be possible to delete this challenge for me totally so i can start it all over correctly. But first and foremost sorry again.

I do have a question about the rules though; do the rules outlined in Gameplay rules, (especially the stuff about Core Roster Players), apply to this challenge, in addition to the rules outlined in the challenge post on the front page, (where it says "The rules for the challenge are as follows...")?
That's correct. All of the original rules apply save that the modifications set out HERE.
Okay, thanks for clearing it up. I might give the challenge a go then. Although, I still find those Core Roster rules a bit confusing. Might have to read through the rules a couple more times before I start up.

If you look screenshot thread almost everyone thats posted made more then 3 trades per seson. Some as many as 10-20.
Its been many challanges since we had limits on number of trades.
I think you need to make a point or post how to handle this and if penalties for more then allowed trades, otherwise challange is already over couse almost everyone playing it now have broken to the rules.

Doh! Thanks for the honesty. :-)

I'll reset you for the current Challenge in about 10 minutes' time. I'm not sure what to do about past Challenges. To be honest, it's just a bit of fun and so I'd rather not go through old trophies, etc and even things out. Plus there is the possibility that we might not have the trophy system when we eventually upgrade the site.

I think we should look at how we can make the rules easier to remember/understand. The difficulty we have always had is that the game is too easy if there are too few rules. But obviously it gets a bit much if there are too many rules. Perhaps we could have some graphic at the top of the forum which sets out the key rules.

If that's the case then people haven't been reading the rules. It's wrong to say that it has been many seasons since there was a limit of trades. Take for instance the announcement for Challenge 44 (the last Challenge) and it's clear that three trades were allowed per season:
bruins72 wrote:Trades:
1 for 1, 1 for 2, 2 for 1, and 2 for 2 deals allowed.
You'll be allowed a total of 3 trades per season.
The difficulty is that B72 did/does this in his spare time and he cannot be expected to run through each screenshot. I think a graphical summary of the rules at the top of the screen might be the solution to ensure people are following the rules.

Its great fun and i understand not everything is always checked, i mean even if you could still get around rules etc..Shoud be fun and thats all that matters. Looks anyway lots of others screwed up too. Maybe it will be clearer now and thats positive too. Past challenges isnt much problem i guess, i remember i followed the rules before but totally forgot in recent one/S.

Will see if you reset and maybe try again following the rules. I like trading a lot and not too fond or good in coaching, but what stricter rules do is add to the challenge so i am tempted to try again .
First season is without trading anyway, just made lots of trades in eason 2 and 3 then teams is mor eor les assembled anyway.

I managed to get him to a 4,8m 7 year deal. I wonder if thats good or bad, of the 34 mill cap palfy eats 1/7 :) :joy:

I'll give Linden anything he wants for contract demands, same with Palffy. Lol.

Just starting the 1st season and really like this roster.

I got Palffy on 4.4 and Linden for 4.5 I think, I was lucky contract wise with those two.

In my save, I manage to get Palffy to sign 6 years at 4m p/y and Linden 6 years at 4.960 p/y. So as I see, I got a discount on Ziggy and overpaid Trevor :P

A few blanket statements:

1. Thanks Archi! I can't imagine the effort into running a challenge.
2. I missed on understand the rules a bit- but thankfully I haven't broken any.
3. Don't forget all, almost every challenge is different, and has a slightly different set of rules. Some will force you to be trade happy (see sell off the Canucks before the season starts challenge), others require specific work (Rangers using only Americans). So while this one may be more coach and slow build, some others are fast builds (and IMO, this team is about the best one with talent for a challenge in a while, so this team needs more tinkering, less overhaul.)

As for resigns: Ziggy "The only reason to play the Kings in NHL 2000" Pallfy: 7 years/ 4.785 cap hit (I am also in the 'he can have whatever he wants, I have a save where that's about the level Malkin developed to)
Trevor Linden: 6 years, 5.078 cap hit.
Still no luck for me on Salo or Berard I'm only 30 games in though.

Interesting, we haven't used the "max 2 trades" rule in quite a while now. B72 added some other restrictions instead (like the max 2 assets going either way etc).

FYI - I took a quick look at the Challenge announcement pages regarding trading rules (since the new EHM has been out)...

Challenge 44 - maximum 3 trades per season (plus some restrictions)
Challenge 43 - seems to be unlimited trades (but restrictions, like no 1sts/no unsigned prospects and more)
Challenge 42 - seems to be unlimited trades (but restrictions, like no 1sts/no unsigned prospects/age restrictions and more)
Challenge 41 - European team/no trading involved
Challenge 40 - seems to be unlimited trades (but restrictions, like no 1sts/no unsigned prospects and more)
Challenge 39 - seems to be unlimited trades but lots of restrictions
Challenge 38 - seems to be unlimited trades but lots of restrictions/requirements
Challenge 37 - seems to be unlimited trades but lots of restrictions/requirements
Challenge 36 - seems to be unlimited trades but lots of restrictions/requirements

Many of the Challenges noted above had special rules to purposely create an environment that required significant trading (youth movement/rebuild, only American players, etc)

I have now simmed two sesons as GM for Islanders. , Its been up and downs and i made 4 trades in total, 2 for draft picks and 2 for young centers. I will update with seson reviews and stats after work tomorow.

I got one question to all others:

- How do you plan to devolp Luongo ? , ECHL ? AHL ? how many seasons in lower leauges before Rookie season in NHL ?

Before when I played EHM i always traded for NHL ready keepers becouse i knew keepers take longer time to devolp, so my knowledge is this area is limitited altough i been manager in EHM for very long time. Looking forward to your answers and motivations.

He played the 1st season in the Q, I plan to let him play in the AHL all of the second season, and maybe third season as well. But 40 games in so far in S2, he already grown considerably ! I guess I'll see in the 3rd training camp !

I have him as Marty Turco's backup in my second year. He's decent in that role - 900 save percentage on my rather offensive-minded team, about the same as Turco. He tends to take a while to develop recovery I've found, but by the time that atty hits 12-14 or so... look out. He's the best goalie in the league.

Bobby Lou looks like this at the end of season 2 in my game ! Good or not ? I'm not the best at growing goaltenders :dunno:

My Luongo (feels weird to say it like that haha) is a little further along 60 games into my second season, I'll take a screen when I'm home... however I tend to devote shitloads of coaching time to goaltending in a vain attempt to counteract my crazy-ass tactics haha. You almost certainly have better development among your skaters than I.

Restricted Free Agents

What are the rules about qualifying a RFA and then signing them after July 1? Is this allowed? Or if they don't sign before July 1 do we lose them?

Thanks!

6.5 If a player contracted to your Challenge team becomes an RFA, you may re-sign him during the period of 1 June until 1 October (inclusive). This does not count towards your UFA quota.

So just make sure they're signed by october first and you'll be good

Point-per-game-plus Linden was just injured for 3 months as I took back 8th halfway through the season. Let's see how good this team really is..
