Oh yeah I read about that in the newspaper. Wasn't it something like an 82-0 loss? I think it said there was an average of a goal every 44 seconds. I think you'd really have to try to lose by that margin. Even if a team like Manchester Phoenix were pitted against someone like the Vancouver Canucks, I don't think the scoreline would be quite that large - and that's even if we played without Tony Hand.

To get this thread back on topic, here are yesterday's results:

HIFK - Jokerit 5-3
Ilves - Tappara 5-4
KalPa - JYP 1-3
Kärpät - SaiPa 7-0
Pelicans - Blues 1-4

Blues' Petri Lammassaari, who played in Lukko last season, proved a worthy acquisition by scoring two of Espoo's four goals. Also on the rise is Erkki Rajamäki, who is known as a very good, give his all, two-way forward, and now given a spot in the first line. He scored two points (1+1).

Go Rajamäki! When I get my new Blues' game jersey, it will have number 18 and "RAJAMÄKI" on the back!

Interesting also to note that Kärpät had a very good start to the season - as much you can determine by only one game. They lost most of their core players and, despite their high budget, are not quite as threatening on paper, as they were last season. Plus they also lost their head coach, Kari Jalonen, to HIFK, who was replaced by Mika Alatalo, who has yet to achieve anything substantial in SM-liiga.

Kärpät head coach is Matti Alatalo not Mika Alatalo

7-0 is quite some result! Are Karpat no longer the team to beat in the SM-liiga?

Unless they make some acquisitions mid-season. That announced three million euro player budget would incline though, that more acquisitions be coming.

All in all, exciting season it is going to be!

Yesterday HIFK somewhat swept the floor with Jokerit. Although in the first period Jokerit was clearly the better team, in the second HIFK already had the upperhand, and in the third there was only one team on the ice, as HIFK scored 4 goals to a 3-6 victory.

Although i've seen only one and a half games from HIFK this season, I enjoy it more now than i ever did the last two seasons. Now it actually looks hockey. Hallelujah Kari jalonen!

I'd like HPK and TPS to do a little better, but seeing Jokerit with their 3 million euro player budget and hot shot former NHL coach, Glen Hanlon, in the mudd, I have to say puts a tiny little malicious smile on my face.

Yes there's TuTo and Hokki in high placed, but I still believe that money teams like Sport and KooKoo are strong in playoffs.

It feels so good to see Kärpät and HIFK play so bad now. Warms my heart so nicely. <3 Jokerit are in a six or seven game winning streak and that's a good thing. Maybe there is some hope with Hanlon.. who knows.

Todays game with Kärpät was nice. The ending was gold. Jani Rita scored the winning goal at 59.59.

No way Kärpät.. Kärpät is the Cinderella story of this decade. First of climping to the clorys.. but then crashing down and then climping again in top and creating real dynasty.. dynasty of northern Finland.. and hen crashing again.

I relly appreciate other Finnish greatest as TPS and Jokerit, but don't want anymore glory for them.
Well TPS is gonna replaced by TuTo in this season.. and Jokerit will drive in swamp.. once again.

JYP? Ooh Adam Oates I even partically live in Jyväskylä and I don't even care about JYP!

HPK? Kärpät has beaten HPK fo several times.. not change in this season.
Tappara and Ilves? Who are playing in Tappara than veterans I really think that in Ilves Helminen is just chancged his name to Kuusisto.. and Jonas Enlund is twin brother of Ojanen...?
Then we come to SaiPa. who are those? At least what I know that tarkki playing Kärpät goalie little brother.. who else?
Next to Pelicans.. yes there's some decent youngsters.. thats all.. nothing else would live in Lahti.. not even me.

A big profile in swedish hockey, Magnus Wernblom, has retired.

He's the player who has got most penalty minutes in Elitserien, but also the player who has scored most goals in Elitserien after the greatest player in Elitserien ever, Håkan Loob. Thanks for these years Magnus.

He wasn't even close to get to NHL, but he was great in Elitserien.

Big shocker...or maybe not:

Peter Forsberg played two games for MoDo and scored 3 points (1+2) before his foot/feet once again stop him from playing. At the moment he gives up his attempts on a comeback, but with that said he hasn't announced his retirement yet.

Yeah, I feel sorry for him as well. I wanted him to do a comeback, but I also knew his foot isn't 100% and he said that it need to feel like if he was going to do well, then he was going to play. I like the fact that he tried and against Djurgården MoDo seemed to score as soon Forsberg was on the ice.

Congrats to Zurich Lions of Switzerland who won the inaugral European champions ice hockey league after beating Russian side Metallurg Magnitogorsk convincingly over 2 legs. After a 2-2 draw in Russia the Lions strolled to a 5-0 home win to take the title 7-2 on aggregate. Metallurg were the winners of the euro champions cup in 2008 which has become the champions league.

It is over 5 years since a non Russian team were champions of Europe so this is a big win for Zurich and the manner they done it in is excellent.

The local team here in town just won the Swedish championship. I moved here so I don't like that team, but darn, they have obnoxious fans. I don't like screaming fans, no matter what team, but the locals here are such big homers. Yes, their team was the best this year but come on.

My favourites never even made the play-offs
