Since I wasn't able to do exactly like you wanted I have been trying other ways of making the ability area clearer. Which one do you guys prefer? I added the default one (top left) as a reference.
Dabo, would it be possible for you to make an inverted version of the middle-top chart? I mean, so that the outside is shaded, not the inside. The way it is now it makes the outside stand out far more, which I think is slightly unintuitive. :-k

I am sorry I cannot.

What do you think of this circular shape?

Since the background gradient I am using is radial it fits better and also allows me to use the same background independently of how many categories I have in the radar chart (each set of categories needs its own background for the other polygon shape).

I like the round one, too. It's more of a one-size-fits-all than the polygons that change with the number of categories being shown.

That is great. :) Now what is next up to show? :-p

I am happy you liked the circular shape, to be honest it makes it a lot easier and I think it looks a lot better on radar charts with for example 3 or 4 categories only.

What?! getting tired of radar charts? ;)

Don't know really what I will show next, once I am done in school in 1 1/2 weeks I will carry on the "under the hood" development I paused 2 month ago. Once the database is done I will be able to show some screenshots with actual player data.

I'd like to know what hidden attributes and tendencies are in the game? And staff roles. Head coach, assistant coach, scout etc.

I have stolen most from NHL:EHM, these are the hidden attributes:

Fighting Ability
Fighting Tendency
Hitting Tendency
Shooting Tendency
Shot Blocking Tendency
Injury Proneness
Natural Fitness
Agitation
Versatility
Consistency
Dirtyness
Important Games
Adaptability
Ambition
Loyalty
Pressure
Professionalism
Temperament
Current Ability
Potential Ability

Staff roles are pretty much like in NHL:EHM as well, haven't thought a lot about it really.

I am still open for suggestions, let me know if you wanna add/change anything.

I think the octagon design looks better than the circle because even if a player was to have maximum ratings, their shaded area wouldn't fill the circle whereas it would with the octagon.

Of those six posted, I like the top middle the best.

This might be cheeky, but would you consider using the TBL colour scheme for your game?!

I prefer shading anyway. It makes the chart way more easy to read. Though I think shading could be even more stronger.

How about having a white background with the shading on top? That would make the shading stand out more. Maybe the shading could be bright green (or TBL blue: #006699)?

Round shape for the win! I think the idea of Ciryatan was great but since you can't do it, I prefer too there's not shade at all.

I might sound blaspheme, but this has all the tools to be better than EHM!
Regarding the coaches positions, I think the way EHM works is fine, but I would love to have goalie coach as a separate position. Thus having Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Goalie Coach.

I have people who want shading and people who don't, looks like I am gonna have to create a poll down the road or just pick one randomly.

You are right, luckily no player will have the maximum on everything and even if one had, I have tried it and it looks ok. And if I didn't use any shading you wouldn't be able to tell if the player has maximum skills or no skills at all since the border of the ability area would overlay the border of the chart.

Would you care to elaborate? You mean you want the gui to be TBL blue?
archibalduk wrote:How about having a white background with the shading on top? That would make the shading stand out more. Maybe the shading could be bright green (or TBL blue: #006699)?
I don't wanna abandon the gradient background, like some others said, it livens up the gui since so much else is white/light gray.

Excellent idea, will add that.

Believe me I don't like the gray application-look but since basic winforms sucks for other colors, unless you wanna customize the controls, it will have to wait. That's part of the "big plans" I said I have for the gui.

Hi, this looks like a fantastic project. Really impressed with what I've read.

You asked what could replace angles, and something that I think needs to be put in is "Tracking the Puck". It could mean fighting to see the puck through traffic, but also the goalie's ability to read the play and get into position early enough to get set for a shot.

Pretty much, but I didn't see it in this:

It's more called Anticipation in my opinion, it's the same thing.

dabo,

I really like the look of the player attributes screenshots that you have posted.

Do you have any attributes screenshots of any of the hockey staff that would be in a Hockey Manager game like General Manager, Assistant Manager, Coaching staff, Scouts and Trainers to post here?
I'm very interested to see what attributes you are using for the Hockey staff.

I don't have any screenshots but I can post the attributes when I get home.

Come to think of it, I can have radar charts for the staff too, yay ;)
That would be great, thank you!

I pretty much stole what FM is using:

Coaching
Defenders
Fitness
Forwards
Goalkeepers
Mental
Tactical
Technical
Youngsters

Mental
Adaptability (hidden for players, perhaps it should be the same for members of the staff)
Determination
Discipline
Estimate Player Ability
Estimate Player Potential
Motivation
Physiotherapy
Tactical Knowledge

Hidden
Adaptability
Ambition
Decisions (not hidden for players and perhaps shouldn't be for members of the staff)
Important Games
Loyalty
Pressure
Professionalism
Temperament
Current Ability
Potential Ability

The above hidden attributes is a subset of the hidden player attributes. I think most of the ones mentioned above apply for some members of the staff as well. A scout for example, temperament perhaps is not very important but a scout could be hired as a coach too if he is qualified, and the temperament attribute for someone hired as a scout could simply be ignored in the game.

As always, I'd like to hear your thoughts, something missing?
