Yeah, I haven't seen how these guys will perform. I've just made the deals and I'm ready to go into the draft.

I'm still not sure who we should use. I want to go with the team that will be the most fun for everyone to do in this challenge. I also want this challenge to be very approachable for people who haven't participated in the challenges before or haven't done them much. Maybe I should run a poll? Wild, Panthers, or Canucks?

:dunno:

Maybe yeah. I was thinking tha no matter who we use will be quite a few young prospects to develop which will make it fun no matter what. Can't speak for others so a poll sounds good

So I have simmed one season just for fun, latest rosters (PSos) and Enhanced for all leagues.
Canucks ended on 11th spot in WC. On June 5th I took over them and tried few trades.

I was able to trade Sedin Twins to Red Wings for following picks:
1st rd (17th overall) 2015, 5th+6th2015, 1st+2nd+3rd+4th 2016, 1st+2nd+3rd+4th 2017, 1st+2nd 2018

So altogether - 4 first round picks, 3 second round picks, 2 third round picks, 2 fourth round picks and two more lower picks in 2015.

Holy Mother of God!!! :-o :-o Babcock must be crazy for Sedins... Good luck with their cap hit of 7m/y each! Both are 34 and scored around 55 points only this season.

Even after such crazy trade, Canucks fans and board were really angry!??!

On the other hand, it was nearly impossible to get any TOP 5 first round 2015 picks without HEAVY overpayment.

Btw, I like that idea to allow trade Sedins only to same team and I would add there condition, that it must be organization from Eastern Conference..

Just to summarize proposed rules:
- have to trade away all players 29 years or older before the draft 2015
- can trade only for signed players not older than 24 years
- no trading of unsigned prospects (in and out)
- can not trade away own picks
- no other limits for trading (no player-tier or picks limitations)

Did I get it right?

Yup. Also, no staff moves before July 1st. I'm also thinking if we're doing the Canucks you can't re-sign those 28 year old guys with expiring contracts. I've also thought about not allowing trading for future picks in that first round of trading before the draft.

Good with no future picks and who are the 28s with expiring deals? Depending on who they are this team may need them desperately to fill out some things.

Maybe a little off-topic and maybe a dumb question, but...

I'm playing Challenge #36 right now, season 1 and I seem to be blind but I couldn't find a hint if I am allowed to call up players from AHL/OHL to compensate injuries. It's the first NHL-team I ever manage so the whole contract system is not a thing I know best

Yes, you are allowed to call-up players from the AHL. You can't really "call-up" OHL players. Once they're sent back to the OHL at the beginning of the season, they spend the rest of the season there. They'll come back to your club during the off-season and you can make a decision on them the next season. WHL and QMJHL are the same. As for your AHL/ECHL guys, you'll be warned if they have to pass through waivers before being recalled. Keep in mind, they may need to pass through waivers to be sent back down. If you look on the player's "Information" tab it should show whether they are eligible for waivers or exempt from waivers.

Ah, good, thank you. Because I have three centers injured and playing with only three lines doesn't seem to work too good over a long time. Passing through waivers means that they can be acquired by any team for the next 24 hours, did I get that right?

It's either 24 hours or 72 hours, I believe. I think it depends on the day.

Derek Dorsett and Cal O'Reilly.

I should have posted a notice about ending the challenge earlier so we could get rolling on this. What do you guys think if fair notice?

You kind of did give notice in this thread, is anyone even playing the challenge still apart from the new guy (no disrespect meant)?

If the majority decides to cancel the challenge, I will stop playing it and focus on the new one. As I have only 19 games played yet it would be no great loss I think

We also ran that poll asking who was still playing. And then the poll for choosing the team.

I've got a news item graphic all set...

Thanks!

I think I'm going to allow Dorsett and O'Reilly to be re-signed and kept because they'll be the only tradeable guys in season 2.

Does this sound okay for the rules? Please let me know if I've forgotten anything or if anything is unclear...
I'm pleased to announce Challenge #37! In this challenge we're going to do something a bit different than we normally do with the challenges and we're also going to simplify the rules for all of the folks that don't normally participate in the challenges. For this challenge we're going to provide everyone with a saved game that I have simmed through to April 15th 2015. When you load this game, you'll retire the temporary GM I made (named TBL Challenge) and add your GM, taking over the Vancouver Canucks. At that point, you'll want to immediately send your scouts out to scout the NHL Draft. You should have just enough time to scout for the draft. You'll also want to scout the NHL and maybe the AHL and ECHL too because we're going to blow up the Canucks!

This is how it will work...

Once the Stanley Cup Finals are done (the game starts early in the playoffs and the Canucks are on the outside looking in) and trading has opened up again, you're going to trade away every player on your team that is 29 year old or older! You're going to trade them for draft picks and young players. Anyone not traded before entering the draft has to be released.

All players aged 29 or older must be traded or released before entering the draft. Player's age is as of the start of the season. i.e. Alexander Edler is 28 when you load the save. He will be 29 before the start of the 2015-2016 season. He counts as being 29.
You must trade these players for draft picks or young players under contract (or a combination of the two).
Incoming players must be aged 24 or younger!
You may not trade for unsigned players/prospects!
You may not send draft picks out in a trade. They can only come in.
You can package multiple 29 or older players in a deal.
You must trade the Sedin twins together in a deal.
You may not trade for draft picks for future drafts, only the 2015 draft.
You may not re-sign players aged 29 and over so that they'll get trade interest. In this challenge, that's Brad Richardson. He'll have to be allowed to go for nothing.
You may re-sign any other players with expiring contracts.
You may sign any of your unsigned prospects but you may not trade them.

Once July 1st comes around you're allowed to hire and fire non-playing staff freely. Put the staff that you want in place. Find staff that work well with youngsters so that you'll be able to develop all of these young players you have. Find good scouts for the coming years. Going in to season 1 (the 2015-2016) season, you can sign any of your prospects that you like but you are not allowed to sign any UFAs. You're also not allowed to make waiver claims. You won't be able to make any more moves in this first season. Play it out and develop your young players.

Season 2 and on

Each season on June 15th the veteran age will drop. You'll have the option of trading away these veteran players or keeping them. The same restrictions apply here that applied the when you first took over the team but the age will drop

2015-2016: Players aged 28 or older may be traded
2016-2017: Players aged 27 or older may be traded
2017-2018: Players aged 26 or older may be traded
2018-2019: Players aged 25 or older may be traded

Also, each season you may trade one players under the veteran age. You may not package this player with a veteran. They must be traded on their own.

In this challenge you are not allowed to:
Trade away your draft picks.
Sign UFAs.
Claim players from waivers.

Looks good Bruins. But from what I am reading you are allowing the deal of one player under the vet age in season one as well? that surprised me. And I assume that player may only be dealt for someone 24 or under?

It's written under "Season 2 and on", right? Maybe it should be written a bit clearer :P
