NAHL: Done but with a 70 GP schedule rather than 74 GP (I think this is the best we're going to get as it's not clear how a 74 GP schedule would work and there's no details online).

Summit Series: Done but I haven't yet sussed out how to get the Skip Random Years setting to work.
Current politics events aside, what about Soviet league ? It should be relative easy from playing format wise to implement it in editor, since it was 10 teams, and 36 games, with no playoffs.

It's already in the DB and playable (10 teams, 54 game schedule, no playoffs)

Would you like me to drop the schedule down to 36 GP or left at 54 GP?

I've updated the AHL with an 80 GP schedule taken from the real life 1979/80 IHL schedule (thanks Nino!) and I've also completed the IHL with a 70 GP schedule. They're not 100% the same as the real life leagues (both of which had a 76 GP schedule) but it's near enough. Now on to the CHL - I just need to find a half decent schedule template for an eight team league split into two divisions with approx. 78 GP.

NHL: Done but I need to slightly adjust the playoff format to mirror real life.
WHA: Done using the 73/74 structure as requested.
AHL: Done with an 80 GP schedule.
IHL: Done with a 70 GP schedule.
NAHL: Done but with a 70 GP schedule rather than 74 GP (I think this is the best we're going to get as it's not clear how a 74 GP schedule would work and there's no details online).
SHL: Done

To do:
- CHL
- OHL / QMJHL / WHL / Memorial Cup
- Canada Cup
- Olympics
- World Championships

FYI there are two Binghamton Dusters teams in the DB. One of them will need to be renamed/deleted.

NHL: Done but I need to slightly adjust the playoff format to mirror real life.
WHA: Done using the 73/74 structure as requested.
AHL: Done with an 80 GP schedule.
CHL: Done but the schedule needs some tidying-up as there's too many Fri-Sat-Sun back to back games.
IHL: Done with a 70 GP schedule.
NAHL: Done but with a 70 GP schedule rather than 74 GP (I think this is the best we're going to get as it's not clear how a 74 GP schedule would work and there's no details online).
SHL: Done

To do:
- OHL / QMJHL / WHL / Memorial Cup (for double-checking re a possible issue with Memorial Cup scheduling).
- Canada Cup
- Olympics
- World Championships

Is there a way to delete a team? I'm not sure how. I tried by being on the Clubs tab and clicking on the team in the list and then clicking Delete Item, but I get an error message saying "Unable to remove any rows (Clubs)"

Annoyingly there's no way in Editor v1 to delete clubs. The best thing to do is to give it some placeholder name and set it as inactive. Then set it as another club when you next need a new club in the DB.

Is it possible with editor to pre-set soviet club tour of NHL ? If not, then Soviet clubs should get their reputation bumped so that NHL teams will accept invitations for ehxibithion games.

- Canada Cup
- Pre season exhibition tournament between NHL, WHA and Soviet teams per Filip Croatia's suggestion.

nino33 - I think the to-do list above is the extent of the remaining leagues you'd like added/fixed for this release of the database but let me know if I'm missing any. I know there's a few other leagues you're thinking about for a future subsequent release but not for this upcoming release - so I won't do those ones for now (e.g. former Czechoslovakia).

nino33 - there are two ways we can setup the above: (1) The reigning champions of the NHL, WHA and Russian Elite compete in a three team pre-season tournament; or (2) We pre-set a number of NHL, WHA and Russian teams who will compete in the tournament each pre-season. The advantage of (1) is that the team line-up will change each season (but we can only bring-in the champion from each league - I can't see a way of being able to bring in additional teams dynamically). The advantage of (2) is that we can make it a larger tournament (but it'll be the same teams each season). Let me know which you would prefer.

Just wondering, does it have to occur every year? Can it be variable/periodic?

Off the top of my head, it can be either annual or every four years. In addition, there's a flag that allows annual or four yearly occurrences to be randomly skipped (e.g. 1974, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1980 or 1974, 1978, 1986, 1990, etc).

archibalduk - Does the Canada Cup overlap the NHL preseason at all? If Super Series exhibition games occur during preseason, I wouldn't want then to conflict with the Canada Cup

I mirrored the IRL 1976 Canada Cup dates, so it runs from early to mid September. I was thinking the Super Series could run during mid to late August to avoid a conflict.

Hi Arch

For the Super Series idea, I don't like the options we have! HaHa
For now lets put the idea of NHL/WHA exhibitions with international teams on the "maybe in the future" list (along with the Czech/Slovak league and the Izvestia tournament)

With some things I really don't think I can effectively know or fine tune what I think or want right now. I need to familiarize/refamiliarize myself with DB leagues/tournaments. When I get the 3K players I'm working on added to the edited database you're working on, I intend to spend time doing initial playtesting and doing this will make any additional/future editing decisions much easier to make. I'd guess I'm a few weeks away from being ready to import the players (and still months away from a release).

P.S. Always cool seeing Bernie Parent in the banner

Good plan! I'll finish tweaking the Olympics like we discussed and a few other minor points (double-checking a possible Memorial Cup schedule error, etc) and that'll be the structures done. We might then want to think about tweaking some of the basic rules but I expect they could be left as-is if preferred for now.

I'm very much interested in looking at rules/finances
Over the next week or so I'll refamiliarize myself with what we currently have in the DB and what I'd like to see if possible

All is now done other than tweaking the NHL playoff structure to include the byes for the divisional winners. Unfortunately I couldn't reduce the size of the Olympics as qualification is part hard-coded. So I've left it as a single round robin of 12 teams and the top three are the medal winners per Nino's request.

Edit: A long term test shows that there's a rare occurrence of the OHL and WHL overrunning which means that the Memorial Cup cannot draw an OHL/WHL team. This was the error I encountered a month or so ago but couldn't reproduce. I had it occur for the OHL about 6 times and the WHL about 5 times during my 51 year test sim to the end of June 2025. The fix will be to make the OHL and WHL playoffs finish slightly earlier and to start the Memorial Cup slightly later.
