Howson wussed out big time. He could have got more. Just he only freaking really spoke with the Rangers. Never gave Detoilet, vancouver, Chicago, or anyone else a chance at him.

Had to deal with the Rags....as did not want Nash haunting him if Jackets ever made playoffs. But he should have been speaking with EVERY eastern team, not just the Rags. This is basically the Joe Thornton trade all over again. Dubinsky and Anisimov are 3rd line guys on a good team. Erixon? Guy has already been traded twice and not even in the show. So....

Nice comparison! I definitely put this with the Thornton trade. The only advantage I give Howson is that he got a 1st rounder in the package at least. Of course, it will be a late 1st rounder.

Maybe we should have waited for another Blue Jackets challenge? They're going to be even worse this coming season!

Weber will stay in Nashville at least! Preds made the right decision even though that contract is completely ridiculous.

Nash had a NTC, so I'm not sure how it would have helped to talk to teams Nash said he wouldn't go to

Oh I know for many of them. But he would have gone to quite a few of them. Why? Because eventually you have to make the list bigger if you REALLY want out.

Tortorella: "We're losing a couple good players here and a prospect. I'm very close to Dubi and Artie. They've been very good players for us. Erixon is a young player who has potential. I still haven't seen it yet. But he has potential to be a really good player."

Is this his diplomatic way of saying "I don't rate him, so the BJ's can pay his wages from now on."? Just missing a "U mad bro?" at the end IMO...

I don't know; I think Tortorella is being truthful. He's never really come across as the diplomatic type. I've always found him to be someone who wears his heart on his sleeve and tells it like it is.

Yep. Lets look at Erixon.

Calgary drafts...he refuses to sign. Traded to Rangers for what?? Two seconds (Granlund and Wotherspoon) and Roman Horak...decent value for a guy who never played.

Then goes to Rangers...and plays in the minors all year...and gets dealt as package for Nash. He was the throw in. Tortorella is speaking his mind and he is right...Erixon will be nothing in the show.

Voracek 4 years in Philly and Angelo Esposito goes in Finland. What a piece of junk that guy is......and to think everyone in Qc wanted the Canadiens to draft him because he's from here.

There was a point in time when Angelo Esposito was thought to be the consensus #1 pick. (Of course that was a full year before his draft year) In fact if I'm not mistaken in the original EHM db he's usually a solid prospect and high up in the NHL Draft rankings.

Hurricanes signed Semin with one-year-deal worth 7 millions.

In my games with th original DB he is always rank in the first 15 skaters but never improve to something good at all.

I've read something about Doan asking for a 4 years deal worth 30 millions dollars! :-o Where on earth does he think he is? Oh wait......Semin got something as stupid as this yesterday so maybe he can try it too.

4 years 30 mill. TO MOVE from what he considers his home. I would say considering he has already had that offer from an Eastern team...he is not asking for more than he is worth on the market.

He's 36 years old...7 million dollars a year! He's not going to put people in the seats...a 36 year old gritty leader is worth 7 million dollars a year

Here in Edmonton they want the taxpayer to build a new $500 million dollar arena (don't they always? and doesn't it always cost much more?)...they can't build their own arenas, tickets are so expensive the average person can't attend...we the people are "the market" and we can't afford it!

I don't get this deal.. Partly because I can't stand Carolina, but why go there, and why only for 1 year?! He should have gone back to the KHL instead. He would earn more and probably have a better chance of winning some trophies if that's his aim!

No one is probably feeling confortable enough with him to sign him for a few years. Plus 7 millions is already too much for a guy like him. He only got a really good season so far the others are ok but he could worth a 5,5 or 6 millions in today's NHL.

And batdad come on, I can understand but it's not like he as the choice. 7,5 millions is completely ridiculous. If Phoenix can't sign him then he is in no position to ask such a stupid amount of money at this age. He is probably trying to have the more he can get with all those stupid contracts today.

Maybe it's just about the money (i.e. he took the highest offer) and avoiding the pressure of a real hockey market

I guess it must be. If he wanted money though go to the KHL. He comes from Traktor Chelyabinsk.. they now have lots of money so im sure they could set him up for retirement after a season or 2!

He already has an offer for $30 mill over 4 years. So he can ask for it. Shane Doan was offered that over a week ago. Many feel it is Buffalo who made that offer. But I have a feeling that it was not. It is just defined as an Eastern Conference team.

So...if someone has already offered it...I guess he is worth it...no matter how much we do not like it.

As for Semin--He gets one final chance to prove himself. One year deal, no risk for Carolina other than money. If he puts up numbers...boom Canes are a real good team.

What really bugs me is how agents/arbitrators/unions use such signings (and things just get crazier and crazier); I could live with the fact that every year circumstances come together so that "the market" really pays off for a few players, but I hate the precedents that are set (and then all other contracts are "relative to" signings that really had special circumstances)

Good point!
