I see in Marsac's screenshot he has Ritchie on his Edmonton team.bruins72 wrote:It's funny. If I remember right, I drafted Ritchie in the last challenge, maybe even the one before that.

Ya i work from home so I play while I work when I have the opportunity.batdad wrote:Wow--You be flying along JohnnyLuc.
Good to see how high Campbell was drafted. I was just thinking about things, we should see as a side competition who gets the highest draft pick into the NHL during this challenge. That should garner some kind of award or challenge points. Campbell 50th could be tough to beat at least for seasons 1-3. Cool stuff. And to see Ritchie and CAmpagna drafted is interesting.
Where did you get Quine and Gortz..I do not have either.
I picked up Quine from Kingston as my first trade, and Gortz in the import draft. I have the rights to Larrson who went 6th overall, it that helps! lol.
Ritchie should go higher then that, he has been a 1st rounder in many games that I have run.
Im expecting Fransicso to be a top 30 pick as well, based on his ISS ranking heading into season 3.

Well I finally have my season 1 segment 3 numbers in. That was a disappointing stretch. Kerbashian and Ritchie had some dry spells in there and the team in general has been inconsistent. And then to make things more difficult, Campbell went out injured (expected to miss 3 weeks) toward the end of the segment. Hopefully they'll turn things around and play better in the last segment.

So Season 2 is finished, regular season that is. And we didn't fare any better than last season. In fact we went backwards in some places. The only improved area was our PP we were 96 for 484 this year. Last year we were 88 for 488. Our PK was atrocious this year and our defence overall was pretty bad. We didn't have a single skater finish in the plus.
We really suffered by losing our overagers from last year and I'm almost scared to see what would have happened if I didn't have them last year. Kerbashian and Ritchie were trying their darndest to be out Jamie Arniel this year the finished the season tied for the lead in point at 73.
Felix Liljegren (one my two import draft picks) had a great rookie season finishing third on the team with 53 (tied with Jesse Stoughton) Our first round pick (3rd overall) was centreman Drew Lemaire who had an inconsistent season but did finish with 24 points.
I am looking forward to the '08 draft as it looks like a much stronger and deeper draft than last year and I may actually get some good young guys who can play key roles next year.

The London Knights were the worst team in the league for the first half of season two so I decided to try and get one of their overaged players and I managed to get Nazem Kadri for Mitch Zion. Kadri hasn't been as good as I expected but he still manages to get nearly a point per game.
The team has improved quite a bit since last season but for whatever reason the media wont leave us alone. It seems like every day they are criticizing one or two of my players to the point where pretty much every player on the team is unhappy. To make things worse I have also been getting a few things like this and this.

Season 2, Qualified for the Playoffs in only 57 games.
Lines are starting to click atm.
Kerbashian - O'Quinn - Ritchie
Fransisco - Zion - Messfeldt
Milligan - Quine - Carrier
Netterberg - Campagna - Hottot
Quine was aquired in a one for one deal for Preisinger.
Calvin Carrier was my 1st round pick in the OHL draft, 15th overall.
Netterberg and Messfeldt were my two Import draft picks.
Rogalski - Sullivan
Chiarlitti - Paat
Flemington - Broussard
Campbell - Raymond
Jake Milligan is just too good to believe. I have him playing on a defensive 3rd line and he's a +21 with 12 goals and 21 points in 50 games. He never gets a grade below 7 and is currently at 7.44 avg. Calvin Carrier is putting up similar numbers on his line.

Very happy with my 08 draft picks. Most of them are projected higher than my 07 draft pciks, and I've even released some of my 07 draft picks when having to deal wiht my reserve list.
Interesting note for this years Memorial Cup. Erie was the host, adn they finished 9th in teh Conference out of the playoffs. And they won teh Mem. Cup. I guess a long rest did them well.

Finished off the Season One regular season in 4th place. Owen Sound took me to seven games in the first round, but I closed it out in OT with a goal by Ritchie. Next up, we drew London and I was sure we were toast - we lost the season series 3-1. Lo and behold, I just put them out in 4 straight, including a 9-2 win in game 3.
I haven't moved on to the third round yet, but I'm excited that the team is exceeding expectations.

Playing second stint of season 2 (yes, I'm slow
) Doing pretty good so far, currently on the fourth place in the western conference.
My lines atm:
Kerbashian - Arniel - Ritchie
Francisco - Neal - Preisinger
Kavarazis - Campagna - Hottot
Zion - MacQueen - Alderson
Katic - Sullivan
Chiarlitti - Soucie
Flemington - Donati
Campbell - Phillips
The first line is the only that can produce points from game to game. Second line is getting there, last game they scored our all four goals. Katic got injured for two months just before the season started, but I got lucky and Islanders sent him down now that he has recovered

3rd segment complete. Wow! I went 14-2-1. During that time, Erie made up some ground and is now ahead of me by 2 points. They played more games (4 I think) then I did in the same time frame and won them all. They have been playing very well, and are the team I seem to be having the most difficulty with as well.
Arniel picked up his pace as did Kerbashian. However, others have tailed off.
Amazingly, Gladwish won OHL Player of the MOnth for January. He played exactly 4 games. HE did have nice numbers though allowing only 3 goals and winning all 4.
Right now my best two players are both defensemen.
Sullivan is tied for the team lead in points (40) and is tied for 3rd on the team with 12 goals. He is 2nd in plus minus and other than my goalies is the highest rated player I have. He is my only non goalie regular with an over 7.5 avg rating. Thankfully guys step up when some are playing poorly, and then when those guys suck others play well.
I had to call up Flemington from the Jr A team due to a couple of defensive injuries. He is the only other player who has dressed for me who has an over 7.5 rating. He has played 10 games now (originally the plan was to send him back after 2 games) and has scored 4 goals and added 5 assists. Needless to say...he is not going anywhere for now. And he is playing a ton now. AFter starting with 10-12 minutes, he is now on my 2nd pair, first PP and 2nd PK. So yep...we shall see. Keeps rocking.
Campbell and Gladwish continually perform very well. Both have not had anything under an 8 rating for over a month. Touch wood.
This team is 3-0 against Windsor! Have to like that!

So Season 3 is about to start and I'm excited about this season.
I had four players drafted into the NHL.
-Brett Ritchie went 15th overall to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
-Christian Elborg went in the 4th round to the Islanders.
-J.C. Campagna went in the 5th round to Dallas.
-Shayne Campbell went in the 7th round to Toronto.
I'm impressed with that since both Campagna and Campbell were not ranked going into the draft.
In the season Preview we were ranked 13th and that give me hope for a successful season. Drew Lemaire (my 1st rounder from '07) was ranked 9th Centre. adn Ritchie and Elsborg were ranked in the Top 10 RW (5th and 7th respectivly)
We are about to play the first game of the season and Ritchie, Liljegren and Campbell are still at their NHL training camps. Rogalski is still serving one mroe game from a suspension he got at the end of last season. So once they are back my lines will look like this:
Schell - Goodwin - Ritchie
Francisco - Campagna - Liljegren
Milligan - Lemaire - Elsborg
Kavaratzis - O'Quinn - Ladouceur
Chiarlitti - Paat
Rogalski - Johnson
Cizek - Tanti/Morin
Goalies: May and Campbell will share goaltending duties.
Bryson Schell was the 1st overall pick in the 08 draft.
Renaud Goodwin was my 3rd rounder from '08
Atcheynum May was my 2nd rounder from '08
Catlin Ladouceur I got from Mississauga for Jamie Phillips.
Cizek was my first rounder Import.
Tanti was a 5th rounder from '07 and Morin was a 13th the '08 draft who had a good camp.

Ok so I got started on this challenge, should be interesting to worry about reserve lists instead of salary caps.
I'm having a bit of trouble with player evaluation. In the NHL I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for in a player but I haven't quite figured it out at this level yet so I'm pretty much trusting my AGM.
I had Arniel and Neal sent back and they have been my top performers by far. I've also been surprised with the production of my defensemen, Chiarlitti is third on the team in goal scoring. I've never seen that on the NHL level and I use the same instructions for him that I normally do.
We finished 6-9-2 in the first quarter with terrible special teams. I switched the defensive coverage from man to zonal, the PP from 2-1-2 to Umbrella, the PP RWs and the PK forwards. The second set was alot better after that at 12-5-0 with two of the losses in the final two games of the segment. Unfortunately those two games were the start of our current struggles and we are 5-5-0 in the last 10 games.

Won the Memorial Cup in my second season, and what a run it was!
Swept Saginaw in the first round
Beat Guelph 4-1 in the semi final
And then a hard fought series with Windsor saw my team barely advance in a 4-2 series win (went down 2-0 in the series, won game 3, and then in a crucial game 4 it went into THIRD overtime before Chiarlitti scored to turn the series around)
After the Windsor series, the cup final ended up being a cake walk 4-1 win over Belleville.
Then in the Memorial Cup, we lost the first two games to Erie Cape Breton, both by one goal. Then we had a big 5-2 win over Everett. Luckily, Erie went 3-0, so Sarnia and Everett ended up playing again, but this time in the semi-final, where we beat them even harder 7-2. The final against Erie was one of the most nervous games I've ever played, and off of 4 goals scored off defenders, my team won 5-4 to win the Memorial cup.
I really didn't see it coming, thought I'd need a few more years before I got this far
and to top it off I just drafted like 13 players who could all play on my team in one way or another (several of them will be upgrades to my top lines).
Now, my question is, do the wins in the Memorial cup count as playoff wins?
