Ducks would be fun if you are trying to go "realistic". Having to trade guys like Getzlaf and Perry (30) and Kesler (31) would hurt big time.

From a non-biased (I can at least say that right?) I think Red Wings are a fantastic option because for years we have been waiting for a rebuild. I think them making the playoffs in your sim makes it harder- because we wouldn't get a high draft pick when we take over.

- Mainly old guys (they get traded away)
- No elite goalie (not sure what Mrazek's cap is in the DB)
- No HOF stud young players which is good (McDavid, etc that develop into stars quickly)

Red Wings could be cool but i think their young core is really good actually, they have drafted so incredibly well that they are more or less stacked everywhere except on D. Nyquist, Tatar, Larkin, Jurco, Mantha, Pulkkinen, Mrazek and Svechnikov, i probably missed someone aswell.

Bruins. It is time to reward the man.

We did them fairly recently for good ole Bruins :-p http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/ch ... _index.php

but I'm cool w/it as long as we have to trade Rask since he would be 29 and the rules are anyone over 29.

Just a quick thought: I'm forcing myself to build my team to be hard agitating checkers that are big. Maybe some day we could do a challenge were the players you can get are limited by size or weight? :joy:

That could be cool, hard to get the right limits though.

It's a cool idea but then we'd end up with everyone having very similar teams. It would also be very difficult to regulate that and make sure everyone is following that sort of rule.

I have not looked at all challenges, but a nice one would be a Canadian team, with only Canadian players. Or a US team with US players. I usually end up with 75% European guys in my games, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I can get behind that, if we go Canadian we need some more restrictions aswell though.

Montreal with only QMJHL-players(Quebec and Maritimes)?
Ottawa wityh only Ontario-players?
Perhaps allow the junior rule of two imports?

or St. Louis with only blue-eyed players? :-D

Something like that yeah, sounds fun :) Talking about the first two, not the STL one ;)

I get most of it... but why only blue eyes for St. Louis? :-?

I'm all for doing these kind of odd-ball type challenges. I think I had planned (but maybe never actually did) something like this in the past. Would you guys be rather we start with a modified team roster that starts us out with a team like that or would you want to start with the actual team and then be tasked with trading for that type of player?

I would say trade for that type of players if possible, unless it's too hard to get the trades, because then we won't have exactly the same team.

Forced to trade for those type of players or only allowed to trade for them? Also, forced to draft only that type of player?

Forced to make sure you only have those types of players imo, so both trade and draft... But maybe it gets too hard unless the team starts with enough players from the correct region, i'm not sure, haven't checked it out at all.

Maybe there's a better way to do it though, not sure.

HAve to say..I liked those expansion ones, where we set up the polls as to who would be on the team. But those were a ton of work.

Those were expansion ones were fun too. We could try another one of those some time. We'd have to go back to our older rule set (or some variation of it) for that though.

I wonder how hard it would be to do a challenge with only US-born players. For some reason, the St. Louis Blues stick out to me as a team for that because they always seem to have good US players. I haven't really looked into it. I'm wondering who else might be a good choice?

Rangers have a solid US core, maybe it's too good tho?

Most likely. Then again, you'd have to trade away their stud goaltender.

Otherwise i'm fine with Ottawa too, they have some solid Ontario guys in Methot, Ceci and Hoffman and then some decent depth guys aswell. I think they are the Canadian team best equipped for this challenge. Other American possibilities apart from Rangers include, Buffalo (build around Eichel :), Canes (too easy? they have 6+ American D-men already), Columbus (maybe too easy aswell, you start with a first pairing D-man and a full top line), Red Wings (might be the best option? lots of decent players but no stud), Minnesota (too easy with Suter+Parise?) and Nashville (decent American core with Jones as the stand out, several bottom 9 players).

I only skimmed through though so maybe i missed a good Canadian option?

Dallas almost got no USA born players, that would be interesting.
Or maybe go the other way and create a "Europe Unions" with only Euro players?

Definitely some interesting ideas from both of you.

I know we used Buffalo not too too long ago but there is definitely an appeal to rebuilding around Eichel.

I also like the idea of an all Euro team. There's some possibilities there!

Either an US or all Euro would be very interesting (and maybe at some point only a specific part of Canada) to me and I think drafting would be fun. Imagine doing terrible in your first season, winning the lottery (which has happened quite a bit in the challenges lately) and then having to pick the 5th or 6th ranked guy because the top picks aren't in the region you can draft from.
