I think he was just trying to put him down on the ice by putting is leg this way but it end up in a weird situation. Don't forget that Crosby loves to be nominated at the Oscar ceremony for the best drama scene.

I cant beleive Ovechkin got a misconduct for that hit!! It was a 2 minute minor at most. I wouldnt be suprised if He gopt suspended. Gary bettmen just wants Ovechkin to be oyut so crosby wins the scoring race. Why do you think cooke wasnt suspended. Its because Bettmen loves the penguins and Crosby.

Ovechkin hit Campbell at the point where Campbell has no time to react and brace himself. None. At a totally horrible place on the ice. Bad timing, PUSHED him with two hands not a normal hit...and was blind side. IMO could be suspendable, but if it happens in open ice...he gets at most 2 minutes. Worst place ever to hit someone.
BTW--Suspending Ovenchicken is just as likely to allow Henrik Sedin to win the scoring race as it is Crosby. So I hardly doubt it has anything to do with that. Come on.
BTW #2--How are the Sens? Still gonna get to Cup Final? Man they looked awesome in Vancouver and calgary.

Sorry I wasnt clear I meant goal scoring race AND the sens are just....well.....I cant really explain it. I am a little perplexed. They will find there rythm again........I hope.

Hmm... Ducks season... Pretty much over... Begin to tank... Top 10 pick...
Selanne injured his upper body after smashing himself into the boards. And Getzlaf has reinjured the ankle he hurt before the Olympic break... If only we had Peter Holland and Kyle Palmieri to replace them now...

That suspension is BS. Ovie got suspended because the NHL screwed up with the Cooke situation and wanted to send a message. The Game Misconduct was already harsh. Although the two games are meaningless against Florida and Carolina so he's just taking a couple games off.
Guess this means pushing people from behind is illegal but headshots are perfectly fine this season! Great message sent to the rest of the league Bettman!

NO that suspension is not BS as you call it. Wow...the offense may have been borderline, but it was definitely suspendable. IMHO the Cooke one was as well, but they were two different types of plays. You cannot say you don't suspend Ovechkin just because you do not suspend Cooke.
That is almost the lamest comment I have read on this board. But not quite...somebody has Ovenchicken in his pool or is a closet Caps fan. Either way, missing Ovenchicken for 2 games is not going to hurt the Caps or your pool that much (unless you had 1st pick and took Ovenchicken, and then proved you are not good enough at drafting after the obvious choice was made)

I think the game misconduct was still not even deserved and 2 games is way to much.

pathetic. Talk about guys who buy into what the league and the media guys like Kypreos has been saying. If that were someone like Chris Neil or Sean Avery on that check every single person would be clamouring for 40 games. Sorry, but that hit is a bad hit. Not horrible, but bad. Deserved 2 games as anywhere else on the ice would have not injured Campbell. But where it occured is extremely dangerous and Ovenchicken has to know that. Perfect call.
Clearly another closet Caps fan, or has Ovenchicken in the pool he is in. That is the only reasonable explanation for someone angry he is suspended.

I've got him in my pool.

But with 96 pts in only 61 games I wouldn't complain about that two game.

You need to face what you've done anyway, that 2 games is ok. As I said earlier, if Campbell will have fall the head straight into the board, it would have been really really dangerous, maybe as Bergeron back in time.

Dont know why u are calling him "Ovenchicken". Crosby's the real chicken, unless you are using it in a differnet context.

If it wasn't from the dirty hits he've done this season. Think he could be a good exemple for young kids. Having fun when you do your favorite sport, give your 110% each game and having a good determination is the thing a hockey player should have.

Chill out a bit. We're all entitled to our opinions. I respect your comments but no need to attack mine (and philou's). I am not the only one defending Ovechkin for the hit on this planet. Some will say Ovie is just finishing his check. Others will say since Campbell passed the puck already Ovie could have avoided him. Either way, the issue has been dealt with and we'll all move on. I think by you calling Ovie 'Ovenchicken', you're more of a Ovie-hater (don't take it personally, I'm still new here. I am just stating what I see on the boards since my arrival). I guess Babcock's comments about the hit are lame too eh? Maybe Babcock's a closest Caps fan too?
1) I skipped out on fantasy hockey this year because the guys over at SI refused to let me join (it's okay guys! I'll try again next season

). I still haven't checked out fantasy hockey over here at TBL but I will probably join next season.
2) I'm not a Caps fan, but I personally think Ovie is the most exciting hockey player on this planet (note I didn't say 'best' or 'greatest active hockey player', just exciting. Because the number 1 goal that stands out since I became a hockey fan is Washington at Phoenix, with Crosby's goal in the Gold Medal game at the Olympics not too far behind). That's my opinion and if you can persuade me otherwise, then go ahead.
And to
Reggie Dunlop, I will say this: I have never seen a player in my 18 year old life so excited after scoring a goal. He plays the game hard and gives it his all every shift. He's a physical player who doesn't back down. If you hit him, he'll come back right at you. Was his knee-on-knee check bad? Yeah. Do I think he needs to control himself on the ice? Yes. But as a whole he's what you want from a hockey player.

rancer890 thanks for trying to defend me but I can deal with it myself.

Anyway I don't feel attack by Batdad in that conversation.

I didn't see a place where he is attacking me, I feel bad for DJP19 though.

What I'd like to know is what makes Ovechkin's hit "two-games" worse than the Mike Richards and Matt Cooke hits?
I don't know, whatever... I'm just completely failing to see the logic behind the discipline this year.
...A freight train to the face is fine, but a shove into the boards is over the top.

I agree rancer. He is very exciting. Even though he is an offensive threat he still will hit you hard and thats what a lot of people like about him. Batdad, its okay, you have your opinion and everyone else has theres.

Even the players in the NHL are confused.

I think that maybe just the fact that Ovy has make his hit near the board make the suspension, like Batdad was saying. I know that Richards and Cooke hit was as dangerous as this one but it's just a stupid decision by the league.

Tha fact is that those hits were on open ice and the Ovy's one was near the board. Maybe that's the logic

Hard to guess

Oh haha. I came back from uni. My eyes were tired from all that typing.
B. Stinson, Bettman and Co. don't use logic in any decisions. Just look at the expansion to the South, the lockout, and the TV deal with Versus as examples!

Stinson--Ovenchicken 's hit is not worse than Cooke's, nor is it worse than Richards. It is just different in 2 ways, which lead to suspension.
1. A different place on the ice. The player making the hit must be more aware of what he is doing and where he is, just as the player taking the hit must be. Campbell not expecting a hit, because Ovi not in position to deliver a body check...
2. Ovenchicken's "hit" is not a HIT. It is a push. In both the cases of Richards and Cooke the main part of the body that makes contact is the shoulder. Yes..Cooke followed through with the elbow, and I believe I said should be suspended for that. Richards...clean hit by the rules as they stand now. In the future...not so much.
Others--The league has to start somewhere. They DEFINITELY screwed up on Cooke and may have (still not really sure) on Richards. They did not on Ovenchicken. Ovenchicken DID NOT HIT Campbell. He shoved him with two hands. Totally different. Had Ovechkin got in position to make the hit...Campbell may have been more ready. As it was Ovechkin was not in position to make a shoulder check and Campbell felt he did not have to be ready for one. It could not happen from the positions. A 1/2 second later, or a little later...and it could have...and Campbell may have been ready.
Ovenchicken--instead of Ovechkin because the dude is dirty.

"Alex pushed [Campbell]. He pushed him. If he doesn't fall awkwardly into the boards, a) Is it a penalty? b) Are we having this discussion? ... Alex is so much stronger than everyone else. So we're penalizing him for being strong."
That is what Bruce Boudreau had to say.
Posted: Tue Mar 16, 2010 4:24 pm
by batdad
As Boudreau said it has something to do with strength. But who needs to be aware of that strength and the consequences of that strength? Last time I checked...that should be Ovi. He should know what happens when he shoves a guy...and especially in that spot on the ice. Don't go blaming others. Ovi's got to know. Bad spot on the ice, me stronger...me should not do.
And yes..it wuold be a penalty if the game is called right in other spots on the ice. It is not a body check, it is a push. Since when is pushing legal in hockey? Could be interference, could be roughing...call it what you want. Illegal check anywhere on the ice. But in the middle of the ice..the result would not be as bad. Just like I have said. Probably not suspendable if not in that spot.
But sorry..no excuses. Ovi must be more aware of the situation and the strength.
For those who do not think Ovenchicken is a predator..watch that youtube I posted. Closely. Defend all of those too?
Knee on knee, hits from behind, slew foot, shove from behind...yep sounds like Crosby is the chicken to me. Come on. Cheap, chicken style, dirty hits..
Don't get me wrong..Ovechkin is one hell of a player. Just has to stop the stupidity. Or he will end people's careers, and could wind up ending his own way early.

Methinks is not a problem of this hit being worse, or this suspension being unfair. The problem is the previous incidents were not penalized as they should. I don't know about the Richards hit as I don't think I've ever seen that, but Cooke's elbow on Savard was a nasty, horrible thing. Intentional, too. That deserved a lengthy suspension.
