Adding a few others:
Evgeny Varlamov - This guy is a 29 year old D-man in Russia. I found him by accident, and giving him what he asks for (which isn't much really) gets him to come over to the NHL during the next transfer window. I figure at 30, he will give me a good 3-4 years before age catches up to him. I have never played long enough to find out yet, but the first year he plays for me, the guy is a beast!! I pair him with Lidstrom and he logs 30 minutes a game with a decent rating of around 7.5 - 8.0. A good compliment to Nick, this guy hits hard and is a nice stay at home defenseman.
Drew Fata - another D-man, this guy actually does a decent job of filling in for injuries and as a 5th/6th defenseman.
Tyler Wright - even though he is older, I can still get a couple of years out of him and he is a great penalty killer. I have a checking line of Maltby/Draper/Wright that really does an excellent job of shutting down the opposition's top line. Best of all, Wright will sign for the league minimum of $450k for two years.

Average attributes but always plays a solid Avg:8.00+ Points:80+ on the 1st or 2nd (I mostly play him here) and a 50-70 points on the 3rd (depending on role).
I don't know why really but he always ends up lots hits hits as a bonus!
Rights are easly traded for scrap and really low salary.

I don't know why he always plays way over his potential, the scouts rarely rates him higher then 3rd liner Dunno .The Forsberg Fan wrote:

Maybe it's his size combined with his technical skills and it can also be some hidden stats (which I don't whant to check).
My scouts, in my Coyotes game, finaly ranks him as a 2nd liner after 4 straight superb seasons on a rebuilding team that reached the PO for the first time last season. Sadly he asks for quite big money to resign now, but well, he have earned it as always.

Hi all. Some questions about resigning an older veteran player. I am playing the Redwings with Lidas 1.3. The link points to the beginning of my problem. Lidstrom wanted something like 35 million for a season or two.
This was when he became unhappy and wanted to extend his contract. When I first took over the team he was making 6 or 7 million each season, then I signed him to a two year contract at about 4million each season.
The link points to the beginning of my problem. At the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010 Lidstrom wanted something like 35 million for a season or two. My board said no way 1.9 million was the limit. I made varying offers but now he has 'no interest' in joining the Wings. He is 42 years old. No one else has made an offer. He won't tryout for the team either.
I am afraid I won't get to retire his jersey but I have never had the opportunity in any save before anyways. Suspending the disbelief I am trying to play it as realistic as possible. But it doesn't seem like it. Can you imagine this actually happening?
Has anyone had this happen with a company guy like that? He practically is the redwings. Do I have a chance to re-sign him as a 5-6 dman or even retire his jersey?
Thanks.

I am surprised he's still playing at the age of 42. But he must be very tired now, just let him retire.
If I got it right, he became unhappy because you were not extanding his contract, right? Why did you not give him a new contract earlier (while he was still happy)? At the age of 42 he's not playing really well, unless you edited him. I guess he wouldn't demand much money.

His jersey is retired automatically when the game decides so. You cannot be involved into it. His jersey can be retired only if he has been WHOLE his NHL career with your team. He cannot became UFA nor RFA during career even single day.markiemark66 wrote:Has anyone had this happen with a company guy like that? He practically is the redwings. Of course I made several attempts to resign him before the end of the season. Maybe too many times but always the response was: contract rejected. He just would not sign and I wasn't going to pay him alot of cash for failing skills. I try to resign my big guys way before the end of the season.
I didn't edit the db. Lidstrom had passed 1000 points during the season and maybe that made him want way too much $. He played his whole career at Detroit but he walked away at the beginning of July so I don't entertain anymore hopes. Thanks.

Mark Streit.
This guy is never a good offensive defenseman. I never am able to generate offense from him and it seems the minute i dump him, for a younger defenseman, my team gets better.
His AR is usually below 7 for me.
He also makes really dumb passes.
Has anyone had any luck with this Swiss born rear guard?

You jacked with the salary cap. That can throw things out of whack.markiemark66 wrote:Hi all. Some questions about resigning an older veteran player. I am playing the Redwings with Lidas 1.3. Hey, I played with the default database or, not Lidas I think, with Färjestad BK, I had him with 30+61 in one season on SEL, can't have a screenshot because it was on my old thinkpad, but he is great! The Forsberg Fan wrote:Hi guys ! My two go-to guys are:
Cam Keith (as Sucker Punch mentioned) for your AHL team, surprisingly good, consistent, etc.
Shane O'Brien: in my franchise with the original rosters he had an average rating of around 8 each season, and in the season I just finished with Lidas 2.0 he was over 7.5. Not too many points, lots of PIM, but just good solid presence in the back end, also--he shows up to play in the playoffs. And good salary at ~1.7m (and then RFA)

Depends on what you do to the cap though. Just increasing/lowering it shouldn't throw things out of whack. I have never had any problems with it anyways....Richie Daggers Crime wrote:You jacked with the salary cap. That can throw things out of whack.markiemark66 wrote:Hi all. I'm playing with NYR Rangers on the newest Lidas DB in the 09/10 season. My top lines are
1. Sean Avery - Olli Jokinen - Ryan Callahan
2. Vinny Prospal - Dubinsky - Marian Gaborik
After getting rid of Chris Drury (big contract in game and horrible in real life) I feel like my top lines are somewhat without firepower, but still okay. The problems start when one of those guys gets injured (atm I'm in a losing streak because 3 of those guys are injured at the same time).. I need a cheap and effective winger! Who should I get!?
I play with finesse tactics.

Hey all. This is part question, part survey, part grounds for discussion.
When do you re-sign your players in last year of contract? Pre-season, mid-season, around Christmas?
My first year as an EHM:er (with the Calgary Flames) I only had fringe players in last year, so I waited until February to offer Friesen (rejected) and Lombardi (accepted after some haggling) new contracts. However, this year I have Iginla, Kiprusoff, Phaneuf and a few other key players coming up for renewal, so I want to get it right.
Would you say the timing of the contract renewal offer matter on the possibility of accepting? Can players get upset and feel under-appreciated over not getting an offer early on in the last season?

For sure the timing matter. Sometimes your offer can be rejected during the season and accpted in June, even for less money.
On the other hand, I try to sign my star players as soon as possible, usually during January or around that. If they want to sign in that time, there's no reason to wait, unless you are dissatisfied with the salary.
Fringe players sometimes do troubles with signing two way contracts, but they finally agree during June. Or if they become RFA, then they sign during off-season, too. No problem.
But there are certain exceptions in every situation
