Well, this season was a resounding success! I won my 1st ever EHM Stanley Cup! and San Antonio won the Calder, yay!

San Antonio's board, off a 68 win season, wants me to improve their roster, LOL

I liked both, Stumpel and Palffy.

Pretty impressive numbers. More then one point per game avarage and not many penalties.

I always like Palffy, too - I had no idea he played for so long... I remember him being great, and then POOF! vanished

of course, now I notice he went to LA , which of course IS vanishing for us on the east coast, lol

So I finally finished regular season with astonishing last segment 16-3-3. Now onto the playoffs!

I got that that too. My San Antonio team won the Calder Cup and finished third in the league during the regular season. But they just want me to improve the team. My Jets board expects me to contend for the Cup again.

I'm a bit worried about this second season. I just looked at Selanne and while he's still as skilled as ever, his physical attributes don't look so hot.

ACC - 16 - 13
AGI - 15 - 16
BAL - 15 - 16
SPD - 17 - 15
STA - 14 - 12
STR - 11 - 10

So even though his Agility and Balance have gotten a little better, Selanne's Acceleration, Speed, Stamina, and Strength have all decrease. What a difference a year can make. I don't think I should count on him to be able to make the same kind of impact that he did in season 1.


Oh and I've made my UFA signings for season 2. I went Tier II and signed Rhett Warrener and Kyle Calder each to contracts paying $1.4M per season. Warrener allows me to replace Montador at RD (even though his attributes looked improved since starting the game) and continue my trend of adding toughness to my defense. Calder gives me a veteran utility winger that has some speed and well rounded abilities. He can play a two-way game. If I need him to he can fill in on one of the top 2 lines if there are injuries and he'll actually make a good contribution.

So I've made my UFA signings and one of my two trades (Gagner and Stralman for Chara and Stuart). That leaves me one more trade which, I might try to use as soon as the No Trade period ends or maybe I'll hold on to it and wait for the trade deadline?

When the Hockey News Season Preview was released, they had us ranked #2 behind the Red Wings.

Red Wings eliminated me from play offs in the 2nd round. Oh well, time to get ready for season 2! San Antonio is still in fight for the Calder Cup. I am resigning depth players, and slowly reaching the draft and summer. Expecting to do a couple of moves, two skilled defensmen and an experienced 2nd line centre is what I am looking for.

I traded Craig Weller and Steve Montador to Calgary for Mikael Backlund.

I also traded Shawn Thornton and Kyle Chipchura to the Bruins for Mark Stuart and Justin Abdelkader

I like the Kopecky and the Brashear signings. You get a balanced two-way player and a fighter that will put the puck in the net every so often.

I was able to win the Calder Cup with San Antonio (my first non-UHL EHM title), after finishing 4th in the Western Division, sweeping Bridgeport in the Finals. Dayton lost in 4 to Cincinnati in the first round and Arizona didn't make the playoffs.

I signed a couple of older players using Tier-II, Rob Niedermayer and Mathieu Schneider and then pulled off a pretty good trade in my opinion, sending Stralman and Gagner to the Edmonton Oilers for Sheldon Souray and Ethan Moreau. I'll probably be looking to the East for another deal later on in the season.

For some reason, I felt lost with this draft (guess I drafted a LOT later than I usually do )...

Good job getting Drew Shore in the 2nd round. How does he project in your game? He was my 1st round pick in my game and the only one worth a 1st round pick by the time it got to my pick (30th). Vey on the other hand got taken in the 3rd round (by the Flyers) in my game but based on what my scouts said, he didn't look worth a 7th round pick.

Good job getting Samuelsson with the last pick. I was afraid to wait that long to draft him. I figured with all of the other teams drafting all over the place that somebody might take him if I waited. I ended up taking him in the 5th round.

Nice trade for Arnott! He's a little old but he's a great talent. He was amazing for me in the Predators challenge. He's somebody I would've gone after (and he definitely fits the type of center that I want) but I didn't want to use him again since I had just played with him.

Vaananen is a really good signing! He's who I signed as a UFA in my first off-season in the Predators challenge. He'll add some toughness and defense to this Jets team.

Just thought I'd post my signing and trades and see what you all thought of them.
Like a couple people I ended up getting Derek Morris in free agency. Then I traded Hilbert, Steen, and Talbot for Parise. I also dealt Ference, Keith, and Mair for Bouwmeester. While I liked Keith and what he could do for his cap hit JayBo was too much to pass up. As for Mair, Hilbert, Ference, and Talbot? All 4 had found a way out of the lineup so they were throwins. Steen was my 4th line center at the time. I still have enough depth in case something happens its just now getting playing time in SA. Here are my lines:

Ummm... thunderbug... do you happen to have a backup save going back to before these trades were made? The rules changed on trading and you broke them, twice. The new rules only allow 2 players per side for a total of 4 players involved. 2 in and 2 out max. We found that trading was too easy last time when we were allowed to do 4 players total.

6.11 You may make a maximum of two trades per season. In each trade, a maximum of four players may be included (this includes both the players traded to your team and from your team). Up to two players can be included on each side. Trades of 1-1, 2-1, and 2-2 are all allowed. Trades of 3-1 are not allowed.

Good. I'm glad you had a backup. Otherwise we'd have to figure out penalties.

You might want to go back and give the rules another read through, just to be safe.

I can't believe I missed that, wow. I always have a backup as I hate it when a game goes corrupt. So I have one of each quarter and 2 I switch back and forth between when playing games so that I normally never have to replay more than 1 game if something were to happen.

I'm not quite a thorough with my backups but I do keep 1 backup that goes to the last segment I reported.

Like I said, I'm just glad you had the backup. I don't like giving out penalty points. It's hard figuring out what is fair in regards to the rules that have been broken.

I agree and really hesitated over getting Arnott - but he was the only top-line center I could actually get, and I wanted top-line or nothing (if I was going to get less, I'd stick with what I had) - and I didn't get to play nearly enough with the Preds as I wanted to

I toyed with putting Tkachuk in at C, but he's starting to slow down - much like Selanne for you... the playoffs seem to really have worn out Tkachuk, Selanne and Pahlsson

Vey projects out to be key player, 120 pts - more talented version of Rod Brind'Amour... while Drew seems not as good as he seems in your game - 2nd line? but I took him because he's got all the right stats, and has all As & Bs for grades - by far the most complete at the end of the 2nd round.

My first UFA choice was Bullion (kinda glad I didn't get the ex-Hab, really, but I've never used him), but he disappeared pretty quick. I overpaid, but lots of teams thought he was a good pickup . I usually go for farm depth in the 1st offseason, but we don't really need that.

Tkachuk is slowing down in my game too. After training camp and the preseason I've had to keep him on General training only and move him to the second line or he get too tired after games. Pahlsson has been a maniac centering the second line with Tkachuk on his LW and either Brouwer or Selanne (sometimes Selanne is just too tired) on his RW. Pahlsson is leading the league in scoring at a very early stage (like 7 ot 8 games in).

Pahlsson is actually pretty productive in my game as well. Playing 2nd/3nd line centre + PP + PK, no surprise really. I wanted to do draft and start off-season yesterday at night, but instead played AOE 2 with my friend, and playing guitar. Hopefully I can do it today. Really looking forward to what Mr. Manger Timura can do
