You can't sign Turris, sorry, he became a free agent in my game as well. You are not allowed to sign a UFA less than 24 years old.

This is correct:
7.3 Players must be at least 24 years of age at the time of signing to qualify as a UFA signing.

Just noticed this Johnny - hope you have a backup from before you made your UFA signing. Turris is ineligible as your UFA signing because he is not 24.
****EDIT: thanks for catching this and posting the link to the rules tksolway and joe.

Not doing so hot in my second season... Staz, Wolski and Anderson missed time with injures. traded Chris Stewart and Marty Sertich to the Kings for Jack Johnson, the Kings release Sertich right away after giving him 4 stars in the trade... Johnson is hurt for basically the season so its not helping me this year, but he should be a big presence on the blueline in the future.

Wow! I might get fired. The last 3 games I have played:
Colorado 0 Columbus 4
Colorado 0 St Louis 1 (shootout at least)
Colorado 0 Vancouver 6
My only excuse? Hejduk and Hannan are injured. Hejduk is out for four months. This team is really trouble.

Wow. This team cannot score. My defensive tactics are working though. In addition to the three shutouts against me...I have 5 of my own. Two by Anderson, three by Budaj. Budaj is emerging as the starter...He will play 2 Anderson 1, until it needs to change.
In my 5 shutouts I have a record of 4-0-1 (shootout loss to St Louis). In those five games I have scored a GRAND TOTAL of 6 goals.
1-0 over Edmonton (Game 4-Anderson)
1-0 over LA (Game 9-Budaj)
0-1 shootout loss to StL (Game 13-Budaj)
2-0 over Nashville (Game 16-Budaj)
2-0 over Minnesota (Game 20-Anderson)
My highest offensive output came in the game vs Ottawa---5 goals. I have only scored 4 on two other occasions, both versus Minnesota.
I miss Hejduk, yet am still winning.

The trade might be invalid as well, unless Shattenkirk was signed at least one year before the deal was made. At the start of the game, Shattenkirk is an unsigned prospect.

I signed Shattenkirk day one, so that trade should be fine.
I hope that I do have a back up file, if not what is the penalty, or am i just simply disqualified?

What the hell batdad, how do you get your teams to play defense like that? Your PK is just sick, no matter what I do to mine it seems to only get worse compared to the default tactics. Wanna trade PK for PP tactics?

Nah I'm just kidding, I prefer to figure things out on my own.
It's cool to see that we had identical records for the first 20 with what seems to be two entirely different approaches to the tactics though, yet another reason to love this game.

So you signed Shattenkirk on 30-Aug-2006? Then you can't trade him before 30-Aug-2007. Is this your case?

I just got a pretty good game out of Stastny in a 11-2 blowout vs the Kings,
2G 6A.

Wrapped up the next set of 10 with a 7-3-0 record, my PK is better with a few tweaks but my PP is worse so I'll try to go back to what worked well in the first 20.
Hejduk, Stastny and Wolski are top three in league scoring so I can't ask for much more from them. The fourth line is still doing well, or atleast it was until Koci and new C Hendricks ended up on IR. Koci has 2G 11A +10, Stewart 6G 9A +8, Hendricks 2G 1A +6 (11GP). Willsie and Stoa will step in for about a week and a half.
I might try Duchene on the second line for the next set of 10 but that would leave me without a checking line unless I switch Duchene and Durno instead of Duchene and Hensick. Duchene-Hensick-Svatos lacks a physical edge though so I'm not crazy about that idea, not to mention that Durno's skating is really to weak to be an effective checker. Maybe I'll just switch them for road games and hope the AI doesn't match lines well.
Interesting to see that Anderson (12-1-2) only has one loss while Budaj (9-6-0) has the better SV% and AvR. Budaj seems to be good one night and not the next for me, his SV% in a stretch of 7 games with Anderson injured was .892, .917, .875, .974, .875, .963, .750.

Let's figure out if you have that backup first.
Also, when did you make the Kovalchuk trade? As McQwak said, you can't trade Shattenkirk until 1 year after the day he joined your team. So if he joined your team on September 1st, you wouldn't be able to trade him until September 1st. Of course, you'd have to wait until the trade window opens up on October 15th.

I just want to remind everyone to please READ THE CHALLENGE RULES! It's easy to make mistakes if you don't read the rules carefully, especially if this is your first challenge.
Play it safe and print out the cheat sheet. Keep it handy while you're playing.
The cheat sheet can be found HERE.
Also, please make sure to post links to each individual screenshot. Do not post the actual pictures or a link to an album. From this point on, your stats will not be accepted unless your screenshots are posted with links to each individual screenshot.

In my game the Leafs just traded Tomáš Kaberle to the Coyotes for rights to one Michael Stone. How crazy is that?
](./images/smilies/wallbash.gif)
The guy IRL was drafted #69 overall in 2008, and my scouts all rate him as having potential for the 3rd defensive pairing at best. Am I missing something? Or maybe Lidas just managed to create the in-game Burke as accurately as possible?

No. as I said previously, he is fine to be trades. I have completed two seasons. Shattenkirk had been under contract for me for roughly 20 months when I traded him.

so when the rules say "no unsigned PROSPECT" can be traded in or out at anytime,
what about those players whose rights are still owned by an nhl team,
but who certainly arent prospects anymore ie. Nikulin (Atlanta), Koltsov (Vancouver), or those good 27yr old russin goalies...
I'm sorry if this question has already been asked...
I just need to know the parameters of "unsigned prospect"....
I don't want to trade for Linus Omark, and then realize I need to start over...
Thanks

Pretty confident that any unsigned player is an unsigned prospect. You can not trade for anyone who is not signed to an NHL contract. Ill let someone else confirm, because obviously I have issues with rules too

, but I am very confident that that is the case.

So right now it's just the Turris signing, right? Shattenkirk was eligible to trade at the time? If that's the case, maybe we can work something out. Just put your game on hold for now. I want to discuss it with some of the other mods before disqualifying you from the challenge. I know that if you are allowed to continue, you'd definitely have to release Turris. There's no question about that. And there would surely be a point penalty involved. There might be more but I want to discuss it with the others.

First off, let's keep any future challenge rules questions in the appropriate thread. The thread we're in now if for discussing the challenge itself.
This is the appropriate thread for challenge rule questions...

To answer your question, an "unsigned prospect" is a player who's rights are owned by another team but is not currently under contract to that team. The reason they are referred to as "unsigned prospects" in the rules is because that's the filter you must use to see them when you're looking at a team.

Yup. The trade was never an issue.
Let me know whatever I need to do to move forward, im cool with it. Turris has played 3 games for me so far as an FYI.
