Wow wasn't expecting that ending after the first period. Nice game as always between both team! They need to be motivated like this for the rest of the tournament.

So. Canada plays Swiss. If they win they get the winner of fin-Czech.
See Philou? Silver. Like I said. Hi Tasku.

Primis wrote:USA only returned I think 3 guys from last year's team. So no, they don't have a ton of studs back. They actually have a very new group. Expectations have been fairly low because of that.batdad wrote:This was just based on the fact that last years medal teams (Sweden and USA) both have a ton of studs back.
Fucale and Paterson are not that good. Canadian goaltending is not that good in general quite frankly.
Paterson plays for Saginaw in the OHL and is DET property. He faces tons of shots every night for Saginaw. I honestly wonder if that doesn't hurt him here at the WJC. I don't know who you'd send if not Paterson and Fucale though...
Three is a ton in my opinion. LOL.
Jarry is doing pretty darn well in WHL. Others out there....but Fucale was amazing today and proved as the right choice even though that softy off his glove for 2nd goal. Americans just looked...not good today. I mean CAnada could not complete a pass for most of the game and still managed to win.
USA-Swe possible semi final. Ouch for both teams.

I haven't been following. I have a lot on my plate right now. No time for hockey. Will watch the olympinks though. Of course I will!batdad wrote:So. Canada plays Swiss. If they win they get the winner of fin-Czech.

My partner decided to take a nap with our son so I got to take in the Swe-Rus game!
That saying the Swedes had a superb first period versus the Russians. Then the Russians came back well and they have a good defensive game IMO.
Weird, it is usually the Swedes who are great defensively and the Russians offensively
I am afraid that is a good situation for the US. Sweden has a great offensive game but their defence seems often very passive, espescially on the PK. The good skating americans can take that to their avantage, however the puck posessing and passing of the Swedes look awesome at timesbatdad wrote:USA-Swe possible semi final. Ouch for both teams.

So Russia beat USA. Now I'm watching Finland vs. Czech Rep. First period 1-1. Finland just had almost 2 minutes 5 vs 3 PP, it didn't go that well.

But we won nevertheless! 1-3 to 5-3 reminded me of the 2010 Olympics.
Too bad the next opponent is most likely going to be Canada!

Well Canada didn't lose, so I expect nothing unusual. Russia at least has one of the best goalies in the tournament so I think that may explain something.

Yeah..was not actually expecting Sweden to lose...more of a joke as it was surprising to see the USA go out so early. But hey....
Canada-Finland
Sweden (most likely)-Russia
should be two pretty darn good games. Canada seems to have got their act together again. Not sure....that they can beat the Swedes though...in fact doubt they can. Finland will also give them a good run, and should be a tight game. Finnish goalies have had their issues though, just like Canada.
Also....think it is amazing that Brent Sutter is now 16-0-1 as Canada U20 head coach. Only loss was shootout loss to the now out of tournament Czechs this year.

Re: 2013-14 World Junior (U20 for the Euros here)
Honestly, Russia is one of the most talented U20 teams but I hate them. They have absolutely no sportsmanship and their behavior is just disgraceful. Their celebrations are too arrogant and cocky, they taunt other teams and worst of all, they think all of this is okay, even the coaches. From a Canadian, as I watched the Canada-Russia bronze medal game from last year I was disgusted to see the Russians parade in front of the Canadian bench after every single goal. I was glad to see Boone Jenner refuse to shake their hands. And despite many Russian NHL players calling them out, they did it again in the Russia-USA game, and what was worse was that the coach encouraged it, even going as far as taunting as well. They may claim that's their culture and how they play but that's complete rubbish. Celebrating a goal is okay, but taunting and gesturing to the other team is not. This behavior is unacceptable and has no place in any sport even such a fired up one as hockey.

Re: 2013-14 World Junior (U20 for the Euros here)
Meh. American cry babies today. Guy did nothing really horrible. Happens all the time, and it is about time some exciting flair to the game and excitement to score makes it way in.
I am a crusty old guy...and quite honestly...I find the guys who like to score and whoop it up when they do fun to watch. yep that includes Ovenchicken.
sure...sometimes you want to pound them...and go ahead and do so. Just not from the bench when you lose a game. American cry babies, just like they always are when they lose.
(Not that Canada is always perfect, trust me...I rip them for being cry babies too).
As for Jenner--sorry...shake hands baby....There are just as many idiotic American, Canadian and players from other countries who like to bury you when you are down and whoop it up. (Ahem...Bobby Ryan..Phil Kessel...big super braggarts back in their junior days, and they choked it out in the end. Ryan Miller? LOL. Patrick Kane celebrates with the best and is as cocky as all get out.
So the American babies whining should look at their heroes, and some of these guys would have been the first to do it to the Russians. Sour grapes. Go cry somewhere else.
Same goes for Canada...if they pull the rubbish that the Yanks did...I will quickly remind them of certain braggart celebrating Canadians who are a little too excited when they score, or a little too over the top....

Let me guess, you're Russian. Jumping, fist pumps, dives, is fine, but skating up to the opponent's bench and mocking them like that isn't. As for what you said about players getting out of it as they mature, the Russian coach taunted the other team too. Chirping at the other team if they've done an illegal hit or something controversial is alright but taunting them after you score is too far.

Re: 2013-14 World Junior (U20 for the Euros here)
LOL...far from Russian my friend far from it. Actually old time old school Canadian hockey man who is completely sick and tired of guys having fun being criticized for it.
It was not the coach...it was the trainer my friend...as shown and reported 1 time only by TSN.
Chirping and being silly is all part of growing up in the game. The player (as all do for doing it) get their comeuppance for their behaviors eventually.
it is like I said...legally destroy and nail the guy for doing it, but don't be a chicken baby and reach from the bench with your stick. Get out and hit him hard next time you play (which may be never happens), but wow....defending a guy reaching out onto the ice with his stick..... and as for me ...should probably do your looking around the site so you know what you speak of. Russian...LOL.
Welcome to TBL by the way. Latest in a long line to disagree with me. Hope you actually stick around like Primis.
And BTW---Philou is a big Habs fan. In love with Daniel BRiere and is probably crying that the latest smurf is a scratch again.

Re: 2013-14 World Junior (U20 for the Euros here)
Meh, I'd say Finland could be Canada's second or third team in the tournament if we don't count the goalies.
Seriously, I think every player in Canada's team would fit our first line if I'm not forgetting someone. Husso had a bad game against Slovakia but I have more trust in Saros: he was drafted last Summer and was more expected to shine this season, though neither of our goalies that much as they have in the Liiga. I'd go as far as saying Saros is our biggest goalie promise since Rask.
(atm at least) Just hoping he gets enough time on ice in HPK, luckily Frans Tuohimaa seems to fail every time he gets the chance to play as the first goalie.

Terovainen scares the rubbish out of me. That kid is a freaking wizard with the puck. And the fact that he is a Blackhawk. Sorry but some other teams were sleeping. That kid in the 4 times i have seen him since the draft has impressed me every single time.
But not as much as that ridiculously talented Swedish team. Wow.

Yeah, we have a good generation here (Sweden)
May i scare you and say we might have an even better one coming in 2 years with Kylington, Nylander and those guys.
edit: It's obviously hard to predict how the kids are going to develop though, but the kids born 96-97 are insanely talented in Sweden.
