By your logic if you put almost any team in a back to back against "tough" teams (except for tough teams I assume) you aren't going anywhere, but if youre logic were correct, the "tough" teams would win out and only the "tough" teams would be left. Thereby making the Wings a "tough" team.

Yet the Pens and the wings both "soft" teams have won throughout the playoffs two seasons in a row, most likely due to the fact that the stars all aligned twice and they each got nothing but softies.

Not buying it, the Wings are the best team in the NHL as evidenced by the Cup traveling the globe with them, I could see an arguement that the overall NHL is down on talent, but my rebuttal would be that through the rules and officiating, the league has begun to favor puck posession, passing, and overall skill over hitting and crowding the crease endlessly. This is the hockey of the rest of the world creeping in on the classic North American hockey structure.

Also go tell Havlat that the wings are a soft team, then the ringing in his ears may go away.

I agree with your picks about top players, but your knock on Datsyuk dissapearing in the playoffs

Datsyuk?..Disappears in the playoffs, not overly physical either

He has always been what Zetterberg was tasked with against Crosby. Go out and stop the other teams top gun - so his role is mainly defensive, he still carries the puck constantly and keeps the puck in deep setting up plays. Just because he's not racking up G's and A's - he has far from disappeared. And he has really stepped up his physical game - did you see the hit on Malkin? He wins Lady Byngs and is always near the top in takeaways and points per minute of ice time.

Hey guys-

The original post for this thread was in 2006. Both Datsyuk and Zetterberg were not rated as highly in EHM because when the game came out, they were not the players they are now.

There is a hockey thread that you can go to if you want to talk about your favorite player(s), etc. here.

You should only talk about their EHM performance in this current thread... ;)

all i know is that the wings have a ton of players who dive or "sell it" ...but then again, almost every player does that now in the "New NHL". When a player gets touched and he doesn't have the puck, he falls and there is a penalty. DET has took advantage of this in the playoffs (actually so has PIT) but it works so i can't blame the players. It's just sad to see that diving is playing such a big role in hockey.

(yes i'm sure this was offtopic but had to get it off my chest :) )

It's funny reading how these players are overrated in 2006- actually that may of been true back then but it certainly isn't now.

As far as detroit being "tough" i'd say they are. They aren't afraid to be the first guy in the corner, they don't wussie out of battles, like i said before they do dive but it's been common these playoffs (sadly). Most of them aren't fighters and they don't really play the physical type game but when you have a team that skilled, you don't have too.

I've done a lot of work on them in my database. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with their performances.

Without getting too far off topic, the Wings are that good. They are a skill based team that Anaheim took to the brink based on physical play. The Wings as a team don't do a lot of hitting and Anaheim physically wore them out over the 7 games. When it became a skill vs skill matchup (Chicago), Detroit won out. Detroit's 2nd and 3rd lines would probably be a line higher on other teams.

Z and Pavel are two of the most well rounded players in the NHL. Datsyuk won the Selke last year (top defensive forward) and Draper has won it before as well. Z has 405 points in 432 games and +/- of 119. Pavel has 522 in 526 games and +/- of 159. Just about any team in the league would be happy to have one if not both of them on their top line. High skill, responsible on D, almost point per game production for their career....where do I sign up? :)

Okay, this thread has gone way off topic. It was started as a topic about two players in the game and it has devolved into something else entirely. I'm going to lock this thread. If anyone wishes to continue to discuss the real life Red Wings and it's players you can do so in the Hockey Talk Forum. There is a thread for the playoffs and since the Wings are still in the playoffs, that would be a good place to do so. If there is anyone who still wishes to discuss these players in EHM, please use the "Specific Outstanding Player" thread.
