FYI the forum might briefly go offline shortly. I'm patching the forums to the latest version.

It took a little longer, but it's now back online. I just need to sort out the navigation header.

FYI - for me, on the main/front page, the ON THE FORUM column on the right is now squished together (no spaces between entries) which I'm pretty sure is different than it was before & the thread titles/links don't "stand out" anymore (I think they used to, maybe I'm wrong)

Yes I think you might be right. Unfortunately there's no customisation settings for that section - it's a third party plugin for Wordpress which connects the home page to the forums. :-(

It's a similar issue with the table BBCode in the forums. The upgraded forum doesn't seem to readily support the table code we use and I cannot find a way around it. :-(

I have figured out how to fix tables! :joy: I need to sort out the padding/formatting of the cells but at least they are now appearing as intended.

Unfortunately this does not automatically update tables in existing posts. To fix them, you must edit the post and make at least one single change to the post (i.e. clicking Edit, making no change and then clicking Submit will not fix it). It can be as simple as adding a full stop/period or an extra blank line. When you re-submit the edited post, the table will be displayed correctly.

That's awesome Arch! :joy:

P.S. It's nice to see Parent in the banner :-)

EDIT - here's the first thread of mine that I've fixed viewtopic.php?f=110&t=16777

So here's my second attempt (first post in the thread) viewtopic.php?f=110&t=16776&p=213863#p213863

I added an extra period to "And here's my first compiled Player Role..."
I'm not sure why the top of the tables doesn't show properly; I tried putting a period in other places but nothing changed

EDIT - second post in thread, put a period at the top & similar results as above; tried a couple more posts (added EDIT at the top) but still having some issues

Thanks nino33. I believe I've fixed this now. I think the table cells could do with some borders, but at least they are up and running again. I reconstituted your tables down to your F_DEF_PHYSICAL table. It looks like there are some superfluous tags but I suspect that is an input error rather than an issue with the forum code.

Let me know if you come across any further issues.

This is just a minor thing, but I don't like how the author of the post is now on the right and the text on the left. It's easier to start from left to right: first see who wrote it, and then read the text. :-k

I don't like it either. The creators of the forum software made this change a number of years ago and I'm not sure why. Changing it back requires a manual change to the source code but unfortunately the last forum update overwrote the change. I need to sort out the margin/padding around the header image too. I'll sort them both out when I get a chance.

I figured it was probably due to the software. We have faith in you Arch! :-D

I thought it looked like an input error too...what seems odd about that idea is the tables were without input errors before (with the previous software), and I didn't actually input anything beyond adding a single period/word at the top of the post

EDIT - I'm noticing the tables viewtopic.php?f=110&t=16776&p=213863#p213863 are cutting off the right side of the table...

2ND EDIT - I've been working on this thread viewtopic.php?f=110&t=16787&p=214267#p214267 and everything was working/looking good until my July 17, 2016 post - it cuts off the far right column(s) when looking at CA at startup - All Players/Ages, by Nation & PA at startup - All Players/Ages, by Nation

Sorry I'm not following. Are you saying that columns are missing from display? If so, which ones are missing? Nothing leaps at my when I look at the tables. I might be due to the available screen size.

Yeah, for example for me the July 18, 2016 post...

In the "CA at startup - All Players/Ages, by Nation" table (shown on screen with 2 tables)...
Hungary cuts off (shows only Hu).
The table under it starts with Kazakhstan. I see no Iceland, Italy, Israel, or Japan
Switzerland cuts through the letter n. I see no nation after Switzerland, no Ukraine/USA

In "PA at startup - All Players/Ages, by Nation" table (shown on screen with 5 tables)...
Top table cuts off at a country that starts with a D (that's all I can see).
Next table, Estonia to Italy, looks OK.
Next table, Japan to New Zealand OK, then cuts off at Ni (maybe Nig)
Next table, Poland to Switzerland OK, then cuts off at Tu (maybe Tur)
The last table has two nations showing, the Ukraine/USA

I'll take another look at tables this week.

I'm glad Photobucket changed stance on photo posting. I think it was a universally unpopular move in the first place.

I just noticed today that we have a Game Knowledge "Discussion" and not a Game Knowledge "Forum" HaHa index.php

Game Add-Ons and Data Editing are both "Forum" - is there a difference between Forum and Discussion? :-D

For me the word forum brings to mind ancient Rome or maybe the LA Kings arena in the 1970s...and there was also a strip club across from the Oilers arena in the 80s called The Forum :-p

Good question! I think it stems back from when we first set up the site and had fewer sub-forums. "Forum" makes more sense to me than "Discussion" (which is why subsequent sub-forums use "Forum") but I couldn't possibly change it after 15 years! :-D

I have completed updating the forum software but it seems that the header navigation bar is missing. I will look into this tomorrow hopefully.

I am a fan of hockey for many years, been reading this forum from time to time. Finally after several weeks of being stuck in my Czech real estate due to the virus I decided to sing up and join the conversations. This place is really cool.
