I think they're trying to keep up the interest in their club, they've been promoting various commercial initiatives to make more money, I think this is one of them.

They talked up the Clouthier signing because they had an event to go with it, a meeting at a bar which they sold tickets for, it's probably all to make money.

Or maybe they're throwing out a red herring, the Steelers management seem to enjoy announcing other teams signings before the team in question announce them! Maybe Phoenix will release the name on monday :-? :-D

Or maybe they've signed Roberto Luongo on a £20,000 a year contract for the next 10 years(rising to £21,000 after 5 years - as an incentive to stay..) with a no movement clause in there as well, who knows?

Haha fantastic! :ha!:

I'd rather see us sign a cardboard cutout of Luongo than have the same NHL contract madness in the EIHL!

The EIHL have changed the rules so that from now in semi finals and finals there will be two 10 minute 4 on 4 OT periods before penalty shots

It's Scott Fankhouser! Personally, I've never heard of him. According to Hockey DB, he's played 23 NHL games for the Thrashers (16 games in 99/00 and 7 games in 00/01). In his 13 year career he's had 22 assists and 249 PIM (if I did my maths right!). He was drafted #276 in 1994 by the Blues.

This seems like a pretty good signing for us. I think anyone that has played backup goalie in the NHL will be great in the EIHL. Was he worth all of this hype? Hmmmm maybe. Maybe someone who has heard/recognises him can tell us more about him.

Fankhouser is a good goalie and will be one of best in EIHL if he plays like he can. I saw him for Bietigheim in Germany if I'm not mistaken, he was good. He has decent stats, as a Steelers fan I'd take him over Lehman any day.

I think he'll be a good keeper, he's put some goo numbers up in the ECHL and has NHL experience, you're not gonna get much more in the EIHL

Newcastle have signed Shevchenko, but unfortunately for NUFC fans its the Vipers and its Aleksandr not Andriy. :-p To be honest he looks...terrible. His stats look poor, he's played in Ukraine/Belarus most of his career and although I don't know owt about that league he looks like a bad signing for an EIHL team. Why oh why Newcastle have de-registered Ferone is beyond me. :dunno: I think Vipers will be in for a tough year.

doesn't seem to excel at anything really, a bit of a weird signing.

They're playing Hutchins at centre when he's actually a winger, and Campbell played left wing last year for Phoenix and he'll be playing right wing for the Vipers. Don't see the logic in that :dunno:

In the EPL, Sheffield Scimitars have unsurprisingly re-signed Ron Shudra. They have also signed Slovakian forward Peter Slamiar, stats here:

http://www.eurohockey.net/players/show_ ... rial=33143

Slamiar looks impressive, a 6th round draft pick of the New York Rangers, decent stats in the QMJHL, experience in the top Slovak league and from what I can tell the second top scorer on his team in the top Slovenian league. One happy Scimitars fan here. 8-)

I noticed Slamiar when doing my British update for EHM, looks like a very good player and could play in the EIHL, maybe Steelers next season?

Steelers to announce their 3rd line 'role player' (which translates as knuckle dragging goon) tomorrow as well. Unfortunately it looks like its going to be Jeremy Cornish. :thdn:

GI NO GI NO!!!! I miss Gino, but I see him around in Vancouver from time to time. HE owns a golf course here on one of the reserves. The man is unbelievably hilarious.

Phoenix were linked with Cornish, glad we stuck with Cloots instead

Phoenix GM Andy Costigan expects Cornish to go to Sheffield, unlucky :-D

Cornish is now a Steeler. Hey, the team may now be worse but look on the bright side, now I am almost guaranteed a fight when I watch the Steelers! Worst signing in the EIHL so far, in a limited import league you can't sign foreign players who can only do one role for you. We should have gone round Attercliffe (a particularly rough area of Sheffeld), found some British nutjob and got him to lace em up instead. Oh well, I'm sure that come the end of the season Cornish will be my favourite player, as fighters usually are.

Elsewhere Manchester have signed Canadian centreman Brian Passmore. He looks decent, in EHM he sometimes signs in UK and does well too. There are rumours that ex-Belfast Giant Kory Karlander will be going to Nottingham, and Belfast have agreed to play several games that would have been midweek at the Odyssey out of Dundalk on Saturday nights. Seems a decent move.

looks like they've taken them down now, obviously realised their mistake. 24th July is the earliest they will be released is 24th July, although I doubt I'll be able to go to many of them as I'll probably be working most sundays

Thanks for all your words of support

Haha! I got to the trials, and was told you need to be over 18, im only 17, they let me practice with them though, and i loved it, although i think people looked down on me because of my age and size (im kinda small), i tore up on the skating drills though! They were all speechless :-D

I'm now going to go the under 18s team and see if can make a good impression in front of there team! A little bummed bout the trials, maybe next though hey, :-)
