I got my best result with defensive-minded team. I tend to fill my team with two-way, powerforward and defensive forwards and unesthestic but efficient and hard-working defensivemen. The greatest achievement is having Nolan Yonkman 8.00+ ratings whilst having only 14 pts and over 150 PIM or so in a season

I set two offensive lines and two checking lines and I do line matching. I affectionate particularly big hitters and In Your Face strategies. In six seasons (of my last game) my players won 3 or 5 selke trophies (not counting runner-ups)

Oh Cullimore went. That is why my team is better than most who kept the bum in year 1.

I actually did a fantasy draft for a defensive team, because I wanted to try it out.

But, besides that, I generally build offensive teams and then plug a defensive/two-way player or two in to help out lines with guys who are actual defensive liabilities. Favorite defensive/two-way forward is probably Jere. He always puts up career numbers for me and is willing to resign for relatively cheap.

I will say this, though. If you want your team to dominate games shot-wise, either build a team off speed or defense.

I am using a defensive tactic with defensive players and am out shooting the opposition by miles every game. But not enough attack minded players to take advantage. Its a delicate balance i guess.

I agree, I play him everywhere, on my offensive line, PP and PK. He usually finish with 30+ goals and Selke contender. I can't ask more
Another good all-around player is Brenden Morrow. He can skate, score, pokecheck and he can hit too.

I got some surprising results when I took over Boston, after having spent the first three seasons at Norfolk. Norfolk is a big strong team to begin with, and I kept it that way, and I found out Boston (somewhere in in the middle of the third season) was well equipped to play the same kind of grinding defensive hockey.

With the players I had at hand, and by getting a few players along the way, I finished the season with well under three in GAA. With the right kind of training and the right kind of deployment, Mark Stuart, Marc Methot, Mark Fistric and Adam Pardy developed into solid defensmen with good speed, strength and defensive attributes. Sergei Gonchar and Tim Gleason, and at times young Dave Pszenyczny provided nice support for my offensive bunch. Hannu Toivonen --backed up by Pascal Leclaire-- played a stellar year in net. The offense was mostly built up of cheap young players (Bergeron, Kessel, Tarnasky) and defensive specialists (Morrow, Hinote, Primeau) with Savard and Gomez being the only expensive star players on the roster (including Gonchar of course).

All in all a very cheap and defensive minded team, with the emphasis on speed and strength. Combined with the right kind of tactic (one offensive line - three defensive lines), I kept the scoring low (both for and against).
