Face Off Hockey 2009 finally has a release date: October 2010. Although this probably won't be of much interest to EHM fans as FOH is just a single season statistical simulation, the future version of FOH will be. It is Brian's intention to add an EHM style career mode to FOH 2010 (or whatever the next version of FOH may be). The fact that he has now created an accurate hockey stats simulator must surely be a good quarter of the way towards creating an EHM type of game. [-o<

At one point i was told that FOH 2009 would be released with the single season simulation only and the next year the FOH with the career sim.

But that was in reference to FOH 2009 so then it would be FOH 2010 (now being released in coming months) that i thought would have the career sim added. Of course that isn't the case so at best i think it would be added for this time next year. (at the earliest)

Yeah that's what I assumed too - that it'll no be added in FOH 2011 (if it only takes him a year to work it out). Wolverine's other games look quite impressive - so I'm optimistic that FOH will turn out ok. I find it surprising that it's just one person working part time on it...

that's why i'm trying not to get my hopes up. Theres only so much one guy can do. There basketball game looks great but that took two versions...it may take a few versions for WS but i think this is the best shot at a successor to EHM. I just hope it stays alive for long enough.

i don't blame you. We are all career sim lovers. I am excited for the career sim because what are our options? I know there are a couple people working on their own hockey sim projects but we've seen this before....so i simply can't get my hopes up for those, i won't.

DDSPB2 is a decent game and if they bring in alot of the same stuff their hockey game it will be a great series.

As much as i love EHM (and i still play it ALOT) i am really getting tired of it...i need a more updated hockey sim and i know you all do too. I think we should all put some of that great input i see on the other threads and try and tell WS what you want and feel is important in their career sim..

Is anyone out there who managed to install the demo? It gives me an error at my both computers...

How do you play the game? I have managed to create a league I think, but now I don't know what to do. It looks different than in the manual, guess I need to have another look.

I managed to install it and create a league, but I don't know how I'm supposed to play it after I've loaded the league.

I completely agree with what you say. EHM is a great game but, four years since it's release, we're really missing an updated and more polished game. EHM does many things well but there are those little annoyances here and there which surely would have been ironed out in future versions.

I feel it's really important we get together some constructive feedback and/or suggestions for Wolverine Studios. I really hope that Dabo and UHS get their projects off the ground but, for the time being, FOH is the closest tangible game we have to a possible successor to EHM.

Is that the ActiveX error? They're working on a patch iirc but in the mean time you can get around it by installing the demo of DDS:PB2.

This is as far as I have gotten. Are we supposed to add human GMs somehow? The option to continue the game is greyed out :-?

It doesn't seem to work at all for me. I download setup.exe and start it, I get to the installation screen and the progress bar just doesn't move, says "downloading files 1 of 1" and that's it.

i had the same problem...i was able to put the "setup" file on my desktop but it wouldn't install (it would stop around 80 percent). i just kept trying and it finally installed. It mentioned my internet connection but it couldn't have been that.

lol i'm stuck with you...i too set up my league but don't know what to do from there either. I couldn't figure out how to take control of a team- i've basically given up for now. I really don't care about single season sims enough to continue screwing with it. The interface really was nothing what i expected either...

I think we are all missing something. Maybe we should just stick with EHM lol

Hoping...

I came to this subject hoping someone could tell me whether or not the game was worth the $39.99USD ... but it looks like people are having problems installing / playing the game... If anyone figures it out let me know please. I would be very grateful.

Here's how far I'VE been able to go with the demo: I installed (installation went fine) I then went to File>Create New League... it started up and I named the league and renamed the teams. I had to mess with the rosters a little, but I was finally able to create a league and set up a schedule, and get everything ready so that the "Play a Game" button was no longer grayed out. Then I click play a game and I get an "Unhandled Exception Error" I believe which pertains to .net framework from Microsoft. My .net is version 4.0 something, the one that updated in Windows 7... not sure what the problem is but I'm waiting to hear back from tech support on the Wolverine Studios forums. I really would like to eventually play and if I deem it a good game, purchase the full version.

Development of career mode in FOH continues at a snail's pace/slower than molasses going uphill in January.......better than nothing I suppose.

FaceOff Hockey 2011 has recently been released. There's still no career sim but Brian van Wyk still intends to introduce this into a future version.

Here's a list of the main new features:
  • Greatly improved speed, reduced file transfer sizes, import/export speeds;
  • Historical injuries and revamped multi-game injury system;
  • Injury, ratings and jersey number editors;
  • Revamped penalty engine and delayed penalty rule added;
  • Player cards and ratings and career stats;
  • Numerous report improvements;
  • New optional rules to enforce usage and effectiveness of partial players;
  • Enhanced AI for building strats automatically at game time;
  • Ability to trade picks and associated report;
  • Revamped playoff system
  • Game improvements such as "cold goalies" for goalies entering late in games and forward blockig shots;
  • Improved trading interface;
  • Schedule file exporter/importer;
  • Interface improvements such as a sortable stats page, new main roster screen, improved player search functionality and sortable leaders page;
  • Adminstrator password to lock down commissioner only features;
  • New player ratings.

Looks like development on this game is now on hold indefinitely:
Brian Van Wyk wrote:Issues in my life outside of Faceoff make it difficult for me to continue with any major development efforts towards the game for the forseeable future. Outside of adjusting to NHL rule changes and publishing new player data, the enhancements to the game will be few and far between going forward, however the seasons will continue to be released so long as there is enough interest in it to remain viable. Naturally the game will be repriced substantially to reflect this (half I am told). If anyone steps forward with the desire and skills (vb.net and intimate knowledge of the game of hockey) to continue major development, or the circumstances of my life improve considerably this may change.

No surprise to me. Sadly once they abandoned the career mode feature I lost full interest and I'd say so did a lot of people, besides the FOH fanbase of course which is quite small as well. Hopefully if someone does take it over, they add the career mode.

Yeah I did wonder whether interest had dropped once they confirmed career mode would play no part. The forums seem to have become quieter and quieter. There wasn't even a post from a single user in response to development being put on hold (and it looked like the thread wasn't locked). :\

Has anyone here ever put together an FOH league? I've been told one of the major focuses was multiplayer.

FOH is essentially a multiplayer game. I don't think anybody here has put together a league, but I know there are one or two guys here who are involved with leagues organised elsewhere (IIRC Spitfire is one such user).

Happen to know where I can find one? Came here hoping I could find at least one. The official forums are pretty dead. D:

All I can suggest is the official forum. After a few years of busy development, the dev has a lot loss spare time to work on it and it seems everything has quietened down.
