June 5th

The IceDogs confirmed the completion of a trade with the Erie Otters, trading goaltender Max Bouffard, and the rights to defenseman Victor Piszczek to the Otters in exchange for winger David Broll.

Goaltender Max Bouffard, while under contract to the IceDogs, played most of last season with the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's St. Catharines Falcons, playing in 57 games, and posting a 41-10-6 record, with a 2.83 GAA, and .894 SV%.

Defenseman Victor Piszczek played this past season with the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, where in 60 games he put up 55 (9+46) points, and was -2, with 74 penalty minutes.

Winger David Broll played this past season with the OHL's Erie Otters, where in 68 games he put up 53 (15+28) points, and was +22, with 160 penalty minutes.

Winger Joel Armia, the IceDogs first round pick in the CHL Import Draft, has decided he will not be coming to North America. Armia was passed over in the NHL Entry Draft, despite being ranked #116.

This means that unless the Devils send down winger Henrik Messfeldt, the IceDogs will be going with winger Gabriel Landeskog, and defenseman Simon Gronvaldt as their foreign players this year.

Winger Gabriel Landeskog has been named Niagara IceDogs Fans Player of the Year. In 27 games with the IceDogs last season, Landeskog put up 35 (23+12) points, and was +9, with 18 penalty minutes. In 9 playoff games he put up 12 (4+8) points, and was +2, with 2 penalty minutes.

Niagara IceDogs training camp opened today with physical fitness testing, showing exceptional fitness were tryout center Kaylen Pelletier, and center Freddie Hamilton, while winger Cameron Stewart, and center Myles Doan left something to be desired.

Team Blue defeat Team Red 3-1! Best performance was put in by defenseman Mike Schwindt, with honours also going to centers Freddie Hamilton, and Myles Doan.

Team White and Team Green skate to a 3-3 draw! Best performance was put in by center Steven Shipley, with honours also going to defenseman Simon Gronvaldt, and winger Kyle Woodhouse.



The IceDogs open their preseason at home, playing host to the Saginaw Spirit. Marc-Andre Maillette will get the start in goal for Niagara. The Hockey News released their OHL Season Preview today, and the Niagara IceDogs (Team MVP: RW Gabriel Landeskog, Key New Face: D Alain Herrington) have been ranked 7th out of the OHL's 20 teams!

Favorites to win the J.Ross Robertson Cup this season are the Saginaw Spirit, though the Peterborough Petes should give them a run for their money! The Ottawa 67's, and Plymouth Whalers should be strong contenders, while the Barrie Colts, and Kitchener Rangers should struggle.
