Nope - not drafted. As I mentioned, he signed with FLA on a deal that will kick in after Season 4.

Just goes to show how much players can differ game to game. It could also be that my training sucks. :-p
In my experience drafts/rankings are based on current ability more than PA. My Chiarlitti got drafted around 35th overall by Edmonton. I should play this challenge more.. but I'm currently too hooked to my GM career.

My season went completely down the drain in the last segment. I finished next to last in the league. My best players were Arniel and Neuber and they are gone now. IN the Priority Selection there is a clear-cut number one choice and I hope the Majors who pick before me fails to pick him up. I'm more looking forward to the Import draft. I have my eyes on a couple of players, haven't decided yet. Perhaps a countryman of Preisinger who I'm keeping

You mean Lidas rosters v. 2.3? It's available for download here.

Why don't you head to the Arrivals section and introduce yourself? :-D

Kerbashian played pretty well for me in the first season but he's not as effective in the second season. I think he is just okay and benefits from the quality of his center. In season 1 he had Arniel. In season 2 he's got Zion. That's made a difference. Francisco has gotten better though. I think his situation was just a case of needing to mature a bit.

Hey Lidas... I see you traded for Meurs too. Who did you give up for him?

My Kerbashian is really streaky. WIll score 5 goals in 7 games, then nothing for 10 games. Both years in my last segment the dude scored exactly 1 goal...in 18 games. Brutal. He tires I think and loses focus. He ticks me off a fair bit.

Ritchie has been having similar problems. Really the only guys who are fairly consistent are my dmen. And even they get streaky.

Off to round 2 of year two playoffs after sweeping the floor with the Soo.

I got he guys I wanted in the draft. The top forward is a LW with good scoring(or, that's what I'll hope he'll do) I also found some decent depth guys. IN the final round I thought I'd take a chance on a d-man wanting to go to college. Then, after the draft he's ok with either or, so I signed him.
In the Import draft, I chose Marek Tvrdon, a Slovak rightwinger(he can play left, as well) My scouts wanted Liljegren, but I wanted someone nobody else has. And I wanted a RW. Secondly, I took Adam Larsson. Don't know if he'll ever play for us, but you never know.
Now I'm looking for a trade. There is not one glaring need, but several so I might wait a little. Or not, as I am not the most patient manager.

But where is the time? I got to do some Lidas research, work, watch the upcoming draft and spend at least a little time with my girlfriend ;)

Year 2. Just finished my draft. Memorial Cup teams

WHL: Saskatoon Blades
QMJHL: Rimouski Oceanic
OHL: Sarnia Sting
Host: Erie Otters

Erie was knocked out early in the second round in 4 straight games.

Draft was interesting. I took 11 players, so passed after the 10th round due to the 2 4th round picks I had.

Here are my picks:

1st round, 20th-Quade Weir LW/C/RW-5'11 187. Power forward, scored 98 points in 59 games with Pickering CCHL

2nd round, 40th -Jamie Van Hoek-LD/RD 6'0 176-Skilled defensive dman. Great skater

3rd round, 60th-Milo Bremner, C 5'11 174-Defensive power forward, great skater and high work rate/teamwork

4th round, 78th, Guy Hillier, RD 6'0 169 Enforcer. 17 strength, 15 agression. Hits like a truck, and is called a poor man's Jovocop

4th round, 80th-Delaney Walz, RW/C/LW-5'10 158- Skilled off forward, like Lupul. not a strong skater, but great hands and good work rate.

5th round-100th-Turk Haggarty, G- 5'11 141-Starter, Hybrid. Looks interesting, similar stats to my main man right now, Shayne Campbell.

6th round-120th-Martin Carroll-C-6'2 147-Quick forward. Good skater, taking a gamble here, all my scouts liked him, but I was not sure. Great work rate.

7th round-140th-Troy Calbeck-RW-5'6 141-Offensive power forward. At 5'6? Hope he grows. But he has 18 strength already, so could be. Has some nice skill stats too. I went against my size rules for him. We will see.

8th round-160th-Zarley Wheeler-RD-5'11 158- Defensive Defenseman. Just a guy. Seems okay. May make the team in a couple years.

9th round-180th-Jessey Steeves-LD-5'11 167-Skilled Defensive Defenseman. Ok skater, looks good in own zone. Needs offensive work to make team. No puck skills to speak of.

10th round-200th-Luke Snow-LW/RW-6'0 205-Power forward. Dude has 20 strength already, 15 agression. decent numbers 32-35-67 with Toronto Jr Canadians. We will see.

Going to have to release the guy who has been my backup goalie all season long, I just could not resist drafting Snow. I have Parker and Phillips anyway, so not that concerned. But would have been nice for Gladwish to get his 2nd mem cup as a backup.

So releases will include:

Gladwish
Sullivan (Signed with ECHL Stockton anyway)
Webster
Petterson (not coming)
Soucie (horrible)
Macqueen (after decent year 1, did not make team in year 2)
Peters(20 year old, not playing in playoffs anyway for me)
Crosby (RW--got in one game in 2 seasons and appears useless)
Sylvestre (C-not good enough anyway)
Nicholson--(not progressing, and Milligan, Marcoux, Fransisco have LW all locked up, plus maybe Kavartsis)
Somerville--Part time D man, just not good enough for me.

It is an all OHL Memorial Cup final. Sarnia vs Erie. I won my 3 games and got the bye. Beat Erie 2-1 in OT in game 3. IN game 1 beat Saskatoon (with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins) 3-1 and defeated Rimouski 1-0 in game 2.

This should be tough.

Year 3 is underway. Played my first 17.

Here is what has happened.

I made my trade in the offseason moving Stoughton to Kingston for RD Clarke Seymour. Needed to shore up the D. This left me deciding to keep Preisinger for his 20 year old year and fill in two spots.

My import draft was interesting: I picked up a Slovak kid on the RW who is a 1991. He signed immediately, and is doing okay for me with some upside. Not going to be a star by any means. But he plays RW which I needed.

I also drafted a French kid..who looks like a stud. But he will not leave his dang team right now. Oh well....

Granlund was signed by Dallas, and again sent to the farm team. So will be releasing his rights in the future. This made me keep Preisinger, as a two spot overager. He is doing well for me as you can see from the stats.

I had 4 overagers-O'Quinn, Preisinger, Drydak and Rogalski to choose 3 of once I had dealt Stoughton. I decided to keep the first three based on recent performance and the need for RD on my team. Rogalski, although still under contract is playing for the Sarnia Legionairres and will not see the light of day with my team this season, since I have several younger dmen down there as well, including at the start of the season Paat and R Zupancic.

As the season began my roster was shaky. Fransisco was injured for 3 months, and Campbell and Ritchie were on NHL tryouts after being drafted. Ritchie went to NJ 30th overall and at 78th...the Hurricanes took Campbell.

With Gladwish released and Campbell in Carolina...Phillips finally got his shot, and has made the most of it. Even with Campbell back they are still splitting the games ,and Phillips is outperforming Campbell.

Campbell is 8-1-0 with no shutouts, 2.00 GAA 925 SP and 8.67 av rating. Not too shabby but...

Phillips is 7-0-1 with 3 shutouts, 1.23 GAA 950 SP and 9.13 av rating. Outstanding.

I have two of my most recent picks on my team...my first and second rounders, and others (including my 10th rounder) really pushed to make it.

I have 5 1991 born players 4 of whom were OHL picks, and one from this season's import draft. The OHL guys are my 1st rounder (McCallum), 4th rounder (Marcoux), 5ht rounder (Gallant) and 10th rounder (Mackinnon). All but McCallum played with the Sting last season too.

My coaching staff took a beating. Amonte left and ould not resign with me as his contract expired...he took the head coaching job with Sudbury

Dave Andreychuk my head coach left me mid season for a GM position with Owen Sound as well.

Then Pacquette would not accept the head coach job, and remains as an assistant..so one of the assistants I hired to fill the roster back in season 1 is now my head coach...a Finnish guy by the name of Kai Koponen.

Anyway...15-1-1. Scoring more than normal, and keeping the puck out still. Team seems to be balanced in scoring, but all the players are streaky. So I could be in for a big slump somewhere.

Here is my lineup right now, with Fransisco just back in game 17 from injury.

Milligan 90-Preisinger 88 F OA-Ritchie 90
Kavartzis 90-Zion 89-Macleod 90
Marcoux 91-O'Quinn 88 OA- Mackinnon 91
Fransisco 90-McCallum 91-Kubis 91 F
Weir 92-Dutra 90-Alderson 89

Weir gets alot of playing time but it is between him, Dutra and Alderson as to who will be sent down now that Fransisco is back. I have sent down Hottot, Campagna, and Crosby as all three I was sick of not performing. They will be released at the end of the year, and will only play if I have mega injuries. All are doing well on the farm team.

Chiarlitti 89-Drydak 88 OA
Flemington 89-Gallant 91
Van Hoek 92 - Seymour 90
Zupancic 90-Paat 90

Again, have had some injuries on the back line (Seymour is out two weeks right now) so Paat was recalled. Zupancic is basically playing every second game and am rotating the D in and out. Van Hoek is already my top guy. He plays top line PP. Rogalski (OA) will never see the light of day. But I have Armstrong 90, Barker 91, Murphy 90, and Herauf 91 on the farm. I have loaned out one of my 92 picks Hillier (4th round I believe) and also have Wheeler from my 92 group signed and loaned out.

If I stay healthy this team is going run roughshod. In the season preview we were ranked 8th. I mean I won the Mem Cup when ranked 19th and 18th the previous two seasons. This should be cake!!!

Shawinigan hired my head coach as their GM. That shouldn't be allowed... at least not in the middle of the season.

Benoit Hogue was my head coach and I don't really have anyone under contract that I would want to hire as head coach. Of course, I'll have to hire one of them so that I can hire an assistant that will then take over as head coach later on. Ugh!

So I'm 5-0-1 to start the 2nd season, still behind Windsor and Erie in the standings. Traded one of my higher defensive prospects that I had in the Sarnia Legionnaires for Gabriel Landeskog! The Rangers wanted next to nothing for him... so I jumped on it

I ended up signing the most well-rounded of my assistants into the head coach position. I didn't see any good potential replacements to fill that now empty assistant coach position though. I'll have to wait.

Now with just 1 game left in the regular season and the whole playoffs ahead of us, my captain, Bret Sullivan, signed with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL. Great! Just what I needed. I guess I'll be called Richard back up from the Legionnaires.

Advice and challenge 18?

OK so I ended up reformatting my hard drive, and I know it's going to happen again, but this time I will be prepared. Anyways, I'm kind of at a loss. I was well into season 1 when I faced quite a few challenges with the Sting, namely, I was losing a lot. My main question is, is there anyone out there who feels generous enough to give me some pointers considering this is my first challenge?

Also, how is challenge 18 selected? Is there a vote after the deadline for this challenge?

Konstantinov, it's all about tactics and player management. We all did poorly 1st year, I got into either the 1st or 2nd rd of the playoffs then got absolutely slaughtered. Try and build for years 2-3 by drafting and address your weak spots (with Sarnia, that's all of them). Once Arniel leaves, Zion will most likely become your 1st line center, so try and make a pitch for a center when you can start trading. I personally love Gabe Landeskog (had him in a NY Rangers save, was 2nd liner with 70+ pts) so I made my move for him.

Try giving the whole tread a read, there are some great tips here. Actually, the whole site has some great pointers for you. Just look around, from tactics to practices.

The big boys will just pick an extremely weak team and that'll be challenge 18! We were all in suspense for these ones. I remember the Avs one and the Jets one. I loved the Jets one.

I'm now 9-1-3, just crushing the Owen Sound Attack 6-2. Shut down Hishon, which makes me sad as an Avs fan... :-p

1st in the OHL, 2nd in the CHL. Landeskog has been playing well for me, which is great because many of my depth players are struggling. I've upped my tactics to be a tad more offensive to get the bottom lines clicking.

Kerbashain just WILL NOT do anything. 1 goal, 7 assists in 13 games?? Jebus.

Won't be sad to see him go.

Konstantinov16 wrote: Also, how is challenge 18 selected? Is there a vote after the deadline for this challenge?
In the early days of the challenges we used to run polls for which teams to use. Over time it's become very difficult to find teams that were weak enough to use. If we use a well stocked team, we end up with the majority of the people participating having similar results. So many of us have been playing the game for so long that we're all just too good at it. By using weaker teams it makes us work extra hard to get any results.
alexob18 wrote:The big boys will just pick an extremely weak team and that'll be challenge 18! We were all in suspense for these ones. I remember the Avs one and the Jets one. I loved the Jets one.
The Avs challenge was pretty good. They were such a naturally weak team at that point that we were able to play them as they were. The Jets challenge was interesting but it could have been done better. I blame that one on myself. I loved the whole idea of the community choosing the roster but I made it a little too easy. The choices I put up made the team a little too well stocked, in my opinion.

Challenge 18 will probably be a short challenge because we'll want to kick off a new challenge once Lidas releases his new rosters for the 10-11 season. The current challenge still has more than a month to go though. Lidas did have an interesting idea for future challenges though. We could use one of the better teams but in database (or was it the extra.config?) he could assign a "Cap Penalty" which would make our team never be able to spend up to the cap. We'd be forced to waive many good players. It's something still in the idea stage but it could be a VERY good one.
