I find myself sympathizing with Buffalo who of course are dead last by 10+ points. I'm not even going to try and trade for their 1st round pick. I say, let them have mcdavid. Does that make me a weak individual, destined to fail in this game?
The definition of a 'fail' or a 'success' in this game is really yours. Some people are happy putting together a fantasy team and exploiting every mistake by the system to win; other people won't allow themselves to take advantage of the computer's flaws.
My rebuilding Devils would up with 3rd overall (and 13th - I got the Ducks 1st mid season and they amazingly crashed right out of the playoffs). I know that I probably could have traded up for McDavid, but I thought that's just not realistic and decided to stick with 3rd. I actually ended up taking Weneski, who was rated #4 in the draft just behind Hanifin. For some reason Hanifin in my draft didn't seem to have particularly great attributes. We'll see how that works out. I got Barzal with #13.
In my second season the Devils are doing much better, 7th in the East after the first month. It's mostly the same core as the group that was third-worst the previous season, so we'll see if it lasts. One surprising thing is that my leading goal scorer is Luke Adam, who I picked up off waivers in the previous season. He's a point per game so far.

From what i heard the team that finishes in last place rarely if at all wins the lottery. I saw a post floating around where in 25-30 lotteries the bottom team didn't win once and teams higher up in the standings were winning constantly. Something is broken if that's the case.
The post i'm talking about was from the SI forums. The guy simulated the draft 32 times and below were the results.
24th Canucks 14
25th Devils 1
26th Panthers 0
27th Coyotes 0
28th Senators 1
29th Flyers 16
30th Sabres 0

Yeah, i'm one of those guys who get's annoyed if things are going "too well", and it doesn't seem very sporting to exploit buffalo right now. However, i'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, as just now, the hurricanes offered me Jeff Skinner in a trade for Nate Guenin and the rights to Connor Bleakely. What are they doing. A deep playoff run, here i come!

Started a new save with the Red Wings. We've got a rebuild coming up, but I'm trying to retain a winning culture in the club, so we'll keep aiming for the playoffs.
We've got some talent coming up with Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Dekeyser, Smith and Mantha, but the defense needs some work though.
I'll have a proper update coming up after the first season

I haven't played as Arizona, but in both of my games so far Duclair has become a free agent in summer 2015 when Arizona did not sign him for some unknown reason. Maybe there's a bug specifically related to him in the game. A few other top prospects haven't been signed in each game too, so I'm not sure. Although, some of the others were top prospects who had struggled.

I keep starting and re-starting a Florida franchise, though this time I think I will try and stick with this save. I have made a few trades, though I just wish I could get rid of Luongo(I have never liked him in real life and in any game I have played), darn NTC!

Happened here to deinetiely a game or Db issue along with Philadelphias pick belonging to the Lightning and in my game also Namestnikov left Lightning 22 years old without any compensation as UFA.

While I wait for the next patch, which will fix the problem I have with my NHL team, I have started a new game where I started unemployed. Mid-season I took over the Pelicans in Finland let's see if I can bring some success there.

It cost a lot of picks to acquire Kane.

I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous.

"There and then" to destroy the whole franchise futur with basically no picks for 4 years.

First season as the Red Wings, traded Cleary/Kindl to the Rangers for St.Louis, and just let Franzen, and that contract, wash away on Waivers to the Dallas Stars. I'm in March and we've already clinched a Playoff spot and, after cruising for so long, have hit a snag prompting a lineup change. Nyquist leads the league in Goals, while Zetterberg leads with Points and assist. I've been trading starts between Howard, who excelled in the first half of the season to only falter out, and Gustavsson, while giving a few starts to Mrazek during the bugged schedule of 3+ games in a row. Brendan Smith has been on a tear all season, getting promoted to the #1 Pairing with Zidlicky, and scoring 18+ goals so far. Kronwall has fallen hard, failing to get any points in 10+ games and completely murdering his Rating and +/-, getting dropped to the Second Pairing. My lines are as follows:
Zetterberg-Sheahan-Nyquist
Abdelkader-Datsyuk-Tatar
Cole-Weiss-St Louis
Miller-Helm-Glendening
Smith-Zidlicky
Kronwall-DeKeyser
Quincy-Ericsson
Howard/Gustavsson
Andersson (Who I've used as a Forward and D-Man, when needed)
Power Play:
Zetterberg-Datsyuk-St Louis
DeKeyser/Smith
Tatar-Weiss-Nyquist
Zidlicky/Abdelkader

Montreal just offered me Gallagher for 35-year old Franzen with his horrible contract + a marginal prospect at the deadline. Take it and run far, far away
We're standing 3rd in the East just past the deadline. I'm still rebuilding the franchise though, and it's going great for the moment.
Current lines:
Zetterberg Datsyuk Nyquist
Tatar Hertl Gallagher
Abdelkader Sheahan Helm
Miller Glendening Flynn/Cleary
Smith Stone
Kronwall Dekeyser
Quincey Zidlicky
Howard
Hutton
Mantha, Pulkkinen and Folin will probably make the team next year. Fiala, Zadorov and Frk will get another year in the AHL

BlueAngel, let me ask you how Mantha has been for you? Have you called him up to the NHL this season? I ask because he started REAL hot down in the AHL for me, so much that when a top 6 Forward was out for about two weeks, Tatar, I called him up and put him on the second line with St Louis and Weiss. He didn't register a point for three games, and I figured since Nyquist was a Point scoring machine on the first line with Z and Dats, maybe that's what he needed. And of course, it wasn't. He didn't register a point until I put him on the Third line with Cole and Sheahan, and only muster up 3 assist total while getting 8PIM, and +/- of -5 for me. Since he's been back down, he hasn't done as well in the AHL.
