Challenge 39 Rebuilding the Bruins - Discussion

My squad is set for the start of season 3, preliminary lines look like this:

Moved Pastrnak over to the left to accomodate Brown, we'll see how it works out. If it doesn't work out i have no idea what to do

Depending on how everyone does i might clear a spot by trade to fit in some guys from Providence, the guys i'm keeping the closest look on are; Dante Fabbro RD, Vitaly Novikov LW, Eemeli Visuri C and Clayton Keller C/LW. All of the overage guys except Marchand and Krug are on short leashes.

Does personal tactics reset when you scratch a player for a game? I feel like some players keep it and some reset, it's pretty frustrating when you run 2 different teams in preseason

Sometimes it does, i have no idea why and i haven't noticed a pattern about it.

Sometimes i send people down to AHL for a few months, bring them back up and they still have their personal tactics there right as i left them. Other times you scratch a player for one game and it's reset the next day

This team is bad and there will be changes from Providence. WIth the way Klimchuk has lit up pre season down there, likely to get a shot here. Irwin has done well down there too, and he will come up if I Send Zboril back.

I just finished my preseason and it went horribly. Zboril is still not NHL caliber but I can afford to be patient with him. Keller, Forsbacka and Zetterlund were clearly not NHL ready and Nolan Patrick has been meh, he's on my 3rd line C now because he's the only one who doesn't suck. Brown had an amazing camp though and he's my 1C, Spooner is playing very well on the 2nd line so it's a pretty solid top 6. Philips, Khokhlachev and Griffith decided it was time to have brain farts and they were all stupidly bad on my 4th or 3rd line C. (I usually have Khokhlachev Lw anyways) I'm really disapointed at Keller, I was sure he would be a great player but I tried him at every lines but he kept getting 6s and almost didn't score at all. My AGM puts Fitzpatrick at the top followed by Subban and Makarov. Their roles are junior starter, AHL starter, NHL starter respectively. Fitz could have been my starter but I didn't want to put McIntyre on waivers, he was decent enough and Providence already have Subban and Vladar...

The Shmyr-Patrick duo really didn't work out finally, Shmyr really struggled on the top 6 and Patrick is decent. I guess chemistry isn't really a factor in this game

I gave Brown 8 games until i sent him down to Providence, 2+1 with a bad Av R just didnt cut it, brought up Novikov instead and i'm rearranging the lines as we speak.

3-3-1 after my first 7. McIntyre has played all but 80 minutes for me. Yanked the sieve back up....after 20 minutes in his first start. But Mac has done well.


Leading scorer...Spooner 1-5-6 in the 7 games. Goals is Toffoli.

Zboril 0-5-5 in 6 games, best dman so far. Rested him one game.

Pastrnak and Marchand both went down game 1. Pastrnak just came back in game 7 and scored and set up a goal.

In my save, that went bonkers, I also sent Subban down after the a couple of regular season games, where he didn't impress, to put it politely.

Ever since, he went on a leave of absence without approval....

After 41 games in 3rd season

OKAY, our rebuilding has been ended.

We have 0.659% from all points, we are 1st in our division, so second in our conference. Matthews and Toffoli are rudicolous. Kovác in 1st line is very solid, and my 2nd line si very good too. And my deffense is great. Krug and Larsson are very legit 1st pair Dmen, Zboril has 4* already and 3rd pair Leandersson-Carlo is very, very good. Both have over +10. Only Joe Morrow could be better, but I'm waiting for Jake Bean and Body Wilde (our prospects), so maybe I will trade Morrow later...

Anyway I'm very bad with David Pastrnak, I think that I will trade him after season and maybe Petr Mrazek too, because Subban has 4* too and he is very better than Mrazek this season.

I want Stanley Cup this season!

1st 20 games of Season 3 is done. The Bruins sit 3rd in conference right now.

The Senyshyn experiment ended 13 games into the season. He had only 4 assists. Call up Fabbri, and although he's tappered off in his last two games, the kid has 3G 2A in 7 games. What I have noticed is that those who are praising Senyshyn are having a difficult time with Spooner. Spooner is my #1 center with 4G 8A in 15 games.

Zboril went down with an injury, so in comes Dante Fabbro (16th overall pick 2016). Zboril came back and Fabbro has not been sent down yet. In 9 games he has 4A and is a +6.

I have to say, that I'm liking the whole hidden attributes thing. It forces me to look at their average rating instead of their attributes. I never would've called up Fabbro. I either would've called up Tye Graham or Luke Green, and Fabbro has been one of my top Dmen.

I still need another top 2 center. I keep on moving Bjugstad and Tierney around and I'm getting kind of tired of it.

I don't really have problems with Spooner, he's my 3C + PP-specialist and he does well in that role most of the time

So I think I've got my team set and trades made for the season. I couldn't resist shipping out all of the older players that I was allowed, except Kevan Miller. I just didn't see the need and nothing of interest was offered for him. Here's what I did...

Irwin and Kemppainen to the Sharks for Timo Meier and their and their 3rd

I felt that Kemppainen wasn't really needed because he was a 4th liner and I could try something different there without much risk. Irwin wasn't very good and not needed. Meier looks to be a good scoring winger.

Brad Marchand to the Hurricanes for Ryan Murphy and Adrian Kempe

While Marchand wasn't bad but I felt his size held him back with the type of game he played. Ryan Murphy was really good back when we did our Hurricanes challenge and I'm hoping he still is. He should add some zip to my PP from the blue line. Kempe is a great young defensive forward. I liked this deal but the board and fans hated it.

Matt Belesky to the Capitals for their 1st round pick

At this point, he was a spare part for me. I was getting offers of junk players from some teams and then weaker teams were offering a 2nd round pick. Why not takes a 1st rounder from the defending Stanley Cup champs? The worst it could be is 1 pick better than any of the second rounders I was offered.

Seth Griffith to the Sharks for Jeremy Roy

This wasn't a big deal. I just wanted to get rid of Griffith. I didn't like him and he really didn't fit for us. I got another defensive prospect back in return.


So it's mid-August and I just saw a news item about a free agent signing. The Jets just signed Stamkos! Looks like the Lightning let him go UFA. Ouch!

I'm trying to see if I can fix my second line center issues internally. Ever since I put Josh Ho-Sang at center on my second PP unit, he's been playing great. So I've placed him at center on my 2nd line.

Well that was a bad Q2. Dropped from 3rd in the conference to 9th. I've been having a hard time holding onto leads. I sent Fabbri down and I'm giving Senyshyn another chance. Hopefully he works out this time.

Season 1..20 game mark

Okay, started off 3-3-1 in my first 7. In my next 13....10-1-2. This was insane.

Here is why.

1. Jacob Zboril at 19 is already a STUD....1-14-15 in 18 games. HE is what makes the PP tick. 0-7-7 on the PP.
2. Bo Horvat and Ryan Spooner--have both been excellent, and alternating back and forth top line (both PP and ES)
3. Toffoli got hurt and only has 12 pts in 17 games
4. GOALTENDING--McIntyre got hurt, called up Subban....yeah this is a different SUbban then I sent down at start of season. He is 4-0-0 with 2 shutouts. The other two goalies were just doing okay. But Malcolm has come in and been unreal to start.
5. Krug and Morrow are just okay. Pokka is awesome for me, almost as good as Zboril.
6, Klimchuk came up, scored 5 points in 3 games. THen stopped scoring. But he may stick as he is playing well.
7. Pastrnak is down to third line, Connolly has been way better than him. Connolly scoring line? 6-11-17, and only had no points in 3 of last 15 games. Currently on 4 game scoring streak.
8. Marchand was out for a bit too...he started slow on return from injury but now is up to 4-6-10 in 10 games. 8 of those points in last 5 games, on a streak like Connolly.

Well it took 2.5 quarters of the season, a trip back to the AHL, and a call up on a gut feeling from the Ottawa native Bruins GM for Seneshyn to finally live up to the lofty expectations that have been placed upon him.

So I decided to ask my HC and AHL coach which players I should bring up. Apparently I should bring up both Vladar and Subban (even though I have 2 useful goalies here already) I should also bring up Shmyr, Nolan Patrick, Karabacek and Tye Graham (even though he has 6,33 AVR in the AHL and only 1 assist in 18 games)

And my coach thinks Trotman, Blidh (16 pts last season, 9 pts in 22 game as a 4th liner and he puts up ~7AVR), Griffith, Khokhlachev(my top scorer, 23 goals 2 years ago, 24 lasts season and he's also a ~7AVR), Spooner(mixed reports half said good enough, half said not good), Connolly.

Also half my coaches says Fabbri is not a good hockey player and half says he's a top prospect.

So now I'm not sure if the coaches are right because I LOVE Khokhlachev and Blidh. I brought up Karabacek and scratched Hayes. I only can trade Hayes and Trotman this year so I don't expect anything good to come, maybe a pick for Trotman

Q1 of season 3 is done and the team is looking alot better with a .667 winrate, my top-6 had a rough start but after i remade it and sent Brown down it's gotten better. Spooner is having an insane season, PPG from the 3rd line and PP1. Both my goalies are posting good numbers, both over .915 SV% for now. Krug has finally woken up for real, only took a bit over 2 seasons, he sits at 4+8. Zboril is having a solid rookie season, nothing spectacular but he's been fine, Senyshyn has been worse then last season but that was expected, 4+7 right nowso it's not bad PP has been better but the PK is struggling, made some changes now which hopefully fixes it.

Providence just keeps winning, will be a top team this season aswell. Kylington is 3+15 in 22 games, insane. Fabbro is doing good aswell and is probably NHL-ready already. Logan Brown is 4+4 in 11 games since he was demoted and might get another shot in the big club later this season, Clayton Keller is also having a great rookie season in AHL.

Edit: Pastrnak just got hurt 3 weeks so i'll give Brown another chance, Zibanejad out to the wing.

74 games in and I'm battling for my life to get into the playoffs. Three straight losses may have just killed those chances. I could've been sitting in 6th spot with those 6 points. Hopefully they can get it together and make that last big push as we're just sitting 2 points out of a playoff spot.

Providence is also a top team for me, they were really good last year too. My PP% is total rubbish 11% and my PK% is actually decent with 82%. I'm really struggling with offense my best player is Khokhlachev then Logan Brown and Senyshyn. I've called up Karabacek since he's an all offense guy and he got 2 goals and an assist in 8 games with PP time. Bittner and Crouse and my worse forwards, 3 points in 31 games for Bittner and 9 in 27 games for Crouse. I could bring up Shmyr and send down Bittner but I'll try to give Bittner PP time he may be good at being in front of the net.

All of my defenseman are good offensively, Krug 17 assist in 30 games, Morrow 5-6 in 31 games, Quenneville 8 assist in 24 games, Ekblad 2-5 in 31 games, Greztky 6 assist in 31 games and Shea Theodore 1-5 in 31 games. Theodore is really slow to start the season, maybe Ekblad is slowing him down.

Makarov is 11-12-1 and have a GAA of 2.70, sv% of 912, McIntyre is 2-3 GAA of 2.98, sv% of 899. I think I should have kept Fitzpatrick on my roster, he's destroying the Q with 21-5-1 GAA of 1.60 and a sv% of 944.

I'm currently standing 11th in the Eastern conference, 14-16-1 is my record. Lots of overtimes win but I'll take it! I'd like to make the playoffs but I'd be alright if we're just outside of it. I just don't want to be at the bottom again...

I just want to clarify something, Can I make MY season 2 trade for players 29 or older on the 15th of June, or do I need to wait until the 1st of July?

Seasons change for our trading purposes on June 15th. You make your initial trades and then you must wait until June 15th 2017. At that point, the trading age drops to 28. At this point you're allowed to trade players 28 and older but not required to trade them.
