The thing in Finland is that because of the laws regarding where you can drink your beer, you can't take it with you to your seat, which means I have to drink my beer quickly within the 18 minutes of intermission, so that I don't miss the game!
Of course you could stay at the bar and watch the game on the telly, as there's live broadcast there, but that's not what I paid for!
So, the law, that requires alcohol only to be served at the bars, makes me more drunk every time, because I have to gulp my beer so quickly. If I could take it with me to my seat, I'd be drinking calmly and in an orderly fashion.

You'll love it here in England, Tasku, you can take your beer to your seat with you!

Yeah, that's pretty much how it goes everewhere else. In Germany you can do that too. We just have some ridicilous alcohol laws here. This being the result of one of them. It's not the teams who want us sitting at the bar, it's
them!

It's the same here in Sweden. We may only drink in the bars of the arenas

I was umming and ahhing over whether to go or not for a while, but just decided to go for it in the end. I might not get another chance for a long time! Although saying that, if New York make the Stanley Cup final, then I'll be there at the end of May for a couple of nights.....
Was a really good game, although it got a bit silly at the end after the Islanders could no longer win

Ha, it has been even worse in Slovenia, where they banned the alcohol within (i'm not sure exatly how much) 40m radius around the sports venue. Nowdays you can get beer in the arena, but as you said, it's a fight each intermission, if it's a crowded game

You have to pick the right second to start from the stands (on average it's about one minute prior to the closure of the period), then you have to pick the strategic position in the bar, to get noticed by the girl behind the bar, then you have to beat some other guys yelling at her, finally when you get your beer, you have to fight back from the bar to the open area, where you can pour your beer in your throut in the remaining 4 minutes before the next period starts.

Just came back from watching the Kalamazoo Wings fall to the Fort Wayne Komets, 4 games to 1 in the first round of the ECHL playoffs. We went to both Games 4 and 5.
This is notable because next season the two teams will be in different conferences in the ECHL because of all the AHL and ECHL realignment, and can only possibly meet in the Kelly Cup Finals. The rivalry is the oldest in the ECHL by far: Fort Wayne and Kalamazoo have been playing one another almost nonstop since 1974 when Kalamazoo first joined the old original "AAA" IHL that Fort Wayne was a member of. The ECHL has only existed since 1988 (and none of their original teams exist anymore), the CHL (which the ECHL absorbed) had only existed since 1992.
Since 1974 maybe doesn't seem like a long time, but in minor pro that's an eternity. Teams just don't last that long anywhere anymore. It's a shame how little long-standing rivalries mean in today's leagues...

In this case I'd say it's better to form an orderly line, rather than getting served at the table.

Last two games I saw were German Oberliga (Selb vs. Schweinfurt 9-3) and in the DEL Nurnberg vs. Cologne (0-1), both games were in 2014. Though I live only 400 metres away from the Netzsch-Arena in Selb my working shifts don't allow me to see more than a handful games per season.

Utica @ Manchester, game 1 Calder Cup Final in Manchester. Manchester won 3-2 in OT, pretty enjoyable game. Manchester looked stronger but that didn't really convert pressure in to chances. Markstrom looked pretty good in nets for Utica and made 1 very good stop. Berube let in a soft one which allowed Utica to tie it up.
Weal looked like the best player out there, although Mersch also looked good and had a hand in all of the goals for the home team.

darn I'm so jealous! There's you travelling around North America watching top-end hockey and here's me giving up my Flames season ticket and moving to a remote island with zero hockey.

Probably the last trip for a while. It'll be back to watching the London Raiders in a few months!
Maybe you should start the Guernsey hockey team? Might have to be field hockey though!

Comets-Monarchs. Totally awesome game to see live. Those two AHL teams are very good. I would not be shocked if both of them could handle Buffalo and Phoenix in 4 straight in a playoff match up. The goaltending on the Comets side is tremendous right now with Markstrom. Manchester has so many good players as well.

Markstrom looked good. On the Manchester side, I felt that offensively they looked very strong. Weal was everywhere and always wanted the puck, O'Neill looked good too. Mersch I didn't notice as much, but always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Dowd also looked pretty good too. Defensively, they were prone to giving the puck up under pressure with silly little passes instead of just clearing the zone. Bodnarchuk looked pretty good to start, but I think he got injured and didn't play as much after that.
Pretty enjoyable game as well, glad it went to OT because I had some time to kill before the bus back to Boston!
Not bad for $35

Also, Bissonnette did a lot of yapping, but not a lot else. Monarchs went down to 3 lines in the 3rd so he didn't get many shifts either!

Now with the Manchester Storm back i've been to most of their first few games.
Last one was Storm v Dundee - Good start then we got wrecked, again! Kalemba but want to hang himself - 13 goals allowed in 19 hours or so. Not great.
I'll be at Steelers v Storm in Sheffield on the 27th September!
