End of season 2. Finished 6th in the conference and beat Vancouver 4-3 in the first round of the playoffs but lost 1-4 to the Red Wings in the second round.

The line up which finished the season was:

Umberger - Jokinen - Lisin
Hanzal - Mueller - Doan
Fedoruk - Stone - Mair
Carcillo - Brodziak - Videll

Jovanovski - Komisarek
Eminger - Whitney
Methot - Semenov
(Pardy)

Toivonen
Bryzgalov

Toivonen started badly then did great (60 games in he had the best GAA in the league) then trailed off towards the end but did well again in the playoffs so I will try to offload Bryzgalov to get rid of his high wages.

Methot came in as injury cover with 5 games left of the regular season after doing well in the AHL and impressed so he kept his place when Pardy was fit again.

Umberger had a disappointing season getting 81 compared to 100 last season in less games so will keep an eye on Free Agency or pay close attention in the pre-season games.

Both Videll and Brodziak have requested over £2.5million for next season so thats not going to happen and Stone will be hopefully replaced as centre of the checking line.

Speaking of the checking line..........the playoffs are a good measure of how well they are doing when you are using line matching. I noticed that when I had home games and could match my 3rd against their 1st lines I was only giving up about 18-25 shots per game, but when I was away and couldnt control the line matchups I was giving up 30+.

Prospect wise I have Lucic (LW), Methot (LD), Wilson (RD) Cracknell (RW - 107pts from 65 AHL games) and Nikhulin (C) who had 134 points in 80 AHL games, who are all knocking on the door, aswell as young guns like Turris (who has swept the board in the CHL), Maclean, Bodker, Mike Pelech and Brayden Schenn who are all progressing well.

Carcillo finished the season on 15 points from 72 games and 629 PIMS (he was set to encouraged). In the playoffs he amassed 165 PIMS in 12 games.

Still got alot of work to do to make this team cup contenders.

I'd be interested to see how Mike Pelech turns out for you. I couldn't get him to develop very well, and he never spent much time above the third line. He only managed 54 points in 172 regular season games. He's playing in Austria now.

Okay Canucks year 2:

Roster is almost the same as season 1.

Draft was interesting, not much out there for it, but I managed to find a couple guys.

1st rounder Seth Helgeson LD/RD, American, no college committed to. Scouts call him a bigger better Suchy or Paul Ranger. All say is 1-2 potential. Signed him after a good camp (7's and 8's in 3 exhib)...was going to send him to ECHL Victoria, but he started strong in Manitoba so left him there. He had a bad spell, and now is my top rated d-man down there. Looking good.

2nd rounder-Ryan Ellis. Could not resist. Not great positionally, nor sound defensively, but is turning out 7s and 8s in Manitoba and looking fairly solid.

3rd rounder (Atlanta pick acuired from Philly when traded Grabner)--Older kid, Walker Wintoneak RW passed over in other drafts, 20 now, In Manitoba and doing okay on right wing. Scouts call him another Novotny or Willis. All say 3rd or 2nd line. Save Snepsts--he says 4th line.

3rd round-Mark Mieritz RW--Left this one in Sweden and he is lighting it up.20 pts in 12 games with Frolunda Jrs. Scouts say 3rd line, Martin Havlat but slower stride.

4th--Andrew Clouthier C(another pick acquired in a deal, this one from Wild for Krog). Listed as a 3rd liner like Bonk. Lighting it up in Barrie...8.25 ratings.

4th--Mats Zucarello Asen--Norwegian kid, playing for Skelleftea, and Norwegian NTl team. Old guy *already 21 at drft time* 3rd liner, like Slava Kozlov or peltonen but bigger. doing well with Skell. But not well enough to earn a contract.

5th--Connor O'Donnell London Knights--LW--Not doing too well in development according to my scouts. Dropped from 2nd or 3rd liner after draft to a limited guy. But he is scoring a bit, and is averaging 7s or 8s so we shall see.

6th--Billy Lacasse C--Lewiston. Scouts have upgraded this guy. He was a 4th liner before draft, now they say 2nd or 3rd liner. He is over a point a game with Lewiston so will see how he does in next camp. Avg rting 7.6

7th--last pick of draft---Sylvain Emmanuelle--was with London, already dealt to Belleville. He is doing okay there, as he played his first game (I am in November) and scored and had an assist. 10 rating. So this guy is on the watch right now as a possible gem. Big RW, some of my scouts list as limited, some as 4th. Ron Delorme has as 2nd liner (changed since draft) and TOmmy Gradin as a 3rd. Interesting guy to watch here. Likely nothing comes of him, but who knows.

Training Camp

Impressive guys: Jannik Hansen, Cory Schneider, Cody Hodgson. Coaches kept raving about these three with their notes after scrimmages. Cody and Cory averaged 9.5 in camp scrimmages, Jannik a 9. Cody scored 4 goals, and Jannik 3. Noone was getting bad reviews. My top 3 draft picks did very well in camp (especially the first 2).

Hodgson and Hansen did enough to stick around to start the season, and Cody played 3 games, before I decided to send him back to junior. He of course, is lighting it up. Hansen did well to start the year. So well I waived Landon Wilson and then eventually dealt him to Dallas for a young Center prospect named Matt Tassone. tassone is playing in Swift Current and doing well.

after about 10 games, Hansen started to slow down, and Michel Oulett started to pick things up, so I sent Hansen down. He is in Manitoba and doing very well as my first line RW with Bolduc (and waiver wire pickup Per Ledin)

Ledin--came available and I grabbed him on waivers from Chicago. But he did nothing in his first 4 games..so sent him down.

Lucic-HAs made the team and has a steady spot alternating with Burrows on 3rd and 4th line. Gets pp time when team is winning!!

So Roster now looks like this:

D Sedin (Currently injured)--H Sedin--Demitra
Wellwood-Sundin-Bernier
Burrows-Kesler-Pyatt
Lucic-Johnson-Hordichuk
Oulett

Ohlund-Salo
O'Brien-Edler
Mitchell-Bieksa
Davison

Luongo
Labarbera

Note: The only change from last season's roster. Lucic is in...Landon Wilson is out. Oulett started strong, went down and now is back in the lineup with Daniel's injury...and is on fire with 7 points in 4 games. Hmm......

After 20 games, for the first time in a long time I am not in 1st. I am 4th. Calgary beat me in game 17 3-2 in a shootout. Guess how many points I am behind them?

My record... 14-5-1. Calgary's? 15-5-0. Ick.

quick update as i am on a different computer. 5th season with my blues.. think its 5th, could be 4th.. i dunno, i'm tired... well currently sitting in 2nd place in the west, it is march. and I for the first time in this game, made the playoffs, Heatley sits atop the league in points and goals. I also have two rookies sitting #1 and #3 in points, Nick Petrecki leads all rookies, also like a +14. Also signed a guy mid-season who was tearing up the ECHL, signed him without scouting, he was playing the in the AHL doing alright, much like the rest of the guys on Peoria. but I brought him up to fill in for an injury, guys averaging a a point per game. his names Jarret Bottomley or Jared.. can't remember. Unfortunately I'm going to have to let Gome go to free agency. I need the room for Tavares and Couture to step in to bigger roles... also with Patrice Cormier ripping up the minors, I may need Couture to play right wing. It's tough, I see myself not letting McKee go, but he's been bumped down the 3rd pairing with Artem Dubinin. 1st pairing is Colin White and Erik Johnson, 2nd is Nick Petrecki and Stephen Lund. Oh and I did deal Fleischmann to Vancouver for Ryan Stone, with no intentions of keeping Stone, but he's filling in on 4th line center. probably deal him for a pick or prospect after the playoffs. Sexsmith is averaging 7.7 in the AHL with a 22-22-22 record...

Managed to land the Thrashers their second Stanley Cup in as many years (now 2015-16), but the road was a bumpy one. After what looked like an easy cruise to the President's trophy, Atlanta chose the end of the regular season to play their worst hockey of the year. We dropped six straight to end the year, finishing one point down, allowing the Capitals to slip past us to capture the cup.

We did manage to turn it on in the playoffs, eliminating Philadelphia, Washington and Pittsburgh all in five games (and all on the road) before our seven game showdown with the Red Wings.

My top line all finished over 120 points, with five players scoring 30 goals or more. Marion Gaborik collected the Masterson trophy along with his second consecutive Conn Smythe. Ilya Kovalchuk played second fiddle in most catagories (Smythe, Lady Byng, Rocket Richard, Art Ross) and had to settle for the Plus/Minus. Mark Crawford won his second-straight Jack Adams Award. Jay Bouwmeester walked away with the Norris.

My final lines looked like this:

Kovalchuk - Tavares - Gaborik
Henry - Pouilot - Simo
Fedoruk - Stone - Asham
Smith/Majercik - Laich/Smith - Cole

Mara - Bouwmeester
Tallinder - Wilson
Plante - Bourgeois/Emelin

Alexander
Drouin-Deslauriers

My fist line, of course carried the offense. They seemed unstoppable at times, but my second liners came up huge when it counted. Ansel Henry (8-18-26), Tomas Simo (14-6-20) and Marc-Antoine Pouliot (7-19-26) were monstrous during the cup run. Henry and Simo each received raises and new 2 year extensions, while Pouilot was an absolute steal with one year left on his contract ($915k). Ryan Stone (claimed off waivers 11/5/15) was solid if unspectacular centering the third line. Curtis Sanford was jettisoned in early December for a 6th rounder after signing Drouin-Deslauriers (8-3-1, 3.33 GAA) as a free agent to back up Van Alexander in his first year as starter (38-22-2, 3.01 reg. season, 16-6-0, 2.40 playoffs). He may be challenged by Vanko Gnidenko, who led Chicago to the AHL Western Conference Finals.

Defensively, we are set for next season. All but Henrik Tallinder will be back next season. He'll be 38 next year, and there are a few defensemen in Chicago who are gearing for the shot, including Miika Santanen (6th rd, 2012) and former 1st round pick Cullen Conners (10th overall, 2012).

My biggest problem is Marian Gaborik. He wants a raise for next year (he;s an impending UFA) but I have so much money tied up, I'd be prettly close to the cap again:

Kovalchuck $7m
Bouwmeester $5.75m
Tavares $5.7m
Henry $4.4m
Wilson $3.8m
Mara $2.5m
Simo $2.33m

So, should I pay Gaborik the $5+m he's asking for, and basically forego signing free agents this season, or should I see what's available?

Went ahead and signed him. According to my finances page, I am a little over $3mil under the cap for next year. Somehow.

I'm in my first Season with the Sharks after turning the WHL Medicine Hat Tigers into a mini Dynasty. Mainly picked the them because they drafted my star Medicine Hat player #1 overall. Haven't used an NHL team since my Penguins squad (way to easy...Ryan Wilson was a beast lol). So I hope I can turn this franchise around and do a great job scouting and drafting.

Great stories, everyone. Keep them coming.

As for me, just finished the 08-09 season with the Leafs. Finished 1st in the Eastern conference, thanks mostly to an all-star defence that had the likes of of Niedermayer, Kubina (he's the best on the team), Bouwmeester, and Kenny Johnsson. The first line of Antropov - Briere - Cole was probably one of the best in the league, with Cole notching 114 points, Antropov 111 (with 71 assists), Briere 92 (but he has a recurring injury). Tavares got the Calder getting 81 in 82 playing on the second line with Kulemin (69 pts) and Higgins (72 pts).

(keep in mind that I'm playing with Lidas rosters, where the 08-09 season in real life is the 06-07 season in game - I refer to in-game seasons; etc. if i'm in 2009-2010, i'm in the 4th season, which woudl correspond to 2011-2012 in RL).

However, I had very bad goaltending. I rode rookie goalie Larsson all the way to the conference finals, where I was killed by the Rangers, who eventually won the Cup by beating the Canucks.

The Canucks were a very interesting story. They had about 8 career AHLers in their lineup filling out the bottom. So they pretty much rode Luongo (Vezina), Kovalchuk (Art Ross, Hart, 68goals), and Edler (Norris) all the way to the Presidents' Trophy and the finals, where they were killed by a stacked Rangers team that had 2 very good lines, 1 okay line, and 1 very good shutdown line, all backed up by All-star D with Lidstrom and Redden leading. Not to mention, Lundqvist was outstanding.

For me, it was off to the draft & free agency.
---DRAFT---
Traded up to get the 1st and 5th overall picks for my 2 1st-round picks this year, 3 2nd and and 2 3rd round picks in the next two years, Sam Ganger (first line pot), and Dmitri Kalinin (no. 3-4 defenseman, 7.2 AvR).

Drafted a 1st-potential right winger, and took a gamble on a rather small goalie with poor anticipation but high flair, who was recommended by all the scouts.

As for the rest, I drafted very well down the draft, getting some a 2nd-line pot player in the 6th and 4th-line pot in the 7th. Hopefully, they pan out.

--free agency--
Since I didn't know how RFA works, I lost Pietrangelo and Doughty to free agency. Managed to resign Doughty, however.

Other signings:
C Joe Thornton - 5yr @ ~6.85million/yr - VERY surprised that he accepted a relatively low offer.
G Tomas Vokoun - 3yr @ 3.8million/yr - desperately needed and the only goalie worth spending money on in the FA.
RW Erik Cole - 2yr @ 5.5million/yr - resigned him from FA.

Antropov fetched 5.2M for 3 years from the Ducks. His stats are pretty horrid, though - no idea how he put up 8.6 AvR and 111 pts last season.

After the above signings, board blocked my attempt to resign Pietrangelo, who accepted my initial offer :(

So the lineup going into 2009-2010 looks like
Briere - Thornton - Cole
Higgins - Tavares - Kulemin
Bodker* - Halpern - Eller*
Hollweg - Peca - R. Niedermayer

Extras that I will have to trade away:Gaustad, Tarnasky, Steen, Peca if Lander is ready (as batdad said, he never really panned out) - will possibly help me restock on the picks that I lost at draft day.

Defense:
Bouwmeester - Kubina
Doughty* - S. Niedermayer
Schenn* - Van Ryn

extra: Grossman

*rookies

Top 5 prospects:
1. C/RW Lander (1st line pot)
2. D Chaffin (1-2 pot)
3. C Jurica (1st line pot)
4. RW Lopatin (1st line pot)
5. G Vrbata (starting goaltender pot)

$4 mil over the cap right now :(

Ok, Matts Phoenix Coyotes attempt number 3! lol

First thing was to get rid of the poor coaches and scouts and bring in some new ones.

My Coaching staff is now:

Head Coach: Wayne Gretzky
GK Coach: Sam St. Laurent
Def Coach: Guy Charron
Off Coach: Bobby Charpenter

The Following trades were made:

Ken Klee & rights to Goncharov to MON for Komisarek
Rnd 4 (07 x2) & Rnd 4 (08) to BOS for Milan Lucic
Alex Bourret & Rnd 5 pick to BOS for Nokelainen
David Hale to LA for Rnd 3 Pick
Joaquim Lindstrom to COL for Scott Parker
Rnd 6 Pick to NYI for Nate Thompson
Matt Jones, rights to Long & Rnd 3 Pick to BUF for Adam Mair
Rights to Stone & Ruzicka to NAS for Hannu Toivonen & Rnd 6 pick
Daniel Winnick to NAS for Patric Hornqvist
Keith Yandle to OTT for Rnd 2 Pick

I then claimes both Ian Laperierre & Semenov off waivers.

Lucic, McLean, Turris & Bodker have all gone back to Junoirs and I thought I'd give Mueller a season in the AHL rather than have him on the 4th line and give Nikulin a chance in the NHL in his place as he always tears the AHL up.

So my team to start the season looks like:

Bryzgalov
Toivonen
(Tellqvist)

Jovanovski - Komisarek
Semenov - Morris
Sauer - Michalek

Hanzal - Jokinen - Doan
Carcillo - Reinprecht - Lisin
Fedoruk - Mair - Laperierre
Murray- Nikulin - Parker

Any comments/advice appreciated.

Obviously there will be changes made, escpecially to the defence as the season(s) go along.

MAde my deadline deals....

Kyle Wellwood went to Columbus for Raffi Torres.

Ryan Johnston went to Chicago for Jack Skille.

Team needed a bit of a shakeup. Hopefully Torres can supply that. I have called up Jannik Hansen, who made the team to start the season, but got sent down half way. I have also just assigned Milan Lucic to Manitoba, since getting Torres crowds the Left Wing, and he needs ice time.

So...

Sedin-Sedin-Oulett
Pyatt-Sundin-Demitra
Torres-Kesler-Bernier
Burrows-Bolduc-Hansen
Hordichuk Donovan (pciked up for a 7th rounder earlier when Ottawa put on block)

Ohlud-Salo
Mitchell-Edler
O'Brien-Bieksa
Davison

Luongo
Labarbara

Oulett has 21 goals playing with the Twins in 55 games. that makes him the best fit I have had for them...and maybe real life has had for him... Pyatt is hurt, so Torres filling in, and Hordichuk dressing. Hansen bumped to line 3

Well, 40 games in and game 41 will be the FIRST time i've been able to play my strongest team! A 'few' injuries have occured, including Jokinen for 5 weeks which didnt help at all.

Currently lying in 10th position.

GP W L O/SL GF GA PP PK PTS
40 17 16 7 116 121 12.8 84.8 41

The Powerplay needs desperate attention but hopefully I can now play a settled side and move into the playoff places.

Transaction-wise I made a couple of signings from Sweden who will join at the end of the season, aswell as a couple of prospects from the Atlantic Hockey League.

Hitting the headlines though are Robin Regehr who came in for Derek Morris. Samuel Pahlsson came in from the Ducks in exchange for Ian Laperriere and a couple of low draft picks and Mike Cammaleri swapped places with Steve Reinprecht to hopefully sovle my 1st line LW problem but has gotten off to a slow start, getting injured in his first game and missing 3 weeks!

So my current line up (which still needs much work) is:

Bryzgalov
Toivonen

Jovanovski - Komisarek
Regehr - Urban *
Michalek** - Semenov

Cammaleri - Jokinen - Lisin
Hanzal - Mueller - Doan
Fedoruk - Pahlsson - Mair
Carcillo - Nikulin*** - Parker ****

* Urban - a decent offensive defenseman prospect but still only 20 and would ideally have him in the AHL but I am struggling to find an offensive RD to replace him. He has 10 pts from 22 games.

** Michalek - Looking to replace him as soon as possible, hopefully this season.

*** Nikulin - Not doing well and only has 5 points from 34 games, despite being on the PP unit all season and had some time on the 2nd line. Am happy to ride him out until the end of the season.

**** Parker - Really disappointing this season. Only 5 fights in 36 games despite being switched to Beserk and not doing great in hits or points either. Am currently trying to prize Chris Neil away from Ottawa as a replacement but they are driving a hard bargain

Not sure if Cammaleri is good enough to put up big points on the 1st line and is a free agent at the end of the season so will see how he goesbut its early days yet as he's only played about 10 games.

Doan who has 51 pts from 40 games has been moved down the the 2nd line to hopefully guide Mueller and Hanzal and get them some points on the board.

The checking line of Fedoruk - Pahlsson - Mair is doing well and should last me a few season but as they are all around 30 I need to groom some replacements.

End of season 1 and for the first time ever playing in the NHL I missed out on the playoffs, on the final game of the season. I finished on the same points as Dallas Stars but they clinched the last play off place and forced me out.

Not helped was having Bryzgalov, Pardy, Cammelleri, Mueller, Carcillo & Mair all missing for the last 3 games of the season.

I added Pardy and Kristopher Letang into the defensive ranks which shored things up abit there but had to sacrifice Brett Maclean for Letang which angered both the board and fans.

So I finished the season as follows:

GP - 82
W - 37
L - 33
O/SL - 12
PCT - 0.524
GF - 242
GA - 238
PP - 12.5%
PK - 84.1&
PTS - 86

Bryzgalov & Toivonen shared the main netminding responsibilites with the following results:

Bryzgalov: GP 53 GAA 2.75 SV% 0.904
Toivonen: GP 36 GAA 2.77 SV% 0.897 (he was above 0.900 untill the last few games with the depleted team)

So I think I may offload Bryzgalovs high wages for next season and bring in a cheap back up for Toivonen.

My finishing team was:

Jovanovski - Komisarek
Regehr - Letang
Pardy - Semenov

Cammalleri - Jokinen - Lisin
Hanzal - Mueller - Doan
Fedoruk - Pahlsson - Mair
Carcillo - Nikulin - Neil

Cammelleri managed 38 pts from 47 games on the 1st line with Jokinen who got 95 points from only 66 games so I dont think I will renew his contract.

Apart from my dismal PP I really need to cut down on the amount of penalies I give up. I had 6 players over 100 PIMS which can't help.

Todd Fedoruk was a pleasant surprise with 32 pts from 73 games, 203 hits & 192 PIMS on the 3rd line and PK duties. Same goes for Adam Mair who notched up 344 hits, also 3rd line & PK.

Really need to get rid of alot of dead wood taking up alot of my limited salary budget, plus I have 5 or 6 Swedes and Russians coming in so it will be a busy off season.

2007-08 Canucks year is over.

Stanley Cup...defeated Montreal 4 games to 1. Yeah, the Lidas db makes a diff. Year 2 Montreal in the final! Cool.

Final lineup for the season was:

Sedin-Sedin-Demitra
Torres-Sundin-Bernier
Pyatt-Kesler-Burrows
Hordichuk-Donovan-Oulett
Bolduc (was call up and played a bit) Skille

Ohlund Edler
Mitchell Salo
O Brien Bieksa
Davison

Luongo
Labarbera

2008 draft, in the Lidas db is not great..3rd liners only by #30 in the draft order. Oh well.

Made a couple moves as Corey Schneider, Milan Lucic, Oscar Hedman and Jannik Hansen are ready for the show.

Labarbera--Went to Atlanta for 2009 2nd rounder
Pyatt--to Washington for Oscar Osala
let a couple guys walk to FA

Somehow managed to resign Luongo, Sedin and Sedin...who all refused to sign throughout the entire season. Right up til after the draft! Phew.

So I think my 2008-09 lineup will look like this:

Sedin-Sedin-Demitra
Burrows-Kesler-Bernier
Lucic-Sundin-Skille
Torres-Hodgson-Oulett
Hordichuk

Ohlund-Edler
Mitchell-Salo
O Brien-Hedman
Davison-Bieksa

Luongo
Schneider

Hodgson has to make the team, but if he goes to Manitoba and lights it up that is fine, may put someone else in there. Bolduc did real well as 4th line C in his call ups last season. 20 games in reg season and was 7 rating, and in playoffs played 4 and had a 7.2 rating!

Bolduc is a great example of a guy noone would ever think of using in this game. His attributes suck! But he plays well in a role.

How did Lucic do in the AHL for you?

in 06/07 season I sent him back down and he scored 116 points in Juniors.

Nothing spectacular as of yet. He averaged 6.8 in NHL so sent him back to AHL and he was 7.8. He is getting there, but his attributes have not changed much over the 2 seasons. We shall see..he is gonna get a big shot this season. I traded Raymond away because need Lucic to get more time.

Decided to try out an ECHL game... after the Saint John challenge, I figured to give another league a go...

Took Florida, as the affilliate for Rochester and The Carolina Hurricanes (neither the B's or Baby B's have one :-()

turns out with two NHL affiliates and 2 AHL affiliates - woohoo!

But... at training camp 6 of my players get called up... 2 get sent back... so I'm scrambling to find guys to sign... get a couple, but now 8 games in my top 3 players are out for at least 2 weeks, and my next best is suspended lol

tough league... I'm 2-6, 8th place in the division... eeeek! No Q here!

How are you having so much luck in the WHL? I'm in my 5th year at Prince Albert and, after 2 miserable years, have made the playoffs in the middle of the pack 3 years straight now.... once lost in the first round.... one lost in the 2nd round... and am currently down 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs.

I can only imagine Prince Albert being tough to manage.. like takin over the Islanders in the NHL. Or getting Canada a world cup in soccer. I tok over the giants in one of my games. but with sexsmith between the pipes they are unstoppable, however I found that skill isn't everything in the dub. I had a right winger rookie that scored 60 points, opened up an editor(because i was curious).. found he only had a potential skill of 15 out of a possible 200.

I haven't played EHM in a while, thinkin i might play alongside challenge 12, what I mean is I'll take over the Islanders and play them with those rules as guidelines, I know i'll break one or more of the rules.

As for my St. Louis Blues, well, i haven't started season 5, but after finishing 30th, then 21st, then 29th. I managed to get them all the way up to 2nd place in the west, where I went to the conference finals and lost to a 6th place Kings team that I struggled against all season. dropped that series 3-1. thats all for now.

After my 5th season with Prince Albert the Blue Jackets offered me a job, I took the position. It'll be interesting to try and turn around the Jackets. This is the first time I've ever played the game with real player names.
