Not only that, a lot of setting got changed for me.

Also, did the draft rankings disappear from the scouting reports on the player pages? I used that all the time...
I think the size of the patch determines if this happens or not, but it's quite frequent. Always check the preferences after an update. Luckily I change attributes to 1-100 so I always notice this instantly.
Handel wrote:Yeah I noticed that. The few times I managed to get the pick from the worst team, I never got the first pick in the lottlery. I guess it is random but maybe it needs to be tweaked.
It does happen, but if you think about it the odds that the first overall pick doesn't win the lottery (and therefore drops a place) are actually quite high. I believe it's 1 in 5 that the 1st overall pick actually stays first.
Really you should have just gone for the Oilers pick....

The rankings came back after the next rankings were released.

One thing that has bugged me since 07 is that some of the Canadian Junior A/B/C leagues in the OHL and QMJHL (CCHL, EJBHL, etc.) regions are filled with players from 14y/o to 19 y/o. They should be 16+ leagues, same as the Major Junior leagues. The result is that players are drafted to major junior having already played a year or two of Junior hockey.

Re: Feedback on the simulation

I just spent some time looking at the game after a few months off to see if any of the key issues (IMO) have been addressed. I simulated 4 seasons of the NHL using the full simulation setting. I looked at three aspects that bothered me in the past about the game to see if they had been altered in any way. The first was speedier defensemen being far more valuable than bigger, more physical defensemen. The second was wingers dominating in terms of overall points compared to centres. The third was that hitting numbers were far from their real life equivalent (this is the least important of the three issues I looked at).

After tallying some numbers, it's clear the game still favors speedier, more offensive defensemen over bigger, more physical defensemen.

Here is a list of speedier defensemen, most of whom are quite offensively minded.

Here is a list of bigger, more physical defensemen, all (except maybe Byfuglien) are regarded as being solid in their own end and some who excel on the offensive side of the puck also.

A few observations that I made based on statistics derived from the game compared to how things are in real life:

1) Kulikov is a much better defensemen in the game than Ekblad. This was not the case last year in Florida, Ekblad was better at every aspect of the game.
2) Vlasic and Hedman are comparable defensemen in the game. While Vlasic is a very good top pairing guy, Hedman is elite and among the best in the league.
3) Looking at two ageing guys in Markov and Chara, by the in game stats you would conclude Markov is significantly better than Chara. IRL this is not the case even with Chara's decline.
4) Cam Fowler, a solid number 2-3 defenseman in real life put up significantly better numbers and ratings than Shea Weber who in real life is a top 5 defensemen in the NHL.
5) Ehrhoff puts up much better numbers and ratings than Byfuglien. Again in real life this is far from the truth.
6) Del Zotto, a guy who is a 2nd or 3rd pairing player puts up significantly better ratings and stats than Boychuk who was a top pairing guy for the Isles last season.
7) Ryan Murphy, a good young offensive defensemen puts up much better ratings than Trouba who is already a top pairing quality player and is better in every aspect of the game than Murphy.
8) Andre Benoit, a fringe NHL player is miles better in game than Coburn who has been playing a top 4 role for years.
9) Spurgeon, a 2nd pairing guy puts up much better ratings than Hamhuis who made Canada's Olympic roster and is a solid #2 defensemen.
10) Bouwmeester and Hjalmarsson, two very comparable players in terms of impact do not look even comparable in this case, with Bouwmeester being the far superior player in EHM.

The second issue is that wingers are still dominating the overall scoring charts. This is a bit frustrating as centres should be on average more productive in every aspect except pure goal totals.

Here are the top 10 scoring centres over a 4 year sample size, compared to the top 10 wingers. The first lot of stats shows their total numbers over the 4 year span and the next lot of stats shows their pro ratad stats from the 4 year sample size over an 82 game season. As you can see, wingers obliterate centres in terms of scoring when as you can see above that is not the case.

Over a 4 year sample size, I've listed the number of centres in the top 30 of scoring, and the rank of the highest scoring centre league wide. I have also included the 13-14 and 14-15 NHL comparisons at the bottom of the table.

[th]Year[/th] [th]C in top 30 of scoring[/th] [th]Top ranked C in points[/th]

In real life 13-14 14 1st

Lastly, hitting is still out significantly. Below are the comparisons of stats from a single in game season compared with the 2014-15 real life numbers.

14-15 season
Top F (number of hits) 382
Top D (number of hits) 306
No. of Fs in top 30 21
No of Ds in top 30 9

In Game - 1 season sample
Top F (number of hits) 156
Top D (number of hits) 112
No. of Fs in top 30 30
No of Ds in top 30 0

If these three aspects of the game are looked at (especially the first two) I think this game's playability level will go through the roof. I spent hours on EHM 2007 but can't find myself getting into the current game with these issues. I figured since I went ahead and did the work and looked at the numbers I would post my feedback to this forum (along with hfboards.com) on the off chance it makes a difference to any future updates.

You should post it at SIGames forum, as that is the developers forum.
All three issues are game-driven, not database-driven

Also, you better off base your observations on CA/PA figures, as the game couldn't care less if you set Wayne Gretzky with a CA of 100

Just played my first game with the latest update and so far so good. My centers got points and a bit better ratings. The hits were in the 30's for both teams instead of teens and the team(me) that had the best board play also had the most hits. Not sure if d-man scoring is down or not but should be able to get a better picture in good time. :)

I really like the extra game stats being listed at the bottom of the box score as well. Kudos to SI and Riz ! :)

So center scoring is more accurate now? That's good. I have not played in weeks but this makes me want to play.

I've only played a few games but it seems to have improved. Only a season or 2 of data will tell for sure.

To me it seems like the goal scoring is a bit too high now but players should be getting more assists. Whenever i look at the league leaders the player with the most goals often had around the same as the league leader in assists where as in real life that's never the case. I'd like to see them tone down the goals scored and get players to put more assists up.

I just finished simming a couple of seasons and it's looking much better although wingers are still too frequent in the top of the charts. Generally in real life centres make up over 50% of the top 30 but wingers are still making up about 70% of the top scorers. I do agree with the goal scoring being a bit high compared with assists but it's more noticeable with wingers, centres are a bit better in that regard.

I have not really played a game passed 5 seasons or so, so i really have not encountered what you have another person on this board has seen but it appears that draft classes continue to get weaker every season. It gets to the point where no team is even close to that cap limit and most are around the cap floor. There should always be a steady stream of great talent coming into the league which will cause teams to sign them for big money and long contracts. That will keep every team from hoovering around the cap floor. There should always be teams that are close to being or are in cap trouble. That's just how it is in real life. Is Riz and the team aware of this i wonder? I would hope so.

What I'm really liking about the game is that it's not as easy to acquire highly skilled players via trading, almost impossible. That was one issue I had with the 2007 version. It was pretty easy to acquire franchise players for a couple draft picks and an average prospect. But now, if you want a franchise player? Be prepared to give up a lot or you better draft well.

To the developers. Are there any plans in the near future to do an overhaul on the game engine? I made a thread about this but it got locked because it got off topic so i'm fine with that. To me this game is great. There are issues that still need to be fixed but they will be fix in time i'm sure of it but there is one issue that is stopping this game from going from great to amazing in my opinion and that's the game engine. I don't think it comes up with accurate real life stats like it should in all areas and i think it has a lot to do with the fact that it's 8 years old and it shows it's age often. Maybe keeping accurate stats comparable to real leagues is not important to some people but it's one of the most critical things to get right. I love this game and prefer it over other hockey sim games in almost every area except the sim/game engine. I would rather the game get an upgrade in sim engines and have to pay $50 for the game then to keep it the way it is. I'm sure not a lot of people would be willing to do that but we've been lacking a great hockey sim for a long time and i think this game is close to be perfect.

IMO it's more a case of adjusting the game engine than overhauling it. I think the challenge is that the engine is so complex - it's not just generating stats, but simulating every moment on the ice. So when you make a minor adjustment on one aspect, it needs significant testing to see what knock on effects it might have. Adjustments to hits were made in the recent patch and I have seen comments that this has improved the engine in this respect. Hopefully we will see further game engine adjustments in the future which will address the other oft-reported issues. I think many people will agree with you that the game engine (and the trade AI) is the most important aspect to get right - but also the hardest too. My biggest hope right now is that the sales of EA have been enough for SEGA/SI to determine that a new EHM is financially viable because having Riz work on the game full time (rather than in between the day job) would allow the game to make much quicker progress.

Btw I think a lot of people think that the game is simply an 8 year old engine with updated rules, etc. That's not the case. Many things under the hood have been completely overhauled and are new. This is one of the reasons we have seen new issues crop up since the release of EHM:EA.

It's funny but those are the features that your typical person wouldn't notice but makes the game much better off in the long run. I have spent the last 5 months looking for the Dominic Hasek regen :joy:

Well when i said i'd like to see it overhauled i was under the impression that it was the same game engine as it's been since 07 with some changes since it's come back. If that's not the case then they should just continue to make changes to the engine until they get it right. I really like this game and i hope it's becomes successful because i think it's the closest thing to the perfect hockey sim that's out there today. If they could just tone down the goal scoring just a bit :) I still thing it's too high. This game has been in early access for what about 7 months now? I wonder how long until we know anything about the future of this game. I would gladly buy this game year after year if they continued to improve upon it and i know others would as well.

Hi everybody ! Great to see EHM returning to life =P~ I have tested it over the last couple of weeks and it is really feeling good ! I spent a lot of time making logos for many teams and leagues (more than 200) and really enjoyed it as well as I love editing graphics.Only problem for me, the screen resolution. I know it is only early access and it will not be fixed before a full game comes out, but I had to stop playing because of it as it made my eyes really painful after a couple of hours playing ... I have a 1920x1080 screen and played in windowed mode. Too bad I will have to wait until a full release but thumbs up for the great work done ! =D>

What is great :
More playable leagues (Switzerland, IIHF Div 2 /3)
Updated rules and leagues
EHM environment updated but still very familiar
Away team is always playing in white (a little detail which annoyed me in EHM07 in Russia, Germany ...)
The game engine is quite good, no surprise as 07 was already pretty good :)

What is needed :
Screen resolution
Editor (pre-game and save game)
Re-alignment options or Commissionner mode (like in FHM) : ability to create/move teams (like it's happening in AHL/ECHL), to move to a new arena etc
Champions Hockey League and World Cup ?
Display future hosts of international competitions (like in Football manager where it says for example 2016 Euro, Host : France, etc) ?

Well the editor is the 2007 one and you cannot edit everything (for instance you cannot edit leagues as you have to follow the 2007 league structure). For the future hosts I think you didn't understand me : I know that the future hosts are announced in the news but they are not displayed on the competition page (in information or under the name of the competition like in FM).

Partially after 15.13.0 update it is possible. I made Belarussian Extra League from Norwegian GET-Ligaen. You can change competitions name, roster rules and switch teams, but during the testing I had some issues (decreasing amount of players in created league) and I didn't solve it because of EHM EA crash after 15.14.0 update and I didn't have time to come back to testing this option.

But I'm rather sure it's matter of time when developers will simplify that process :)
