I think it's probably best to avoid words like wrong/bias when discussing opinions about hockey (or if doing so at least use a HaHa or Mr. Green or something)

I can't believe that the maximum is $5,000 - Vlasik makes over $50,000 per game; it's like a "normal person" getting a fine of $20 or less
Same CBA though, with the point being one said the maximum was $5,000 and the other said a different amountManimal wrote:The latter one is from 2013...

Watching the Leafs/Penguins (except for when I fell asleep for a bit in the second)...apparently the shots are 41-32, but wow (to me) is it boring - 70+ saves and I honestly can't think of one save I've seen that impressed me

Must be a bad source from our Finnish media. I've read all over the net that it's 5k and it's the maximum.nino33 wrote:Where? I think 5K is the maximum for certain fines for specific offences but it's not the highest you can get overall.

Re: Official NHL Season 2016-2017 Thread
Watching HNIC tonight I've been impressed multiple times with players who've knocked the puck out of midair with their sticks...and been unimpressed with multiple players who've had passes bounce of their sticks (I've read many times the wood sticks were better for feel/pass receiving/puck handling, but the new composite sticks are much better for shot power...with the amount of times players can't handle passes, they should go back to wood! HaHa)
The other things I'm noticing is how often shots miss the net.....I know that Corsi is based on all shots at (not necessarily on) the net, do they keep track of individual player shot accuracy? i.e. how many shot attempts, how many actually resulted in a save/goal (that to me would be very interesting to know)

Individual Corsi and individual shots on goal are both tracked so that info is out there, not sure if anyone has done anything with it though, accuracy would be interesting to have tracked.nino33 wrote:Watching HNIC tonight I've been impressed multiple times with players who've knocked the puck out of midair with their sticks...and been unimpressed with multiple players who've had passes bounce of their sticks (I've read many times the wood sticks were better for feel/pass receiving/puck handling, but the new composite sticks are much better for shot power...with the amount of times players can't handle passes, they should go back to wood! I haven't actually posted that much about the Wings, especially this season because bad teams aren't really worth arguing or discussing much about in general.nino33 wrote:Primis - given all your Red Wings related posts over the years, I'm surprised you think someone can post to much about a specific team

The individual Corsi shows only those shots attempts by the individual player, and not by teammates too while he was on the ice? If so, could you please provide a link to this data if possible? Thanks!Peter_Doherty wrote:Individual Corsi and individual shots on goal are both tracked so that info is out there, not sure if anyone has done anything with it though, accuracy would be interesting to have tracked.nino33 wrote:Watching HNIC tonight I've been impressed multiple times with players who've knocked the puck out of midair with their sticks...and been unimpressed with multiple players who've had passes bounce of their sticks (I've read many times the wood sticks were better for feel/pass receiving/puck handling, but the new composite sticks are much better for shot power...with the amount of times players can't handle passes, they should go back to wood! Yes, iCorsi is just for that one player, i'll look it up to be sure and edit this post
Edit: Puckalytics.com then set it to whatever parameters you want then use the 'individual' tab, there you have shots, icorsi, ish%, icsh% (icorsi sh% as in it counts missed shots aswell) and more
Example, Bergeron is at 70 shots on goal and 114 total iCorsi which gives him a shooting accuracy of 61%, meanwhile Marchand has 65 shots on goal on 127 iCorsi for 51% accuracy. Only looked at 5v5 here. I wonder if this means Marchand goes for the tougher shots (top shelf etc) more or if it's just puck luck.

10 in a row for the Jackets. Leading the NHL too I think? What's happening to that team!

Tortorella Fatigue has not set in yet. It probably will... they're on a run now and so he's much more bearable for everyone involved when they're winning. But it will stop, and when it does they'll fall big-time. He's one of those coaches guys can swallow hard and tolerate when wining, but are just insufferable if things aren't going as well. And the fact that they had this run will make him probably even expect more and exacerbate the problem when it comes.philou21 wrote:10 in a row for the Jackets. Leading the NHL too I think? Yeah that's what I'm expecting too. At some point they will run out of juice it's obvious. Can't wait to see how Torts gonna act if they're 2-8 in their next 10.

Maybe Torts will "lose it"/Columbus will "fall apart" but maybe not...philou21 wrote:Yeah that's what I'm expecting too. At some point they will run out of juice it's obvious. Can't wait to see how Torts gonna act if they're 2-8 in their next 10.
He's in pretty good company, as one of only a couple dozen who've won 500+ games http://www.hockey-reference.com/coaches/NHL_stats.html
People change, especially as they get older http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/john ... e-jackets/
Mike Keenan was a similar style at one point, and I never imagined he'd ever be a coach in Russia!

Re: Official NHL Season 2016-2017 Thread
Yeah I heard he changed since Vcr. I do hope it's true because he is a good coach. I also hope the Jackets can keep up and clinch a playoffs spot and pass at least the first round but most teams who have a sequence like they do currently will always fell short at some point. I'm not talking going under .500 though but it's not gonna be that easy. They ain't the Hawks!

That's funny because Russia is the place where you see videos of coaches literally beating kids. Keenan probably was seen as fairly soft in Russia.nino33 wrote:Mike Keenan was a similar style at one point, and I never imagined he'd ever be a coach in Russia! So the improbable can happen HaHa
Tortorella is what he is. I wouldn't want him coaching my team, because an implosion is always on the horizon.

The Jackets are destroying the Pens 7-1 right now. Make it 11 in a row!
