Virtually everyone on that list has ended up as UFA's at some point on my game, and mostly before their time. Malkin was unsigned for 6 months one season, played for me for 2 years and is now unsigned for a whole season (and won't sign). He's 36 I think and still has top line stats. Price has been UFA 3 times and still in his prime.
Pretty much every other player has failed to sign once and usually twice. I'm not sure teams are too good at keeping these top players, but hey those of us with cap room are doing alright!

Is there some kind of super-special tactic needed for the last 2 Min of the game?
The team always plays like dog-poo, especially if I'm down a goal and need to attack to get a goal. ](*,)
They are useless in passing. Getting out of their own zone. If they do get into attacking zone, by getting the puck on goal from the red line, obviously they suck in face-off, almost giving AI the puck.

Have you tried adjusting your tactics at that time?
Set your lines to "Just Two" to ensure your best/offensive players get on the ice + ensure your tactics are as offensive as possible (plus pulling your goalie of course)

Yes, I'm changing to "Just Three", but not two... The tactics is most offensive on the two 1st lines and normal/defensive on bottom 2

Hi guys! =D>
Sometimes when I try to adjust my player's game and try to use their best skills as much as possible I usually combine team/unit tactics with different personal tactics instructions. But problem which I've found: for example I set Hitting or Shooting for especial player for the higher than Normal level and what I see as the result (in game stats after this) is that this player didn't start to hit or shoot too much as I want! Is it only my opinion or someone faced with the same issue as well?

I figure this is the best place to put this question. I've been having an issue tactically on my own end. I'll get possession, no pressure on the player with the puck, then they'll just randomly dump it into our own corner rather than skating with it or passing to a teammate to try to clear the zone. And it isn't just bad players doing it, I've had David Krejci do it to me and it resulted in a goal. What should I be changing in my tactics to make this not happen?

Are certain tactics still overpowered in this game IE the whole barrage thing or have they since fixed that? I'v always avoided using a lot of the tactics because i didn't like giving myself the unfair advantage in the game.

Not sure what you mean by overpowered. The tactics in this game are variable. That is if you use the same tactics the AI teams catch on to you after a length of time, and you need to switch them up. I have never seen any one tactic as overpowered. Some users have success at making their teams great, but not others. When looking at stat results, you have to take what the user does out of it...because the user.. is a whole lot different than the AI.

So I've been trying out tactics a lot and I'm wondering if you guys were ever able to make a 1st and 2nd line have an even production. For example, with the Pens you have Crosby and Malkin. They work quite well together on the 1st line and I can make both of them score PPG consistently. When Malkin is on the 2nd line however, with for example Hornqvist and Perron, i can't get him to score that much.. I've tried using overload, using an offensive D-men on both 1st and 2nd line (and a shutdown, to do the real defense). Tried changing players up, but I keep having a lower production on 2nd then on 1st.

I'm looking for some help and suggestions for a tactical tweak for my defensemen.

So I just spent a few moments analyzing a goal we let in. A Minnesota player was left completely alone on the far side of the net, obviously he scored from a cross crease pass. What had happened (according to the 2D view) was that Gudbranson had tried to pinch the puckholder up by the blueline (by the bench side) as the Wild players were making their zone entry. Puckholder passes cross ice before he gets there, making Gudbranson look like a fool having to turn around and chase this guy back to his net. Slow as he is, he was far behind when the guy put the puck into a empty net.

Now I have him as a defensive D-man, with gap control set to normal as well as puck pressure. This of the very reason that he would be found out fast if he tried to stay tight or make wild pressuring play. What may be the cause of his stupidity on this play? It's not even unusual for my guys these days to leave a man alone at the far post or back up behind the goalline for no reason, leaving a highway for the attacker to walz into (this I assume is a grapical glitch though cause it makes no sense at all).

I don't mind defensemen to move up into the off.zone to keep a puck in play, but to leave his position like this is madness. Should I drop puck pressure to easy? I simply fear he would become too "nice" and let opposition player walk by him more.

Not really an answer to your question but you should adjust your gap, Normal is way too lose, unless you have some pylon on the ice that has like 10-11 speed. I would also up the pressure.

I also wouldn't pay all that much attention to the 2d engine.

Thanks for the tips! I've adopted this to my players and it seems to be paying off. Ekblad is even on very tight now and him and Matheson are super together. I thought having too tight gap and pressure with a guy like Gudbranson would make life difficult since he is like 9 for acceleration and 12 for speed, not the best anticipation either. But he is on the ice less for goals against now, it's been like 10 games since his last minus in +/- stat. :-)

Hey Guys, was hoping to get some tactic help. I've been playing the game on and off since EA came out and had some experience in 2007 and had a few questions.

I've tinkered with tactics since day one. I've ran through this thread at least twice, and I just can't seem to break through. For example in the newest db I'm playing with the Jets(surprise) and cannot get Wheeler(a player with really solid attributes) to be more than a 60 point guy no matter what tinkering I do! Same with a defenseman like Myers. Solid skater with good defensive attributes, yet I can't get that AvR above 7.5 consistently(a modest goal IMO).

So I guess my main question is... Once you guys set up your personal tactics, how do you adjust them?
Do you watch games? Full games? What info do you look for to improve your tactics?

Here's what I have so far, and while the results are okay.... I feel there's room for so much more. Any tips with what you would change, adjust, scrap, whatever would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

(Note: His mentality is set by line to be Very Offensive, along with Dumping the Puck at rarely and tempo at high)

You seem to be doing pretty good with Wheeler. I mean he's good, but he is no superstar. And to get to 80+ points, you need a really good player. Compare his attributes to those of say Crosby, Ovechkin, or some other top performer. 40 points in 55 games is quite good. The scoring in EHM has been toned down since the early days of Early Access. This is more realistic.

As for D-man ratings, that too has been toned down. If you can consistently get above 7 I'd be quite happy with that.

I personally adjust the personal tactics only a bit. I give good hitters the order to hit Hard, defensive defenders I order to play defensively (when the rest of the line is "offensive"), and little things like that. The other stuff, creativity, shooting, etc I do for the whole team or the whole line, depending if I'm going with Unit Tactics or not. I feel tinkering with the personal tactics can be a bit too much work, and only do so if I feel the player should be made an exception to the team-wide tactic, which I rarely do.

Other more tactically savvy guys may offer you more. :-)

Any way I could get a mod to move that post to the general tactic thread? That's where I meant it to go.
