Looks like Erik Cole won't be back at all these playoffs

Oh well, I wasn't really expecting him to. I would much rather him come back 100% next year than risk getting injured again this season.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; the deification of Jarome Iginla by the hockey media makes me retch. The guy's no Mario Lemiuex, Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier... he's not the Ultimate Hockey Player, and his "leadership" is on par with Sean Avery's. This guy is a punk and a terrible example on the ice but I'm sure all through the next game we'll get to hear about his gritty leadership and intensity :yadda: Because he came out and a minute in and goaded a rookie offensive defenseman who's all of six feet tall into a fight; can't handle a guy scoring on the powerplay so you have hunt him down huh? Really cool; great leadership! Also just for the record you just caused your team to spend five minutes without their best player at the beginning of key game as well, way to think it through  So with seconds left in the game and the opposing team having scored a late goal to clinch the game you use the final seconds to take a run at the opposing player and wail him into the end boards. I'd guess you'll be lauded for your great leadership and "sending a message"; well I got the message loud and clear Jarome and it ain';t nothin new; you're a classless gutless punk and it would be far to complimentary to even call you a bully. In my opinion you should be sitting out the next game but since you are one of the Chosen Ones on the always-gets-the-CALgary Flames you'll instead get focus pieces about your toughness and leadership and never say die attitude instead of a suspension.

Speaking of players embarrasing themselves; Detroit is coming close to stealing the Most Successful Losers tag the Buffalo Bills. I mean really, it's impressive how this is the second time they've won the presidents trophy and exited in the first round. Bring on the Retirement Watch for 3/4 of this team of dinosaurs! I hope this week's weather is nice in Detroit so you can get a quick start on your golf games.

Any day Detroit gets knocked out of the playoffs is a good day 8-)

But Iginla's BS and Calgary always getting the calls/non-calls in ther favor really tap dances on my last nerve :-x If you'd seen the CGY-ANA game you'd know what I mean; he jumped Beauchemin a rookie offensive defenseman, about a minute into the game right at the benches and challenged him to a fight (an of course didn't get an instigator because he's Jerome Iginla). Klassy. Then the game had three seconds remaining and the Ducks had the puck behind their own goal line and Iginla makes a direct 15 foot beeline toward the guy with the puck gaining as much speed as he can and wails him into the boards just as time runs out. It's pathetic; and yet these same kind of things last year are what prompted the hockey media to proclaim what an amazing leader and great player he is. Any other player would be suspended but Iginla gets the infamous 'Star Treatment' from the refs instead :bs:

I agree with Minty.

I just finished watching the game and I noticed both incidents, but that wasn't all I saw.

I never really liked Iginla.. That's why I traded him for Liles in a fantasy hockey league this year :D

Best trade I ever made :P

Hey Hey what do you say?!?!? CANES WIN!!! CANES WIN!!! OT game winner by Cory Stillman from the blueline :joy: Wow... this was a great series; this game was one of those you felt like the next goal would be the winner from the beginning of the second period. Awesome! :-D Bring on New Jersey

The Flyers got flat out embarrased again by Buffalo to end their series; 7-1. :-(

Seldom do you get exactly what you want out of anything, so I am just beside myself I'm so happy with the winners of the first round matchups! No Detroit, no Dallas, no Calgary! And three teams that I enjoy watching make it through with Anaheim, Carolina and San Jose =D> :joy:

Stangely enough the Top 4 in East made it through and the Bottom 4 in the West made it; which means that even though they are the 5 seed the Sharks could have home ice all the way through to the Finals. :-D

Going to be some real close battles this round!

In what has become the Black and Red Conference 8-)

Devils - Canes
Senators - Sabres

And the Underdog Conference:

Ducks - Avalanche
Oilers - Sharks

Both the Canes and the Devils used to have Green, though ;)

And how about the Ducks shutting out the Flames :-p

That was a great round, and I hope this one is just as good :)

Yeah, I used the old school green NJ logo in my alt logos/ices set

I think all of these matchups are going to be excellent though; all of these teams can really skate have some big firepower, big hitters and can also play D without grinding the game down into a pointless waste of time to watch... should be some great hockey!

As for the Calgary series I think they double underestimated the Ducks; first they figured they could throw them around physically and figured out that Anaheim could at least match them in that department then they figured that they could suffocate them on D and as it turns out Anaheim was just as effective defensively as they were as well. With those two areas basically neutralized it came down to that Calgary hasn't been able to score all year (they were the lowest scoring team of any that made the playoffs) but the Ducks have been getting scoring up and down their lineup all year. That eventually led us to the fairly ironic game 7 shutout thrown their way by Anaheim. It's actually how I saw that one going down; I always felt the Ducks were "winning" that series even when they weren't leading it in score or games won.

Senators/Sabres and Oilers/Sharks should be great to watch; they could both be series like Buffalos with Philly a bunch of 6-5 games :-D That one might just come down to whose defense and goaltender can best bend but not break.

Devils/Canes and Ducks/Avalanche will be really interesting to see; I expect them to be momentum games with teams finding a five or ten minute period of the game where they can dominate to seal the match but they're going to be closely contested games.

High scoring action in Ottawa tonight =D>

2-2 after the first. It's been fast-pace, but the defense is downright awful. :dunno:

Wow... who was the team that had just finished a tough series with Calgary? Because the Ducks sure didn't play like it! It was almost a carbon copy of the last Calgary game defensively; flawless basically. Back to back shutouts for Bryz :-o And Selanne is a freakin maniac.. I was surpised that Theodore started the 3rd actually. They really did play a near perfect game. =D>

That All-Star Game / Skills Competition disguised as Game 1 of the OTT/BUF series has to have had both coach wakin up screaming numerous times last night. :-D Unreal!! There were some rediculous plays in that game. There were 3 goals in the first 3:20 and then 3 goals in the last 1:37 :-o The announcers were saying "I wonder how long this OT will go?" and I said to myself as they dropped the faceoff "I give it thirty seconds." ;) Lasted a bit over half that long actually; 18 seconds, a new record.

The reason I think Buffalo will win this one after stealing this game pretty much still comes down to Emery's basic inability to stop the puck. :-p I mean seriously.. seven goals on only 23 shots! That's a .696% save percentage and letting in a goal every third shot or so simply isnt going to get you very far.

The only reason Ottawa clawed it's way out of the first round is because they had the luck of the draw in their first round to came up against the only other team with as many goalie questionmarks as they have. Miller won't play that badly again most likely and even if he does they have Biron to go to who has been at times brilliant this year. Ottawa has to start seeing if any of their training staff played goal as a kid or something... :-D

Marty needs to find out what Bryzgalov is eating for breakfast :-D

Two more great games yesterday =D> The Ducks are playing really impressive hockey right now and with series seeing 10+ goals a game to have back to back to back shutouts is amazilin' :-o

The Sharks, quite simply, are a scary, scary team right now; what an amazing display they put on in their first game with Edmonton... they out worked them in every facet of the game. If you have any chance to catch this series do it!! If you don't like watching these two go against each other ya just don't like hockey :dunno: This was one of the best games I've ever seen. Super intense, giant hits, amazing skill and speed on display, crazy good goaltending, and not a single player that even thought about taking a shift off. =D>

Amazingly fun and entertaining to watch. Much more so than that "they score on every rush" Buffalo/Ottawa game which had zero defense or goaltending. This is going to be great fun to watch and they go again tonight for the late game!
