July 1st and fired most of my coaching staff except for Rolie the goalie Melanson. Fired my assistant GM. Fired two trainers. Time to overhaul this team and win the Cup in our first season.

To take over as GM you have to retire the temporary GM I added (TBL Challenge). Once you've retired that GM, you should be prompted to add a new one.
He's talking about Pat Conacher, GM of the Comets.
Just add yourself as GM of the Comets and he'll go away automatically

Right,
I managed to do that with Vancouver, so all good there.
But Utica shows Conacher as the GM and I cant find where to retire him

No need to. Just add a GM for Utica and he'll disappear

When i go to the add a manager screen it will only let me select an NHL team

First you'll need to go to "Detail Level" and change the AHL to show "ALL". Then there is a dropdown in the add GM screen where it says "NHL". Click that and you should be able to choose AHL.
EDIT: This happened because when I simmed ahead for the save to work from, I wanted it to go faster, so I made it not show detail for any league but the NHL. You have to have the league on full detail to be able to take over a team.

Wow, the Comets have some bad coaches! Back to editing... No, just kidding. Save that for the future.
I'm gonna let them stay for the playoffs. That's fair to them(but they are getting fired no matter what afterwards, hehe)

Will this be the first challenge I take part in? I think so

Time for something new after reaching 2035 in my first EHM:EA game, started on release day. Happy 2 month birthday for EHM:EA celebrated yesterday by the way
I'll probably take over the AHL team, but can I be a "holiday GM" in the AHL? As in I'll be able to have the coach use my lines/team selection/tactics but I won't actually coach their games.

Yes. When I controlled my AHL team I've just made the staff changes and set the lines and then went on vacation. It's just too much to manage 2 teams at once sometimes.

I'm gonna play the Comets for their end of season as the Canucks has no games anyway.
A good way to see what your signed prospects go for

Sorry.... go to "Selected Leagues" under the gear icon. Change AHL from View Only to Enhanced.
That should do it.

Never had such problems to get rid of players I didn't want anymore as I have with the Sedin twins

Sorry for another question, but in this section:
Each season on June 15th the veteran age will drop. You'll have the option of trading away these veteran players or keeping them. The same restrictions apply here that applied the when you first took over the team but the age will drop
It says we have the option of trading or keeping, but also says the same restrictions apply as season 1.
Does this mean we must trade all players over the certain age each new season?
Or does it mean that IF we are going to make any trades, the trades must meet the restrictions (they must be over the veteran age, and we can only bring players 24 and under (and/or draft picks) in)?
Thanks!

From Season two, you don't have to trade your veterans. However, you may trade only one player under the age rule for that season.
The restrictions on what you can receive is still there

So, can we trade for players that are out on loan on their ELC? Like that Fucale trade..

Okey, so it took me 5 hours but i finally arrived at the draft with all my trades done
For the assets we had i got 3x 1st rounders (#20, #25, #30), a 3rd, a 4th and a 5th. The players i managed to get a hold of was, Kreider, Bjugstad, Dylan Olsen, Girgensons, Chris Tierney, Mikael Wikstrand, Oscar Klefbom and Adam Lowry.
I'm OK with what i got but at the same time i'm a little bit disappointed, i wanted a really good C but i just couldn't get a deal for one so i got some quantity instead, hopefully one of them steps up. I also wanted atleast one really good D but i failed there aswell, i did add some size on the wings atleast which i'm happy about and also stocked up with some 1st rounders. Would have liked a RW for one of the top lines aswell but yeah, finding the right deals is hard and time consuming and after a while i just tired out and went with what i could get.
Now on to the draft! I did not win the lottery so i will draft at #12.

AS long as they are signed, yes
So my team is very interesting. Not sure I like it save for one deal I made. You can guess who I had to give up to get these guys, if they are on the same line they came in the same trade. I did not deal for a single draft pick. No fun that way.
From NYI--Brock Nelson
From SJ- Mirco Muller, Brendon Dillon
From Win-Mark Scheiffle, Jacob Trouba
From CBJ-Stephane Morin
From Ana-Richard Rakell
THat is all.
Lineup
Nelson-Scheiffle-Morin
Conacher-Bonino-Jensen
Bartschi-Rakell-Kassian
McMillan-Matthias-Vey
Dorsett (Sestito if he re-signs, not sure if he does not who it will be)
Dillon-Trouba
Stanton-Clendenning
Tanev-Weber
Sbisa
Markstrom
Lack
THere is not alot of depth on this team, and I have NO PROVEN scorers to start the year. Trouba is the big winner for me. Morin maybe too, and I love Scheiffle but it takes him a bit to get going.
We shall see....not even at draft yet, took me all day to do that.
Turned down a few deals that I could have made
Bjugstad and Kulikov out of Florida (I have had Bugle before)
Kreider and Miller out of NYR
Toffoli out of LA--had to give up too much for him, which is good, because he becomes a stud.
I thought Dallas was going to take the same deal for Nikolishin that CBJ took for Morin...targetted the two of them. But...their board vetoed the deal. LOL.
I did not want to deal with the Blues, Bruins, Hawks and Flames or Oilers. Just because that seems wrong to me for Vancouver.
Washington was willing to give me Kuznetsova and Djoos in one deal but I wanted Schmidt (The other young dman) and they would not make it happen.
San Jose--would not give me Nieto or Hertl who I Would have preferred in the deal, but I love Mirco Muller, so that will help me.
All i know is if Trouba and Scheiffle do not do well for me, I am dead.

I was not so lucky in trading, but I think I could get a few helpful draft picks - at least I hope so.
In reward I got Zachary Fucale, Filip Forsberg, Maxime Lagacé, Radek Faksa, Boone Jenner, a 2nd rounder, 4x 3rd, 4x 4th and 2x 5th. I hope Jenner will develop well as a center, but I fear this will be my big weakness this season besides lacking a good first D-pairing.
The draft lottery went not really good, as I drafted at #12 (hey, didn't I see that somewhere else?

) and I didn't manage to get a good goalie prospect drafted.

I tried to make deals for Muller and Scheifele aswell but couldn't find any deal i was happy with, who more then the Sedins did you have to send to Jets to make that deal? Edler? Or even 2 more players?
I could have gotten Burakovsky + Schmidt from Caps but i just really wanted Kreider so i took him instead, for the Sedins ofc.. Harder to find a good deal for the Sedins then i anticipated i must say. I also got a trade vetoed, managed a really good deal for Yakupov but Oilers vetoed it, probably a good thing since that trade would have been highway robbery.
Just went through the draft and i drafted Marner at #12, #20 Kylington, #25 White, #30 Provorov, #42 Andersson. Happy with that draft, filled up on defencemen.
My most likely lineup to start the season is probably this:
Girgensons-Bjugstad-Kreider
Bärtschi-Bonino-Conacher
Lowry-Tierney-Jensen -------------------------------- I will give a O'Reilly and some of the prospects a shot at the lineup so this is far from set in stone.
Matthias-Acton-Kassian ---------------------------------- Not really a fan of that 3rd line so we'll see, it's too young, will probably change some stuff.
Vey, Dorsett, McMillan
My Defence i honestly have no idea how it will look, feel like i have about 10 D-men who are about the same, will see after camp. My gut says this;
Stanton-Tanev
Klefbom-Weber
Olsen-Clendenning/Sanguinetti
But Sbisa and Tömmerness are in with a shot aswell, all i know is that i will probably have my D on equal for the first half of the season until i know who delivers.
