Tonight i've been to the arena to see how our junior team did in the second phase of the season, in the upper group. And after a terrible 9-2 loss last week away, they did a good game tonight.

They were fighting against Roanne, who also lost their first game. In the first period, baby-Bélougas didn't seemed very interested in playing a hockey game, doing good things which should and must have been better with a higher determination on the ice. Roanne took the benefit of those lacks to end up the period with a 2-0 lead, but it was clear that we should win the game with more application and dedication to the team.

And this determination was in Bélougas heads at the start of the 2nd period! First minute of the period, they got a power-play, and force so hard that they forced Roanne to make an other foul, leading to a 5vs3 situation for over a minute. And the Bélougas did what had to be done in order that none of the penalties end up at the end of its time, with two consecutive power-play goals, tying the game at 2-2. And one minute later, they took the lead for the first time of the game, and won't let Roanne come back.

In fact, the second period was a real offensive demolition made by the Bélougas, with nothing less than 7 goals in the period! And as Roanne didn't have a backup goalie (i don't know why), they had to deal with the same goalie, no matter how many goals he would conceed.

By the way, 2 stupid defensive by D-man #92 Darce allowed Roanne to end the period by trailing 7-4. But even with those mistakes, Darce made a really good game, showing good stickhandling, good passing skills, and a good sense of hockey, finishing the game with 2 goals and 2 assists (maybe 3, but i'm not sure).

Bélougas started the final period like the 2nd: with 2 power-play goals, taking a lead of 9-4 after 45 minutes. Then they started to sleep again  resulting in 2 easy goals for Roanne. Timeout for Toulouse, who changes his goalie, and the coach remotivates his troups. Back to the game, around 10 second played after the timeout, and it's the 10th goal of the night for the Bélougas! :D 8 minutes to go, and there's a little fight... The two players are sent out (fighting in Europe is not a 5 minutes major, but a game misconduct ) and another Bélougas goes on the bench for interference. Roanne scores once again... And finally Toulouse will score what will be the last goal of the night after a hard forecheck and a good collective move.

Final buzzer.

Yes, the score is 11-7!!! :D Sad day to be a goalie! But good day to cheer for the Bélougas! :D

Today i went to the derby game between Jokerit and HIFK, latter being the away team. The reason i actually went to the game was because of the "fan battle" between the teams, since HIFK had over 1000 fans on 3 different sections, meaning it was the biggest away game 'fan trip' in finland so far. And the arena was sold out, 13 665 spectators in the game.

Game ended 1-4 in HIFK's favour. In first period we got a 1-0 lead when our 4th line scored on PP (yeah, sounds weird. i still havent figured why they played it. Not that i mind) around 7min in the first period. Rest of the period was controlled by HIFK. In second period HIFK increased the lead to 3-0. First scored our power forward Lennart Petrell, and the second goal of the period was made by our defender who doesnt really know the puck exists in the game, Robert Schnabell. 3rd period was mostly defeding by HIFK. Jokerit scored once on 5on3 PP, but rest of the period we were securing the lead, and in the end Lennart Petrell scored his second of the night, an empty netter at the last minute of the game.

Since HIFK changed head coach from Bob Francis to Paul Baxter, we've been playing a lot better.

Last games I saw were in Vancouver last March, beat LA Kings & Minnesota, before losing on penalties to the Wild.

Seen Penguins once, at Toronto in 2000, won 4-2 :)

Tonight it was the first game of the 2nd phase for the Bélougas! After missing the official first one last week due to a bus issue, we started only tonight, against Belfort.

In the first period, both teams were doing good things offensively, but the goalies always said 'no' to the shooters, and the period ended 0-0. Bélougas still have difficulties on the breakouts, with an awful lack of movement resulting in difficulties to clear the zone. When will they improve this???

In the second period, we started to sleep peacefully... Deeper and deeper... And of course, there was a sanction for that: 4 goals allowed in 5 minutes. Then we slowly woke up, and finally score a goal by Pourtanel on a slapshot to trail 1-4 after 40 minutes.

5 minutes into the third, and we just trail by two! But we'll never success to score more, and finally loose 2-4 :(

I won't say more about the game itself, as most of the game was made by huge mistakes from the refs (and you know i really don't like to spit on the refs). We should have lost even with good refs, but at least it would have been a real hockey game, not a refs party :bs:

I forget to mention some of my last games seen recently...

Tonight was another one. Last home game of the Bélougas of the season, against Le Havre. The Bélougas are already eliminated for the race to the semi-finals, while Le Havre is still in a big fight for it. For their last home game, Toulouse wanted to make a great game against a team mainly composed of Rouen's youngsters, Rouen being one of the biggest (THE biggest?) team in french hockey for some decades.

The boys did well, really better than a few months ago, and the game itself was really even all-game long. But on the scoresheet, we could see where talent was... 1-6 (0-1;0-3;1-2)! :-o We made only 4 mistakes in the game, but it lead to 4 goals  And we had hard time to score, even with great opportunities...

No regrets though... The intention was there, and that was all needed as we're already eliminated. And well, the opposition played faster, tougher, with more skills and better tactics, so it was already a miracle that the Bélougas did a such a close game on the ice (not on the scoreboard anyhow...)

Our youngsters still have one home game... But it will be against the strong Font-Romeu team, so we'll take a blow! :D

On 17 March, we'll have a Division 1 game, as Bordeaux will come to play a game in Toulouse, their arena being under renovation.

And one week after, captain #64 Escuder will have a event game before retiring. Sad to see him go :(

I haven't been a game all season. I had tickets for the Bruins' Feb 8th game against the Hurricanes but they were serious nosebleed seats (the last row in the whole Garden!). My girlfriend's stepdad had a friend that was getting rid of them and grabbed them for me. I had too much going on at the time and wasn't going to bother since the seats were so bad and the Bruins had been playing terrible.

Vancouver Giants-Everett Silvertips WHL game last night. One whale of a hockey game. The #1 and #2 teams in the WHL face off, and they ABSOLUTELY DETEST each other.

Game notes: Everett wins in shootout. Peter Mueller with the WJC penalty shot move on Tyson Sexsmith. Same one he used on Carey Price three times.

Kendall McArdle...opening faceoff beats the daylights out of Everett d-man named Crowther. One heck of a scrap. Everett d-man gets 10 min misconduct for improper equipment. This can be one of three things: No tie down (usually booted for this--and jersey never came off), No mouthgaurd---saw it lying on the ice after McArdle knocked it out with his fist, or.......PUTTING ON THE FOIL. AKA Taped fists. Hmmmmmm...

Wacey Rabbit--A costly giveaway to allow an Everett third period goal. But other than that, this boy can absolutely fly. Flat out fastest player out there. Boston should be happy one day.

Tyson Sexsmith--Brutal game. 18 shots, 3 goals. Granted he was cold as Vancouver dominated play. But he backs up to far, and does not get out of his net enough to cut the angle. 2 weak goals.

Leiland Irving--PHE-NOM-INAL.

Everett defense--With the exception of Fransoo..TERRIBLE POSITIONING. 4 or 5 times Vancouver forwards were able to bounce pucks off Everett d-men from behind the net, and they almost went in. 2 goals scored by walking out from behind the net 1 on 3.

Kyle Beach--out with broken jaw.

Zach Hamill===BRUTAL GIVEAWAYS behind his own net for 2 Giant goals. LAZY. Both walkout goals because of his giveaways and poor positioning by d-men to react.

Peter Mueller--Scary...so smooth, nice passing. quick and VERY SMART.

Milan Lucic---UN FREAKING BELIEVABLE how far this guy has come. Speed is now not only with the rest of the pack, but ahead of many. Still tough as nails, and the Silver tips were scared to death of him. Never seen him hustle so hard back to his own end. This is something he has been criticized for. Also nice to see him wearing an "A" now.

Cody Fransen---Horrid in front of his net.

Jonathon Blum-Awesome.

Brendan Mikkelson--Brutal last night, and has not played well at all since being cut from Canada's under 20 team.

Vancouver sucks in shootouts. Thank god not in the playoffs.
Vancouver ran Everett ragged last nite. Everett is scared of the Giants. No question about it.

oTher: Chilliwack Bruins continue quest for expansion year playoff birth with come from behind OT win over Kamloops Blazers. Oscar Moller is on fire, as is a 20 year old whose name I cannot recall who popped 4 goals last nite I believe.

Lucic-snapped at the end of the game on a SilverTip who took a shot at him with his stick. Tossed just before the shootout with a Gross Misconduct (I think he spat at the 'Tip). First time I have seen him do this in a Long long time. Not good.

Final note on this game and the Giants: Giants will not win the Memorial Cup with Tyson Sexsmith as their goalie. They are in big trouble in that area. Dustin Slade, a donut head who shot himself in the foot when he quit the Giants was right on this point...they could have used him more than they thought. Tyson nowhere near as strong.

On another note: Kyle Turris #3 ranked by McKeens for this year's NHL draft lit up the Victoria Salsa last night in BC junior League hockey with 7 points. This guy is FOR REAL> FOR SURE!!!!

Note to self: Stop posting such essays. Got going on the game last nite, and could not stop. on a roll. Sorry. :-D

Last game I went to was the Chilliwack Bruins vs Everett Silvertips game in Chilliwack last Sunday.

-Beach broke his jaw in a fight after the first goal of the game

-Mueller didn't travel with the team because he didn't have sticks :dunno:

-Irving let in a bad floater goal in the first period, reminding me of Lidstrom scoring on Cloutier. Otherwise he was very good. We met him after the game, got some photos signed, real class guy.

-Hamill has definetly got skills, but he really needs to pass more often. He was a pretty nice guy as well.

Last NHL game I went to was the game against Florida last month, not the result I was looking for but can't complain about watching the game from box seats.

Next game: Tuesday March 6th Vancouver Canucks vs Tampa Bay Lightning.

Sorry about the snippage but I just wanted to quote what I wanted to comment on. First off, thanks for that report. It's nice to hear about what's going on with some prospects. So what is the deal with Rabbit? He was in Providence earlier this season, I thought. Did they send him back to his junior team as an over-ager? I've heard he's speedy. Does he look like he's got a real chance to play in the bigs though? Lucic is an exciting prospect. If he keeps progressing as he has, he's going to make the Bruins scouts look like geniuses. A lot of people were scratching their heads when they picked him. He's changed a lot of minds since. I know he's been talked about quite a bit in a couple of Bruins groups I read. People are really excited about the type of player he could become. It's nice to see the kid is putting it all together.

Thanks again!

Rabbit was with Providence, and I do not think he was getting alot of time. Around the end of December the Giants began speaking with his agent, and Rabbit expressed and interest in coming to win the Mem Cup with Vancouver, and helping to be a leader in the room. The Giants then spoke with the Bruins and all was okayed. Rabbit has been amazing for them and a great addition.

Lucic could be a very scary late bloomer. His snap at the end of the game was based on his belief that the refs had missed Peter Mueller spearing him in the ummm midsection during OT. He unlaced a verbal barrage that shocked even the SilverTips because Milan, although agressive is known as being very calm. He now is suspended for tonights game vs. Kamloops. A big one for the Giants too. And they may be missing Repik who was elbowed in the head by one of the Tips dmen on Friday. Not a good scene.

And thanks for being okay with the essays.

Oh, and apparently Beach would have played but he was off to the Canada Winter Games along with a couple of younger Giants.

Chilliwack thumped Kelowna 7-1 last night. OMG, the Chiefs are gonna make the playoffs. Hopefully the Giants get them...that would be awesome as the cities are only about an hour or two apart, and could drive to both rinks for games if I have the time, and the baby sitting assistance!!!

The 20 year old Chief lighting it up is Josh Asperlind...darn he is on fire.

My last live game was January 16, ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones vs. Johnstown Chiefs. Cincinnati scored the game winner with 8 seconds left in overtime. The final score was 5-4.

The last NHL game I went to was Columbus vs. Chicago in December. The Hawks jumped way out in front before the CBJ came storming back. Chicago still won but it was a fun game to watch.

Well I'm kind of glad that Rabbit is back in junior right now. He wasn't doing much in Providence. I'm guessing he wasn't quite ready yet. Either way, he's better off getting the ice time.

I think Lucic will be okay. Even the best of them snap sometimes. I actually saw Ray Bourque snap before. Sundin infuriated him somehow this one time and Bourque went ape! I had never seen that before!

Went to see Edinburgh Capitals come from 2 down to beat the belfast Giants 3-2 win. Good win and they are doing well considering they have 3 less imports from the rest of the league a true spirited performance scrappy at times but they got their just rewards. Belfast just didn't seem to show much heart when they were playing.

I will go to watch HIFK - TPS game tomorrow, which will be the most important game for both teams during this season so far. I'll write some kind of report after the game.
