It should all be done based on the formulas in the spreadsheet, which is based on your role settings. I don't think you're supposed to be "borrowing" points from one area to plug into another. The formulas were set up to balance things out.

I kind of wish that we had the aggression/fighting category for goaltenders. I would like to make a mean and dirty goalie that will slash at people in his crease and drop the gloves so he can meet the opposition's goalie at center ice.
But maybe I'll just make a mean defensive center with good creativity and passing but absolutely no flair.

Well the person running the game has been in this thread since the question was asked and has not said anything about the question. The character I am trying to create is one who shuns all defensive responsibility and mostly just plays offense. So borrowing points from my defensive ratings would be something I would want to do.

If you look at the spreadsheet, in the player role section, you will see that you have a total of 30 points to allocate. The maximum allowed by the game's database is 20 for offense and 20 for defense, so with our spreadsheet limitations, you could have a player with 20 offensive points and 10 defensive points. That will use all 30 of your points. You can't have 30-0 or 29-1 because it's not compatible with the EHM database.
This is what you start with:

As a suggestion, since the defensive abilities that get the attributes are checking, hitting, pokecheck, positioning, and strength, is to add most of your points to strength, then positioning, and then maybe hitting. That way your offensive star is strong enough to make a difference.

you don't necessarily need to use all 30 pts anyway, well in the game for example, Alexander Semin has 18 offense, 5 defense and scouting reports call him a "a purely attacking player" who's a Goal Scoring Forward... so what about just setting your player to be 20 offense and 4 defense?... 4 instead of 1 because 1 through 3(defensive role) sets you to have negative points allowed if every attribute is set at 1.. but with a defensive role of 4 you go from:

It should all be done based on the formulas in the spreadsheet, which is based on your role settings. I don't think you're supposed to be "borrowing" points from one area to plug into another. The formulas were set up to balance things out.
Well the person running the game has been in this thread since the question was asked and has not said anything about the question. The character I am trying to create is one who shuns all defensive responsibility and mostly just plays offense. So borrowing points from my defensive ratings would be something I would want to do.
No you can't, the limits are there for a reason. If we set the limits too high, or let users borrow offensive or defensive points, then the players turn out too good. We are going for a more random element to the game.
