His coaches told him it would be a breach of contract if he misses practice for that reason.
He decided it was worth it and went anyway. Now his team has fired him
That's really stupid! Why not just watch the game on TV?
More importantly: is he any good?

My local team Oxford City Stars in the UK are an 'import' player light at the moment?

Typical "Finnish meltdown". :-D
Riga is so hard opponent for Jokerit.. I really like that team TBH.
Haven't watched that many Jokerit games in this season and missed this one too, so can't comment anything else. :**

I was watching the game online... When they made it 5-1, I already had a feeling 'twould end like this. Jokerit have been performing in an appalling manner lately, and one could see from the look of Dinamo's players that they did not think the match was over.

Today the Deutschland Cup has ended.

Germany won the decisive match against the USA (better say Ryan Zapolski) with 5:2. Thus we have won the tournament. With our new GM Marco Sturm and his coaching staff I have seen good Hockey. I hope that the boys can show at the World Cup related performance.

small note: Ryan Zapolski (for me, he has a good chance of an NHL team) and Benedikt Brückner with great saves

Significant better playful performance, overview and understanding of the game against at the World Championships in Prague. Large drawback still is our finish. We need too many good chances to score a goal.

Of course, it must be considered that the squad of other teams no well-staffed as at the World Cup. But the US Team have played with many good players from Swedish, Finnish and KHL league. It's nothing to sneeze at.

What do the Eisbären supporters chant after they score? If I understand correctly, the announcer says: "Eisbären!" to which the fans reply how many they have scored. After that he says the name of the away team, to which the supporters react with "Nil!" and after that they say something about which I have no idea.

Last year I found this YouTuber with games from the Swedish/Swiss Leagues, and CHL games too https://www.youtube.com/user/MrSeesar/videos

Noticed there's 2015-16 games now too, and...the first couple Swedish games I've clicked on have English commentary! Very helpful for me, as it's hard to have on "in the background" while I work on editing when I can't understand what's being said (results in to much watching, not enough editing HaHa)

I'm sure most of you guys remember Akim Aliu, he's finding a new life in Russia. I really enjoyed writing/translating this article, therefore please read it :)

I'd never heard of the guy (at 26 he's only played 7 NHL games)

To me, he is most known for the incidents in junior where he did not approve of the "rookie-hazing" on his team and fought the team's star (Steve Downie) in practice.

He was a good prospect in the OHL, I'm fairly surprised that you "never heard" of him...
Also a second-round pick.

I lost interest in the NHL/modern hockey 20 years ago
When I discovered EHM I had an increase in interest for awhile, but it didn't last.....

I knew/know the hockey I grew up with completely, but modern hockey...don't follow it enough to remember prospects who never panned out (even if they were 1st rounders), and last month I finally got rid of TV/cable completely so that won't be changing HaHa (so I follow the NHL the same way I follow the KHL, watching highlite packages on youtube...and I watch more European/Russian hockey on youtube than I do the NHL.....but even then, it's "the game of hockey" I'm watching and enjoying and so I'm not really focused on names and personal stories)

Yes the say Null! as the away score , which never changes even if the Team scored 3 Goals jsut to mock them.

Then the next words are in relation to that: "viel, viel, vielzuviel, Scheissverein!" which translates to "way way way to many (Goals) , Adam Oates club."

Alessandro, know anything about this?

KHL President Dmitry Chernyshenko confirmed receipt of applications from all four nations earlier today, per Tass.ru

“At the moment we have a request from Estonia, Sweden, the UK and other countries, – said Chernyshenko – certainty will come in April.”

Thought I'd upload this small clip here to showcase Finnish fan culture for the people interested. The video is from the game between KooKoo and SaiPa on the 9th of January, 2016 and it shows just how many SaiPa fans attended the game played in KooKoo's home arena. The great thing about this is that most of the SaiPa fans came there by their own train which is quite unorthodox but also impressively unique. The attendance was the arena's record of 5612 people, including over 1000 fans of SaiPa. With the great support SaiPa dominated and won the local derby 1 to 8.

Yes, I shot the video, I wouldn't use it otherwise.

Actual highlights of the game.
