Great news for my team, Espoo Blues. They've been accepted into... umm... velkasaneerausmenettely. I have no idea what that is in English, but just add something very business-like there, if you like. Well, not exactly the Blues team, rather the company that owns the ice hall, but as far as I know, they are pretty much the same thing, or at least closely connected. Anyhoo, it means they'll go thru the same steps to pay back their debt as Pelicans did in 2004, who are still in the league, doing well.

Except Pelicans didn't have so much debt as the arena user company and the company behind the team. We're living interesting times to see if we are going to keep playing in the SM-Liiga or somewhere lower next season... Basicly it's up to the other teams and their owners if they accept Blues to play in SM-Liiga while they are in velkasaneerausmenettely

Yah, I don't recall the details of the Pelicans situation, it was just mentioned in an article as being a similar situation, and I vaguely remember it. It is in no way clear sailing for the team from now on, but a positive result, nonetheless. I honestly see no gain for the league in kicking Blues out. I think it'll all play out good in the end. (Pun intended.)

Yeah, especially now that Jokerit are out, it could be very harmful for Liiga to have just one club located in the Greater Helsinki area. And they are certainly not going to promote Kiekko-Vantaa.

I have never properly followed Swedish hockey so I just now came across this when I finally started an EHM save in Sweden: how come no teams from Stockholm play in the Ericsson Globe? It's newer and bigger than the arena called Hovet which in both Djurgårdens IF and AIK seem to play in, at least according to Elite Prospects. Do I have something wrong here or why aren't they using the arena the Swedish National Team uses/has used? Hopefully a Swede can make this clearer for me.

Do I have something wrong here or why aren't they using the arena the Swedish National Team uses/has used? Hopefully a Swede can make this clearer for me.

Because it is too big and has naff views. 6-7000 in Globen feels empty while it is almost full at Hovet.
At Hovet, Djurgården has a great ambience with the chanting crowd. They rarely play music as the crowd chants and sings so loud the music isn't necessary.

Maybe with some South-Korean funding.. in Finnish hockey scene everything is possible.

Jokerit fans arranged a protest for tonight's game due to SKA's goal song being played when they scored in their latest encounter. The majority owner of Hartwall Areena and minority owner of Jokerit, Roman Rotenberg, also owns a portion of SKA, and has publicly declared to be a fan of theirs. Apparently he had earlier wished that SKA's goal song would be played should the team score.
The mini-tifo was not used due to KHL censorship, but the fans still had a walk-out. Why the usage of banners was forbidden is not known, but I personally presume it has to do with Rotenberg being Jewish (Jews and rats are commonly compared in anti-semitic propaganda).

Maybe with some South-Korean funding.. in Finnish hockey scene everything is possible.

That would be hilarious, since they would probably have to build a new rink entirely, as Trio Areena is nowhere near Liiga requirements.

Thanks for clearing it out. Do they use Globen for events other than hockey then? It'd seem like a waste if they only used the arena irregularly and I also believe someone would lose a lot of money were that the case.

It is mainly used for concerts, event and stuff and sports is secondary. I really like Globen though, it is cozy when it is filled.

Why must KHL insist on adapting the worst aspects of NHL? (Closed series, franchise teams, waivers, draft...)

Waivers are IMHO a good thing.
Most likely this year's draft will be the last one, but it's not 100%

From a user standpoint the KHL (and the leagues below it) are super fun, when I read about them, I really want to start a career there. From a developer standpoint, it is less fun and more hard work to get it all right. Will be a nice fight to get all the changes (and what we miss so far) into the game.
