I always wondered why too. My guess is that they already reached their potential and they won't develop more.

My Question is about scouting results. Sometimes i scout 18 year old players and there is no future rating, only current. Why? I scouted them with 2 or 3 Scouts....
It means, while I won't say 100% of the time, that the player has reached it's maxed potential. But you must scout him with a lot of scouts to be 100% sure. After reading this thread, I put 5 scouts minimum for every players I want to trade for or draft and the result has been way way better than what I was doing before.

Is there any advantages in scouting the CHL, NCAA, and other major junior leagues individually/specifically instead of just the entry draft ?

Sometimes you can find good players that are not ranked with scouting the leagues one by one. Usually I scout both the draft and most of the junior leagues.

With scouting, what do you do if the report has "Brings A-game when needed..." and "needs to improve consistency"

I would think that those refer to hidden stats "Big game" and Consistency. Consistency is low and big game stat seems to be quite high

My understanding is both refer to consistency, which is why it is confusing. Wonder if it just balances it out?

Saapas is correct. A player can easily have low consistency but high attribute in 'big games'. In practice a player like this could or could not be underwhelming during regular seasons but could well be the deciding factor in you final game.
I had a winger like that once. Scouts were complaining not only about his consistency but also decision making.
And his visible stats were mediocre to say the least.
Yet somehow he managed multiple 100+ point seasons and averaged more than 1.3 points per game on his playoff career, winning Conn Smythe twice along with several other trophies.
The funny thing was there was nothing that stood out in this player; he was simply scoring at a crazy rate for no apparent reason, all the way form juniors to Stanley Cup finals. Once he scored 29 points in 17 playoff games with 9.0 avr rating. He regularly outshone Alex Ovechkin and Tyler Seguin who were on my first line even while playing less minutes than then and mostly on the second line. And he was even an excellent penalty killer. All the while scouts were complaining about his consistency and decision making...
One interesting thing happened towards the end of his career though. Scouts stopped complaining about those attributes. But they aren't supposed to improve, are they? So why did those complaints both vanish from all the scouting reports after he'd played multiple NHL seasons?
......
Now my current game has a Bo Horvat who's said by the scouts to 'give his all at both ends' AND be 'a pure goal scorer' at the same time. What gives?

The way I see it is that he's simply a good two-way foward that is good at scoring goals. It's not because he's a "pure scorer" that he can't be good defensively.

OK, thanks. I thought the 'pure goalscorer' meant that defensive role is small, but thanks for clearing that up!

Found a prospect whose projected player role is "quick offensive forward". I don't recall ever seeing that before. Would anyone happen to know what this actually means and why it is so rare to see this role appear? Thanks!

I think it has to do with attributes and mentality. Chances are they have low stats in positioning, pokecheck and checking, but high offensive stats. Also probably fast skaters lol

I guess you're right. Has to be a rare combination of attributes though, if such a role almost never appears in-game.

I think it is. I have seen it but it is not common.

Shindigs... I love your very in depth post in the opening post.. My question is I am playig Major Juniors soe the players ratings picking a 14 year in in a WHL draft won't have good ratings so taking from what I just read I am looking at mainly what the scouts say about him and your few ratings that you filter correct?

FYI - Some clarification regrading the definition of the Pressure Attribute
The OP notes Pressure: Helps players deal with high puck pressure teams and presumably is also quite helpful for high pressure situations like shootouts and special teams & the TBL Attributes wikipedia page defines Pressure as How well a player handles pressure. Very important attribute for all players. Players with a rating below 10 struggle against an opponent who uses a pressing style of play and skilled forecheckers.
In my notes and on my wall chart from years ago I had Pressure defined as "How well he handles pressure (e.g. when a team in a higher League shows interest)"
I stumbled upon this difference last month, and I asked Riz for clarification and he said the Pressure Attribute is about how mental pressure is handled (like pressure from the media, interest from other teams, signing big contracts), and that he can't recall there being a link to ingame play (like handling forechecking)

If professionalism can bring up work rate or determination, has anyone had experience testing this when one attribute, say determination, is at 18-20 and the other, say work rate, is at 6-10? Will the player get upset since one is is still very high?

Just wondering if there was a way to just scout players wanting to go to college?

You can scout the american and canadian junior leagues (IE not major junior) but there isn't as far as I know a way to specify that. One thing that is helpful is going to free agents when you coach a college team and filtering out the unrealistic targets or whatever the button is called. Those guys will at least humor college contract offers

From exploring the forum I found the EHM assistant add-on utility which is kind of a "cheat" but you could go as far as searching players by junior preference (IE college) and then sort by current/potential ability even.

Sorry if question is silly but aren't star ratings directly linked to line projections, at least in NHL? All the times, in EHM07 and then in EHM 1, I've been seeing scout projections like 1st line = 5 stars, 2ND line = 4 stars, etc.
