Ooh..that is bad. Wow. I don't think there is a league that weak in all of North America. Not even Tier 10 Atom (which is 8 and 9 year olds)

God, I wonder how bad the Finnish 3rd division must be. Drunks on ice??? :-D Oh wait,.. that is the first div. Meth heads on ice is 3rd div I guess.

Archi, most of the money that is flowing into the teams' coffins in SM-liiga comes from a hefty new TV-deal with Canal+

Hockey is still our number one sport, and will always be! =D>

SM-Liiga had best days in late 90's.. too bad that Liiga might end in the near future.
Or have anyone else hear anything about Nordic League, there comes teams from Sweden and champion teams from Denmark and Norway.

Finnish teams should be HIFK, Jokerit, Kärpät, Tappara, and TPS.
Swedish teams are HV71, Frölunda, Linköping, Färjestads and Djurgårdens.
This league might start at the earliest 2009.

SM-liiga won't "end". Where would all the other teams go then? If HIFK, Jokerit, Kärpät, Tappara or TPS decide to give another league a try, by all means, let them. It does in no way mean that all the other teams will stop playing.

And wether or not the 90's was the "Golden Age" of Finnish hockey, is a matter of opinion. If we measure it by team finances, professionalism, international appeal etc., then I think not. If by nostalgia of remembering "the good 'ole days", then maybe so.

Tony Hand probably played for that 1900 team in the UK Shadd. So..well...of course they won. I mean come on, he was a god! Oops, I mean is a god.

Finland on the other hand...well they gave us the immortal Janne Ahonen. He is second only to Kaisa Varis in superstardom and ability. :-D

Yes, ski jumping is pretty popular here. But hockey is the undisputed number one sport by attendance, tv and media coverage, and fanbase, by far.

I don't think anyone going by the name of "Tony Hand" should be allowed to become famous in anything. It just doesn't sound right.
