I am all for an update to the attributes.

I agree that there will be a lot of homer fans out there trying to improve their favourite players but surely if we can get a unanimous agreement on certain players we should edit them? For example, I am sure everyone on here agrees that Antero Niitymaki is overrated in the default EHM db. Also, we could edit the db so that Marc Staal, Bobby Ryan et al are harder to trade for. I tend to play in the UK leagues and they are horribly done. I use an edited database myself just for the UK leagues, but it is now unfortunately out of date. For starters the shortnames of the EIHL and EPIHL teams should be their city/town names rather than their nicknames as that is how British fans call their teams, and for seconds Elite League teams sign players who wouldn't make it to the ENL (3rd tier of UK) and some of whom play in real life in recreational leagues!

Rant over.

I'm all for this too, i've added minor updates to my database, which makes all goalies better, as i see that players like Joel Gistedt and Antoine Lafleur are absolutely rubbish, i have improved certain attributes of theirs, like i have noticed that most goalies "Faceoff" attribute is set to "0", which means it will be random, so i have set these to "1", as goalies dont need faceoffs, they dont need other attirubtes so i have set these to 1 as well, i have also changed some european prospects, such as Cherepanov, who ive noticed is -13, mking his future not that bright, i have made him so he will have a decent future.
But how would we decide fairly, without biased opinions on players, to do this?
We would need to get an unwitting member of the public who doesnt know anythin bout hockey, kidnap them, lock them in a room with millions of videos, and say you don't get to leave until you've judged everyone!

Folks-I hate to say it. But the likelihood of an accurate update on attributes coming from here is slim. We have discussed this before, and I am sure it will be spoken about in the future again.
1. who has seen the Flyers play every game so they can accurately rate guys? Has this same person seen all the Wightlink games so they can rate their players? have they actually watched those players individually play the game? what are the person's credentials?
2. Not even an NHL scout could take on this task. It is way too much. It has been explained before, so I am not going to get into it again.
3. Here is a personal example: Joni Pitkanen. Flyers suck, he had a horrible year. He came in with high expectations. THe game gave him a high potential, and a high rating...Pitkanen becomes an All star.
Now--Pitkannen not playing well in real life. So..a bunch of people say "lower his attributes, he is not that good". So we do, and he becomes a 4th-5th defenseman like he is playing at in RL.
Now...next year, after the move to Edmonton...lets say Joni becomes Bobby Orr in real life...so what happens on this board? What happens then? We get 20 people saying.."Come on Pitkannen is way better than that rating..slapshot to 18 skating to 19...come on" It is a never ending, never possible to be accurate project. So it is not going to happen here.
Especially after we gave Kevin Bieksa a bump to core or key defenseman status with his attributes because he had a great year last year...
Do you see? The point is .. no matter what attribute changes you do...you will still have to re change, add, and redo every 2 seconds for every player.
Why? because noone not even the top scouts really know how someone is going to do!
My advice..if you want attribute changes--do them for your own games personally, keep track of them so you know what you have done, and keep your original database and the TBL database safe and untouched. Cause if you don't..no challenges for you.
I will now lock this topic, so it does not once again become a debate about Si, a discussion about unfaking etc.
I am pretty sure we have all had enough of that.
Ok changed my mind, I will not lock this topic for now.Mature discussion is allowed. However if the mods feel this is becoming
1. A debate between modified database attributes and the original researchers work...
2. An Si bashing forum (for their original research)
3 A discussion that gets personal
We will shut it down.

I agree with b-diddy.
The chances are very slim that there will EVER be an attribute update released by TBL. All the reasons batdad stated...there is no way to do it accurately.

Well i mean for one Ryan Wilson seems ot be a steal and everyone gets him in the 3rd round and such... He wasn't even good enough to be drafted by a NHL in 2 drafts so he would get attributes dropped some how... Jayzin Smith who does the roster updates like attributes and everything for the free ware i will have to ask him how he comes up with the changes and such

You're right, Ryan Wilson should be made worse. He is a good player, I have seen him in real life, and a great offensive d-man who throws the body around. He's not the quickest skater though, and that's why he wasn't drafted. I was surprised when he was not drafted ; Hockey's Future named him as the number 1 surprise player not to be taken in both drafts IIRC.

The reason for Ryan Wilson not being drafted is that he only plays one way - it doesn't really mather that he's great offensively if he can't play defensively. And I must say, from what I saw last season in the OHL, he will most likely become a good NHL defenseman - but then again, I'm not Christer Rockstrom

You're spot on, his defensive play did let him down a lot. I remember watching him when he was at St. Mike's and he scored a top shelf slapshot. My dad commented that he was a good player and the people in front of us turned around and told us it was their son. IIRC he was first star and laid some big hits out there, me and my dad were sure he was going to be a 1st round choice...

Nice! I think that Ryan Wilson is suffering from the same thing as Ric Jackman is... Being a solid offensive presence can take you to the NHL but if you're gonna stay and become a household name, you need the defensive play to fall back on. That's why Ric Jackman haven't gotten the ice-team and recognition yet.
But I think this is perhaps the biggest reason for why attributes shouldn't really be changed. Of course you can make the argument that this IS the reason for why attributes should be changed. You can say that Toews should be better at face-offs. But he haven't really faced any real opposition other than in the Worlds.

Just wondering if anyone here has seen any of these players and could help

Tomas Vincour is a very highly regarded prospect, wasnt he first in the draft, and a year younger than most of the players selected, hes big too for a 16 yr old, hes been ranked 15th for the 2009 draft already, and that looks a strong draft, but i dont know his exact attributes
Working on roster/team updates for EHM 2007...

Not sure if anyone is interested but I have a few friends who ended up going to Australia over past few years to play hockey in the AIHL. It's not a playable league, but having updated rosters and players certainly goes a long way (at least for me) to make things more realistic.
For instance, a lot former OHL/QMJHL/WHL players who are playing in the CIS have ended up in Australia. Like I said, it's not a playable league but I'm almost finished updating the rosters for their 2007 season (they seem to run from April to August on a limited schedule). If anyone's interested, let me know and I can put this together as a possible add-on. Please no crapping on this -- if you don't like it, be polite.
Cheers,
Leeman14
P.S. I'm not stopping with Australia either. There are several countries which have very good, organized leagues which could use updates even if they aren't playable. The players are certainly capable of finding their way to "playable" leagues. I'm working on Armenia at the moment... try not to laugh, one of my best friends played hockey in the Armenian League and if you haven't heard of Harutyun Qeshishyan, he's considered the Sid Crosby of Armenia right now.

The more updated leagues the better
- even if they are playable or not.
What DB are you basing your update on? TBL1.3?
I know that ppl are updating UK on it as we speak, and maybe also Finland as well.
And sorry, but I havnt heard of Harutyun Qeshishyan

Yes, this would be based on the 1.3 update. If UK and Finland are updating, it's not a problem to wait until they are released as both are playable leagues. I just want to provide as much "background" hockey as possible.

Not only UK and Finland, but also AHL, ECHL, Slovenia, Austria... and I'm forgetting some.
If you want it to be included on the TBL Roster Update project, you might want to wait until the final version is out. It's taking longer than expected, but eventually we'll have them all in one package.

No problem, I'll wait until the big patch/update it out.
The ones you're forgetting are UHL/CHL, Finnish Mestis and it looks like a German league... I can't quite tell...

Ah, yes. UHL and CHL were Thunderbug's project. Finnish Mestis was included in "Finland", I'll be doing that. Meanwhile DEL's fate looks a bit uncertain at the moment, because Woody19, who was supposed to update the Germans, hasn't been around for months.

Being an Australian, the only hockey i've ever seen live is obviously in Australia, My hometown team the Adelaide Avalanche played the Newcastle NorthStars

obviously wasn't too skillfull but my first hockey game live, was a good experience.
Apparently the players have to pay for there own plane tickets for the road games

I am in the middle of doing a Edmonton Oil Kings roster file with the great help from EHM Blue Lines updated OHL, WHL roster. The thing i need is i know its a bit of a expansion team but want to make the teams ratings current and just wondering when i am done putting the team together with the editor if someone could test it out for me and see if any attributes need to be changed. I apologize if i have posted this is the wrong area, i thought i would post it here because it has to do with a games addon... Thanks for any help its greatly appreciated..

Your thread is in the right topic, don't worry
Btw, what do you mean by "if any attributes need to be changed"? If it's players attributes you're talkin' about, then your project will probably not be added to the updated rosters file, as TBL doesn't support any attribute changes.
But if you were talking about changing the fame, arena, etc to be exact for the Oil Kings, that's a totally different story

I'm guessing you're putting them into the WHL, which team are you swapping them for? No team has dropped out? If not, what league are they going in?

Unfortunately, no.
Roster update help

I was just creating my own personal roster, and I thought maybe I would share it with the rest of the world. I just wanted to ask some questions first.
1.) Would you guys rather see all the leagues updated or just the NHL?
2.) Would you want me to change all the birthdates of the players so they match up with the draft years in the game?
3.) Would you want me to leave player ratings the same as the default ones, or edit them accordingly?
4.) Would anyone want to contribute to what they think any player rating should be?

Ah, another one. The more the merrier.
1.) Would you guys rather see all the leagues updated or just the NHL?
I play NHL and SM-liiga, but both of them are (will be) updated in the official TBL rosters. But ofcourse the more leagues the better. Then again, more leagues = more work - alot more.
2.) Would you want me to change all the birthdates of the players so they match up with the draft years in the game?
I prefer to see the player pics, and to have correct birthdates.
3.) Would you want me to leave player ratings the same as the default ones, or edit them accordingly?
Some of the obvious ones may be altered in my opinion. But you should be careful editing attributes, as this will most likely create alot of disagreement, especially if you plan to edit more than just the "obvious".
4.) Would anyone want to contribute to what they think any player rating should be?
I'm sure many will. I personally have other projects to deal with.
