Thank you for making that crystal clear, now I think of it, I may have read that here before somewhere, not sure though.

After reading this thread and using the great tips it has provided, (thanks for that btw) I have done some more comprehensive scouting, the truth is that the 07' draft isn't quite as bad as some have made it out to be, it's still not that great either, drafting is not a total crapshoot if you know what to look for, I'm mostly scouting US nationality players though, so I may have missed a few, from what I can tell there are maybe a handful of players worth taking in the later rounds, however some of them are quite small at 5'8 or 5'9, if you are going to take a small player though, best to do it later in the draft.

Unfortunately weight and height don't mean anything, a 5'8 enforcer is just as good as a 6'3 etc.

My game is in the 2036-37 season, and I have to say there's a cycle of good / bad players coming to the draft. Ten years ago my youngsters were amazing, now it seems good players are hard to find on the draft. I'm guessing in the 2040's we'll be drafting some really good talent again.

What do you mean by unfortunately height doesn't mean anything, I have heard a few people say they are averse to taking short players, that generally short players don't work out for them.

I dont know about height, but I'm sure that weight plays a huge importance. It's really difficult to get good ratings on a player under 80kg.

I thought I read from somewhere that they are just for the looks, and the game engine doesn't take them in to calculation... Could be wrong tho :dunno:
I've never seen a diffrence.

I'm not sure about that. In the NHL, Martin St-Louis isn't that big and even if he make a season of 95 points, I've never seen him with a rating better than 7.80 or 7.90.

Same with Brian Gionta, Steve Sullivan, Mike Camalleri and other small players.

Derek Roy is 5'9" and does really well. The computer gets him in the 7.50 average rating range most of the time but that's not uncommon. The computer mis-manages a lot of players. I used to trade for him all the time and I always got amazing results from him.

I definitely favor tall and heavy players over the little ones. They are much more able to do the things (fight, hit, block shots) that allow my teams to play so well defensively. The more physical a player is the more his average rating will be higher than what you would expect it to be, especially if that player is a 3rd liner or lower.

For example, who would think that Zach Stortini could have an average rating of almost 8. But he does for me. Because the things he is good at..hitting, fighting, being a jerk...allow his ratings to be higher with even just 1 or 2 minutes of ice time per game. Same for guys like Mair...they do much better ratings wise than smaller less physical defensive guys like Betts, Ortmeyer. Because the "meanness" allows them to rate higher.

Although...I have never set Betts or Ortmeyer to berserk and encouraged. Maybe I should try that. :-D

I just read on another forum that the game not only put's regens in future drafts, but that it also will randomly generate players from different non hockey nations, is this true, cause I thought it was all regens? If so, how does this happen?

No. All are regens. The players that regen to non hockey countries are players that were originally made in the db from that country. Just regens. One example is Olaf Kolzig. He is listed as German/South African. But he always regens as a German.

I'm not saying what you said is wrong, I'm just going to elaborate more on what I read.

Someone said that in the 2025 draft there are good players from Egypt and New Zealand, I don't know about you, but I don't know of any recent players with those nationalities, maybe one has NZ, but it has slipped past me, certainly not Egypt though, if there aren't any players with those origins, how is this possible?

i think there's a player but all his attributes are marked as zero in the database so game picks random attributes for these guys don't know why in 2025 thou.

In 2013 in my game, I saw a Ukrainian regen and a Lativan regen eligible for the draft. The weird thing is that both went through the US youth hockey systems and they're not dual citizens. Has anyone else seen this?

There is just 1 player in the 25' draft like this or a few?

And just to clarify are they regens or not?

in my upcoming 27' entry draft there's numerous new zealanders greeks turks etc. not too good thou so no rankings but i can draft them if i want to.
Yes i think they are regens but everything is picked random so only thing in common with their first gen. is their stick side and first nationality

But that Spanish guy's 1st gen wasn't good right, so it was a total fluke that he's good now?

my guy's PA is 150 so i think he's 1st gen isn't near that good and i haven't found a matching player from my database so he's a fluke.

There seems to be one anomaly that pops up in people's games. A (generally speaking) talented 6'4" left hand shot C/RW that comes up around 2024-28 (stock database). He seems to come from a random country. I've seen people speculate that the player is a regen of Dainus Zubrus... since Zubrus comes from a non-traditional hockey country, the regen somehow gets assigned a random country.

I've found a lot of good players in the second round. In one of my games I have two rookies tearing it up one was taken 30th overall (yeah still first round) he was ranked the #2 prospect in the NHL. The other was taken 53rd overall, they both have over a point per game. Another player on the same team was taken in the 4th round as an overager he has real good offensive attributes, filling in for injury he has 9 points in 8 games, plus he has over a point per game in the AHL.

I once found Michal Repik (his name :-?) in 7th round with two scouts saying 2nd line potential and head scout saying 3rd line potential, traded his rights for Van Ryn (note that I had someone else in there too) he played 3 seasons in NHL with 20-40 points and is playing in Znojmo at year 2017. :D

I thought he would be good... ](*,) :)
