I don't think you're allowed to restart under

Briere went to the Islanders in my game...
What are you guys doing with the defensemen? I started out sitting Clark, but Galiardi was so bad I'm now going with 11 forwards and 7 D.

Hmm. I found that I didn't like the way Quincey was playing. What did everyone do with O'Reilly?

I have O'Reilly on second line with Wolski and Svatos... he has 24 points in 26 games (3g, 21a). He also plays on the 1st pk.

As what? You're one assistant coach signing? Or as an Assistant GM so that you can hire him as a coach in season 2?
alexob18 wrote:In a previous playthrough, I had great success with Durno. Willsie is playing stellar too. I've had him hit 69 pts in the 2.1 before.
I've got Durno on my roster. He was the 4th line center but then I sent O'Reilly back to junior and Durno got bumped up to the 3rd line. I didn't call up Willsie though. I'm beginning to think I should though. I gave Haydar a shot and he hasn't been any good. I see you've also got Stewart in your lineup. I decided to send him to the AHL. He really need to play more than I had ice time to give him.

and my biggest challenge i think will to get lines 2-4 to score goals the offensive depth is non-existant for the Avs

Glad to see another person joining in on the challenges!

If i sign a couple of the european prospects, but they dont turn up until the next season does that infringe on any quoatas?
Others have already answered your question but I wanted to point out that any questions about rules and such, should go in the Questions and Feedback thread that I linked to in the Challenge Announcement.
OUCH!

That's a big loss.
CatchUp wrote:eric1985 wrote:Thats wierd... There was no vacancies for me...
You are allowed to fire one head coach and two scouts in the first season...so you could fire one of your coaches and hire someone new.
You mean you're allowed to fire one assistant coach. You can fire your head coach at any time but you're only allowed to hire his replacement from within... and that person must have been with you for 6 months already.
I hire Doug Jarvis as an assistant coach. He's got some good attributes (15 ADA, 18 DET, 15 DIC, 14 MAN, 18 MOT, 14 YNG, 10 GOA, 16 DEF, 16 FOR, 20 JPA, 12 JPP, and 14 TAC) but I just wish he had a Technique-based coaching style. He might not be the best suited towards stepping up to be my head coach though (I'd want a higher Tactics attribute), so I had a backup plan. I dropped Craig Billington as my Assistant GM and signed Bobby Carpenter as my AGM.

As for Duchene and O'Reilly. I intend to give them both a chance with the Avs. Duchene on the 2nd line, and on 2nd PP, and O'Reilly on a defensive 4th line and on first PK. Havent played any games yet, so I'll just wait and see how it goes...
That's the way I approached it to. I gave both a shot. Duchene has been my 2nd line C and 2nd PP center since training camp. O'Reilly I had as my 3rd line center and on the 1st PK. O'Reilly didn't last though. His morale was dropping because he had too many games with a 6 rating. I didn't want to ruin his development. So I figured I'd send him back to junior for a season and let him get better. Then I can try him out again in season 2. I don't regret keeping Duchene up though. He's got 14 points in 13 games so far and an 8.00 average rating.

oh, did everyone else get 29th/30th for both teams in the Season Preview?
just saw - Looch as a top 10 LW - he's good, but talk about some man-crush! LOL... and Kessel is the top prospect in the league... interesting draw

I can't remember what my AHL team got ranked in the Season Preview but the Avs were ranked 29th for me. The funny thing is, Lake Erie is tearing it up. In 11 games they've only got 1 regulation loss. The odd thing is they've only got 5 wins. They've got problems winning in OT or Shootouts though. They've got 5 OT/SOLs.
I also saw Looch listed as a Top 10 LW and among the Top Prospects as well. That's crazy but cool.
alexob18 wrote:Hmm. I found that I didn't like the way Quincey was playing. What did everyone do with O'Reilly?
Quincey has been one of my best defensemen. I've sat Salei.

Good point! My only guess is that maybe they've got really fast computers. I know it takes me a lot longer to play and I've got the game open almost the whole day at work.

There were a lot of posts since I last logged on that I wanted to reply to. I figured one big post rather than 10 individual posts was a better way to go. It's not like I need to drive up my post count.

For the record, I didn't restart.
Off to a decent start at 1-1-1 (a shootout loss to Dallas to open the season). Duchene has gotten off to a fast start, with four goals and six points in the first three games. I kept O'Reilly as well, but he probably won't stick with the big club.
So far, one of my team's strengths has been the penalty kill, which sits at 92.3% - a stat unheard of for one of my teams. It's still early, by 12 out of 13 kills ain't too bad. On the flipside, however, I've already given up 2 shorties.

Is it just me or is anyone else seeing Jonathan Quick looking like a superstar in their game? 19 Blocker and 18 Glove? Plus 18's in Positioning, Rebound Control and Recovery? YOWZA!

I my he is 18 Blocker and 17 Glove and 17's in Positioning, Rebound Control and Recovery. So he's really looking good. Also Steve Mason is a little monster: 17's in Blocker, Glove, Positioning, Rebound Control, Recovery and Reflexes he also got 17 Agility and 18 Stamina.

I'm home for a week sick so I got nothin better to do, Duchene has worked out great for me, almost a PPG player on second line. O'Reilly was up for 8 games but wasn't producing anything so I sent him down to tear up the OHL.

I got 10 games in last night and went 6-4. Both goalies are playing awesome and I'm getting lots of scoring from unexpected sources. Willsie, McLeod and Durno. Crazy. I'm still kinda half hoping I tank so I get a decent pick....that I can use on a stud D man - that is what the team is lacking in the worst way.
Other notes, Thomas went from Beantown to ATL on waivers where he is the starter over Lehtonen. Dallas traded for Neidermayer - a 2nd and a 3rd rnd pick went back to the Ducks.
Oh...and Tucker SUCKS!

My lines are a secret.
Actually no they aren't but I kept both kids with the team.
I am playing Quincey on the left wing, second line. He is playing at a 7.52 clip.
O'Reilly isn't playing at a great rating, but he is effective as a 3rd line center, and pk'er.
O'Reilly may end up being a Selke candidate in the sim and in real life.

Yep.
He is in a left wing practice as well.
His ratings are more, winger friendly in my opinion.

Yeah, I guess they are. Still, he makes a pretty good offensive defenseman. He's been doing pretty well for me in that role. Still, I'm curious to find out if Quincey ever picks up the LW for you under his positions.

He really is playing great.

Scratch that - 10-0-3. Quincey just potted an empty netter to clinch the win over the Blues. McLeod had a stellar game, 2 pts along with Willsie.

I don't know how some of you guys are getting results out of Willsie and McLeod.
So I've logged my first 20 games. I went .500 for that stretch. That was good enough for 7th in the Western Conference. I really need to get my PP working. It's only firing at 15%.
Posted: Thu Nov 19, 2009 8:40 pm

You were doing better than me in PP, I was at 14.8%.

Better by a hair but still pretty bad.
What's your PK looking like? Mine is at 86.2% right now.
