First season start: some issues not in the guide

Hey all,

first of all I'd like to say that I'm totally crazy about this game but I struggle in pre-season and it spoils a lot gamefun for me.

I hate it when I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, and you must know that when I come to training camp I allready have between 6 and 9 hours playing time behind me in my save.

I play NHL but I always start in august, so I have time to set up a scouting program and find the coaches that i need as written in the guide, but I have a problem.

The NHL suitable players from my farm team (most of the time 3-4 players) are called up to the NHL team as I don't want te AI handle the trainig for those talents because as a FM-pro I know that the AI isn't reliable enough when you can handle all that stuff for yourself.

So I always have 24-28 players in my first team from day 1 and I train them at least a month and a half on general training with coaches set like the guide (ehm2007) had told me to do.

But are that too many players? Do I keep general on 60% and PP/PK on 20% or do I have to adjust these to 60/10/10 and 20 is rest then I guess or do I have to put it on 100/0/0... That's something that's not clear to me.

Also training camp is a dissaster, I always end up with 2-3 players injured, even when i have 40-45 players in only two TC teams. Do the other teams a training camp also because they have always scheduled games then and that makes it complicated.

So, can someone please help me out, because I'm a little bit a freak and I want to start off without doing something wrong :-)

Thanks a lot, I play with the EHM rosters from this forum and had the same problem with Tampa, Pitt, Florida and the Flyers.

I would not worry about player development from your farm team although it doesn't hurt to have them with you in the off season until you have a limit on your rosters.

The 60/20/20 is the default training for gameplay situations. It has nothing to do with resting, you want the total to be at 100%. You would adjust the percents depending on what situations your team is struggling in. If your Power play is not scoring good, then 50/30/20 can be set up, etc ...

Finally, injuries are part of hockey since it is a physical sport. Having 2-3 players injured is normal.

Welcome McRubbish!

That practice thread is an absolute godsend! I spent a good hour or so reading through that and digesting the information, trying things out etc where I now have a really sound system for off-season, pre-season, regular season and playoffs for all players on my roster. I encourage you to read it page 1 through 15. Don't worry about the date of the info; it's all still highly relevant (particularly the latter stuff on EHM 2007).

On the focus % - I never really adjusted for that in the past and just left it where it was. Don't be scared to scale back your general % and focus solely on the PP, for example. I was up to 60% on PP and my word was my PP outstanding!
