EHM The Blue Line

Hey everybody,
I'm a bit of a noob to EHM, just got it when the EA version came out because I've heard such good things about the game. Anyways, I am the GM of the Ottawa Senators (a bit odd considering my username I know, I just selected a team randomly), and I am in my second season (15-16). I acquired Matt Nieto last year in a trade including Milan Michalek. I am in December of 2015, and my team is currently top of the league. Nieto leads my team in points, has good morale, and lists the Senators as his favorite team, and Bobby Ryan as his good friend. The problem is, I want to resign him since his contract expires after this year, but it says he is not interested in resigning. Now here is where my question comes. Is this because he doesn't want to resign at all, or just because I have to wait until a later date to resign him because he wants to focus on the season, and not contract negotiations??

From my own experience players that doesn't want to re-sign may eventually change during the season. I've also had players wanting to negotiate a new deal after season had ended, before the contract run out. Unfortently I've had a few players I had to let go into free agency and then try to re-sign them from there. A bigger risk since other teams may be interested as well. In this case I think it's a situation similar to mine at Florida with Huberdeau. He never wanted to negotiate but after the season ended he was "unhappy", in his info screen it said he wanted to negotiate a new deal.

Offer him a contract anyway. Quite often they will re-sign even if they say they don't want to.

Yeah what Cee Bee said. May have to pay a bit extra. Sometimes if near end of season and UFA ... I will raise the offer that is sitting there even though says won't negotiate one level (just click on up arrow once) for each year.....then they almost always sign. If they are important players...I will give em a $25-100 k over ask raise. I have gone as high as $500K over though with one player way back when. Gilbert Brule. LOL

Problem is, I don't know how much to offer. The current numbers sitting there are the max numbers board will allow (something ridiculous like $17,525,000 Canadian). I guess I'll just wait until the end of the year. Thanks for all the feedback and help though!
