Is There an Emergency Recall or Conditioning Assignment?

Is there an emergency recall from AHL to NHL where a player doesn't have to go through waivers or a conditioning assignment in the game (ie: Bernier was sent down to AHL on conditioning assignment - didn't have to go through waivers)?
