Noobie question about sending to AHL

I tried to searching everywhere for an answer, but can't seem to find one.
My starting goalie suffered an injury, and I couldn't place him in the backup position. (like I did before we he had a small injury and was just day-to-day). I was forced to call up a goalie from my AHL affiliate. However, now that my starter is back to full strength, I can't send that goalie back down to the AHL. In fact, there are only a small handful of players on my team that I can send down. And unfortunately, I really don't want to send those guys down, because they are doing really well right now. haha.
My problem is, because of this situation, I now have 24 players on my team, and it's game day. I can't continue until I have 23.
Is there a sort of grace period when calling up players before you can send them back down?
(I'm new to this game. I've loved hockey most of my life, but never really looked into how things work in the hockey business. So this is a lot of new stuff for me. haha)

), but once they are no longer eligible, you need to place them on waivers first, then the option to send down will appear. Once the player is on waivers any other team may claim him within 24 hours. And if that happens, you lose the player. But it is the only way.
