Can encouraging a player to fight have a negative impact?

Hi all,

I've never usually been a big fan of getting my players to fight but I have a save with my team, Nottingham Panthers, and I've been bringing through some young players from my affiliated youth teams, trying to give them ice time. One of them has an aggression stat of 14 and strength 17, so I tend to set him to berzerk against certain teams to hopefully give myself an intimidatory advantage.

I've since decided to reduce his aggressiveness due to the fact he's on 5 game misconducts now :\ and I was also thinking that maybe his aggressive style might actually hamper the team at offensive zone face-offs. Could it be pure coincidence that I've started to score less goals recently, or could it be because his penalties interrupt attacking plays on such a regular basis (until he gets thrown out anyway) that we've started to lose our edge a little bit?

If you have him on encouraged then he will look around for fights most of the time and thus getting more penalties(not sure what types you have in EIHL, instigating for the NHL) and subsequent game misconducts. He will probably interrupt your offense by starting needless fights. Check your play-by-play and see in what zone he gets his fights.

Keep him on berzerk but lower him to allowed and you'll probably have less game misconducts but still the occasional fight
