Challenge 6 will be Columbus!

Okay, with the patch out and most people around midway with the Fantasy Draft Challenge I figure it's time to decide on who our first team-based Challenge will be.

Our criteria for a Challenge team is (usually) a team with a lower payroll buget and one that would need a GM's help to make the playoffs "out of the box" so to speak. We don't take on well built/stocked teams because that doesn't provide enough of a test for the badass TBL GMs 8-) I also didn't add any teams we've already done as a Challenge team.

The Yotes, Flames and Isles have full 'spend to the Cap' budgets but the others do have lower budgets that a GM would be required to hold to or get our beloved Salary Penalties.

So let me know what you think. :tiptap: I know that Tom will ahve a hard time deciding between which Southeast team to vote since it's his favortite conference in the whole world :-D

Edit Calv: A major mess up on my part made meant I accidentily clicked on chicago instead of Columbus, and I can't change the poll results ](*,) however we will be going with Columbus as that is what I intended to vote.. sorry about that guys!

I've been tempted to try out the Blackhawks for a while now. Sure, Minty will probably have an advantage over all of us but it should still be fun.

Let's do it for Minty!

I think I'll vote for Chicago as well. They've got some decent prospects and if you can move Khabi's contract you'd be in decent shape.

I went Columbus, I think it will be good to change it up and play a west team. ( I don't remember doing one.)

We've never done a West team and Columbus is my #2 team sooo.... Columbus it is!

We did St. Louis but it was very late in the 2005 cycle and after the NHL playoffs so I think a lot of people were burned out on the game/waiting for the new version at that point.

I thought for sure you'd vote for someone from the Southeast as I know how much you love that Division :-D

Oh yeah, I forgot about the St Louis one.

Didn't you say we would do the Panthers right after that one?

Please don't.... :-(

Everything changes with the new version so that's how I came up with this list, based upon how they are "out of the box" in 007

CBJ.. I just want to trade Carter.

I went for Coyotes as they are probably the hardest team overall of these and I too would want a Western challenge. Second choice would be CBJ, Chicago has such an insane prospect pool that you can just trade out these guys and build a darn good team from the start if you are playing for the short-term win which isn't really the challenge ethos. Plus I always use them for my career game.

I picked Atlanta, but, I would be happy with any of the teams. I am curious, however, what your time frame is to start this one, Minty?

It actually seems that no one wants the Islanders... Or maybe it's just that no one wants DiPietro's deal :D

Why start a new challenge so soon after the fantasy draft one?

I'm about done with my first season, but some people are just starting.

I think we should give this one another week or so before we start challenge 6.

Mainly because people had said they'd be more interested in a Challenge after the patch came out... and, it's out ;)

You can both start two weeks from now and still end up finishing before most normal people ;) so stop squabbling 8-)

For Challenge 6 new entrants can begin as soon as Monday when we decide on the team we'll be using that afternoon. Those of you still in the battle for Challenge can begin the following Monday :-D

ok i have some questions about the challenges because i would love to join in on the fun, but i dont understand everything about it.

-how long does it last. is it like one season??

-how do you keep people from cheating??

-how do you post your records. do you just have to take their word for it or do you have to prove it with a screenshot or something??

- what is the main goal. to get as far as possible?? like if you win the stanley cup you are most likely to win the challenge???

- and most importantly. where do i sign up for it??

Okay... most/all of this is covered if you read through the four threads that are linked at the bottom of the Challenge Info Box. They are basically in order, so it will show you all the steps needed to sign up, setup your team, play within our rules, record your stats correctly, etc. We have developed a recording sheet as well as an Excel database that automatically calculates your stats.

But, to summarize the way the rules are set it very obvious if people are cheating and if we suspect they are we can ask anyone for various screens within the game. The design is to look at Challenges as rebuilding efforts and to focus on it being a three year set; second year Challenges' bonus points are scored differently to additionally reward improvement over your Season 1 team. If people are willing we'd do a third season as well though we haven't yet.

Who's it gonna be Minty?? Do we need a poll-tiebreaker?? :dunno:

Well, I'd planned on closing the poll today at 5pm MintyTime so I guess we'll wait and see for a bit yet 8-)

Wanna join the challenge, so I picked Columbus over Chicago. Been playing with Chicago very much lately, so the change is welcomed.

Welcome to TBL red-dog =D> Always great to have new people join the Challenge, they're a lot of fun. Start checking out the threads linked underneath the Info Box on the Challenge Forum main page if you haven't done so yet to get all the rules/info you'll need to get started

Looks like Columbus but we'll wait until 5 anyway since I posted a deadline may as well stick to it ;)
