Attributes/Practice

Pascal Leclaire of my Blue Jackets is actually getting worse. What kind of a 24 year old hot prospect goalie gets worse? I'm playing him regularly as a back up so I don't get whats up...I have a good goalie coach as well.
My #1 goalie Niittymaki on the other hand has been increasing all of his attributes...
Anyone got a clue behind this?
Another question...What exactly does practicing tactics do for the players?
Thanks

1. With all the development problems being reported about EHM, I would assume it's just a part of that. If not, it may be either you're not working him hard enough, or he is just plain getting worse. I know it sounds like something that shouldn't happen in this case, but I think if a player in the database has a higher current ability than his potential, he'll go down no matter what.
2. Tactics training improves teamwork. It may do other stuff, too, but teamwork is the only change I have ever seen it make.

Sounds like another case of developmentbugitis to me.
I thought the new patch was supposed to fix it but I may be wrong.

The new patch has definitely fixed it. I've got some really strong prospects that were pure dirt before the patch. The thing with young guys is you don't want them to sit and watch. Even if they practice every day, without game experience it gets them nowhere. Having Leclaire as a backup might be what's causing the drop...I personally don't plan to bring my goalie prospects up until they're ready to start. You probably can't waive Leclaire and get him starting in your farm system without giving him up but try playing him as a starter for a little while and see what happens.

It's the only change it has in the attributes.
But, with a bit of logic, it also improves how well the players will play the tactics of the team
Setting it to 'normal' is far enough. Maybe on 'intensive' for players that just came in to the team, but not necessary. Setting it on intensive is, according to me, mainly a lost of time on player devellopement itself.

From what I've seen, prospects develop but regular players do degenerate slightly until the end of the 2008 season. Between the end of 2008 and the middle of the 2009-2010 season, there is noticeable degeneration for most players.
This irritates me to no end. I tested the second beta patch extensively and everything looked great. Then there were almost daily beta patches until the final public release, but I didn't think to check if something had been re-broken.
Players like Ovechkin do not degenerate, but never reach full potential (in one of my games, he's frozen at 189 current ability out of 198). Players who are not signed or playing outside the NHL get real bad real fast. Players inside the NHL get worse but only sightly, at least until 2009-2010.
The devs are aware of the problem. I have posted about this at length in the beta forum.

I would disagree. Teamwork is, in my opinion, the most important skill of all in hockey... and without it, no team will go very far.

Determination is my most important "skill", bar nothing.
However, teamwork is extremely mportant. As B. Stinson said, teams won't go far without players with good teamwork.

This hasn't been a problem for me at all. Sometimes specific attributes drop a little bit...once I had a major drop in several attributes for Alex Tanguay over the off-season but I trained them back to above normal before long. I've found that a good practice regime has prevented the decline of all my players so far. I'm in the 08-09 season, by the way.

B. Stinson & Caseus: Yes, for sure, teamwork is hugely important!
But when you're players do their fitness practice, they work high on agility, stamina, and strength, that's 3 attributes. 3 others for skating practice (acceleration, balance, speed), shooting practice (deflection, slapshot, wristshot), and off.skills (deking, passing, stickhandling). You work 4 attributes on def.skills (checking, hitting, pokecheck, positionning), and 5 with goalies practice (blocker, glove, positionning, rebound control, recovery). But only teamwork with the tactics practice... That's why i never set the tactics practice to 'intensive', as i prefer my player work intensively more attributes.
Only guys who practice it on intensive are my backups and the guys on my first line, as i make them work everything on intensive.
And as teamwork is really important, i always deal or fire guys who have low teamwork and/or low workrate, and bring in guys with at least a decent one.

can you tell me how you find out the players current abillity during your game. i know how to do it before i start a game, but i didnt know you could do it while you are in a game.

i agree. team work is imo one of the most important skills. along with determination and anticipation. speed and acceleration is also very important. i allways have all my players on intensive tactical training. i allways start out poor, but when the teamwork starts to go up so does my win %.

after i changed my training program allmost all my players skills are going up. after the first season with columbus the only player who has gotten worse is balastik. he has lost 1 rating in some of the defensive skills. other then that everything is green and great.

How can you tell or keep track of improvments? All I see is green indicating it went up but not by how mcu. Are you writing it down?

You can't. This is something I've wanted them to add for a while now but they insist they don't want to make it easy for another game to steal the database (all the player attributes). I've been dying to see them add some that might show a gain since the start of training camp or something like that.

Im just finished the 2010-11 season with the Nashville Predators, I have noticed some considerable drops in my older players like Kariya and Arnott, but some older guys like Sullivan and Dumont skills haven't diminished.
On the prospects, I have notice both up and down, but not as drastic either way. Since not all prospects are going to be blue chip future all stars, I would suggest that this would be normal anyways.
Well see what happens this year, I am just in the off season right now, trying to get my team under the boards budget of $40, M I am currently at 42.5 with a few RFA II's to sign including Justin Pogge who had a monster year in the AHL. (1.75 GAA and .927 Save Pct ) and Ryan Parent who will likely get promoted and be one of my top 4 defenseman this year.
