Getting rid of a player with a "No-Trade-Clause"?

Hi.

I've got a problem: I just noticed that I signed Brendan Morrison to a three-year deal, worth 15,6 million, but with a NTC
Now somehow Dany Heatley decided to play for my team, so I have to reduce my salaries to get below the cap, but I can't trade Morrison.

Does anybody know of a way of getting rid of him?
I even thought of placing him on waivers, but should he go unclaimed, I've got a huge salary sitting in the AHL, and I can't even call him up as any team would most probably pcik him up on re-enry, with me being stuck on half his wage. :-?

If you discipline him enough, eventually he will want to be traded and waive his NTC.

You can still put together a deal and have it accepted; just hope he okays the deal once it is made and you could still get value back, if you're above the cap it won't let you go ahead until you clear salary so you should get instant responses.

It's up to the player wanting to be dealth though so if he doesn't want to go I suggest in addition to Tom's discipline suggestion to reduce his player role to "fringe player" or something too and he may be more inclined to go to another team where could have a better role 8-)

Well... you can waive him without demoting him, which is what I'd do if everything else fails -- re-entry waivers are teh suck with high-paid players. But as everyone has said, waiving him should be the last resort.

As Minty said, reducing his role will make him more willing to go away ;) But, Minty, why only to fringe player? The 'this player is not needed' option will have more effect! :D

Fines are the other way to explore. Furthermore, it'll give you some money back from this big salary :D

Ì think I'm too much of a moral GM for this ;) I can't fine a player for nothing, the more so as Morrison has been a really valable player for me the past seasons, so I just want to treat him fairly ... this sounds stupid, right?!

Fining players for no reason will have a negative effect on the whole team's morale

Well, setting him to "This Player is Not Needed" is correct. Unfortunate, but correct :dunno: If not I can give you Pully's number as he did quite the job on Tony Amonte when his contract was going to be up and he Wirtz sent in Puhlford to do his lowballing dirty work and inform Tony that he wasn't worth a fraction of what he deserved so he should sacrifice in order remain a member of the Blackhawk Familyâ„¢.

Another way to get rid of him is to propose a trade with the Canucks, which is Brendan Morrison's favourite team. If the Canucks accepts he would most likely waive his NTC and move... I have pulled it off several times with both Mats Sundin (who played with Wild after a Fantasy Draft) and with Brad Richards who had a NTC in his contract when I took control over the Rangers who had signed him as a UFA a year before.

This way you don't risk to upset any of your players who might like Morrison or thinks that you are being unfair when you for example discipline him for no good reason.

Eventually, I set his status to "not needed" and traded him to the Rangers without any problems.
Dany Heatley isn't on my team anymore, either: after racking up 62 points last season whilst I payed him 6,25 Mio I offloaded him to - guess who - the Rangers :-D I got Petr Prucha, a first and a third round pick in exchange, which is okay for me ;)

62 points! Thats poor. My Rangers team had 5 players above 100 points last season. I think they were... Jagr, St Louis, Drury, Prucha, Neidermeyer (Scott). I know, brilliant line-up!
