"Retiring at the end of the season" in late June/early July

Hi all
Quick question regarding a confusing set of elements I recently encountered:

In my current game, Brent Burns has decided to retire "at the end of the season". The news came in June, after playoffs and Draft.

I thought he'd be off the roster in July, but he isn't and now I'm confused : will he retire before october or in one year ?

I noticed in the "Pro experience" space under player's "information" tab that he has "15 seasons accrued, no games accrued this season" (as of July 5th).

I reckon he'll play the upcoming full season and then retire ? Or should I look for defensive depth really quickly ?

Alrighty, it seems it's a "it can happen anytime during offseason" event.

Brent Burns retired on July 29th (more or less 40 days after he announced his decision).

Might be a late response Ukko, but like you, I have noticed that once a players announces they will retire it will happen randomly. I wish the game had any retired player just retire on July 1st, rather than playing a waiting game in the offseason
